Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Outside Her Building, Kissing Her

She never dared to cry out loud.

Her emotions just got a little out of control, and tears streamed down.

She sniffled quietly, then forcefully wiped her face.

The circuit breaker was pulled down; when Hailey Jenkins left, she pushed it back up.

The room instantly lit up again. Yelena Hughes needed to tidy up the place, so she stood up to get a broom.

Just as she turned around, she saw Jasper Yale standing behind her, startling her heart to her throat. She widened her eyes at him, "You... you didn’t leave?"

"Where would I go? Dinner’s only halfway through."

Yelena Hughes walked to the kitchen door and glanced around; shards of glass were scattered everywhere.

"Why do these people keep bothering you?"

Yelena Hughes confessed honestly, "I don’t know."

"Who are you kidding?"

"It could be someone involved in the gutter oil incident that my dad reported on. He also covered cases of corner-cutting in construction sites and so on. I can’t be sure who it is."

She was really too calm, just like she was able to find the flashlight in the first instance earlier, "Does this happen often?"

"Sort of. They don’t escalate things, just cause minor disturbances. I’ve called the police a few times, but they come back next time."

The corners of Yelena Hughes’ eyes were still a bit red.

Jasper Yale felt an indescribable mix of emotions, "Since your dad’s like this, you could easily change jobs."

"I did nothing wrong, I’m not changing."

Why is her mouth so stubborn?

Yelena Hughes glanced at the dishes on the table. Actually, they had just started eating, but the chicken leg in the soup had been taken by the man.

Yelena Hughes looked at Jasper Yale, "My mom worked all day; can you... sit down and continue eating?"

Jasper Yale shook his head, recalling the man’s gross eating manner.

Yelena Hughes took the bowl of chicken soup to the kitchen, and when she returned, she wiped the table a bit. "Even if you don’t eat, can you just sit down and pretend a bit?"

Jasper Yale met her gaze; there was pleading in her eyes. After just facing intimidation, she still had to care for her family’s feelings.

Does she even have time to comfort herself?

Jasper Yale said nothing, but he already sat down in his previous seat.

Seeing this, Yelena Hughes hurried back to her room, seeing Lindsay Walsh still holding Anne Hughes’ ears tightly. "Mom, those people have left; it’s time for dinner."

"This... they left just like that?"

"Yes, hurry and come out."

Lindsay Walsh let go of her hands, "Where’s Yale?"

"He didn’t leave; after all, dinner was only halfway through." Yelena Hughes saw a smile appear on Lindsay Walsh’s face. She pulled Anne Hughes’ hand, "Come on, let’s go have dinner."

At the table, Lindsay Walsh was quite uneasy, "Yale, sorry you’ve encountered this on your first visit."

"It’s okay." Jasper Yale added, "You cook really well."

"Really? You like it?" Lindsay Walsh hurriedly told him to eat more.

But Jasper Yale was unwilling to use his chopsticks, "I’m full." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"You didn’t eat much just now."

Yelena Hughes quickly served Lindsay Walsh a dish, "Mom, he doesn’t eat much at night; he’s dieting."

"Dieting, really?" Lindsay Walsh looked at Jasper Yale twice, noticing his slender waist.

Anne Hughes’s face was still pale, as if she hadn’t recovered; Yelena Hughes looked at her worriedly, "Anne, are you okay?"

Anne Hughes just felt those people’s words were too nasty.

"Sis, am I really a doomed ghost?"

"What nonsense is this!" Yelena Hughes spoke with a slightly heavier tone, but her demeanor remained gentle, "Anne, don’t take those scumbags’ words to heart."

"Alright." Anne Hughes remembered that Jasper Yale was still around; even though she was uncomfortable, she didn’t want to affect others.

She quickly changed the topic, "Mom, your pig’s knuckle is delicious, just like the one sis brought back last time."

"I have no such skill; that’s from a big restaurant."

Anne Hughes smiled brightly, her eyes curving like little crescents, "Sis, if there’s a chance next time, can you pack Serena Snow for me? It’s really good."

"Okay." Yelena Hughes agreed.

What they were talking about were probably those leftovers from last time?

Things that almost got thrown into the trash, yet they still remember them now.

After dinner, Yelena Hughes wanted to clean the kitchen, but Lindsay Walsh pushed her back into the living room. "Keep Yale company."

The room was extremely cold, and there wasn’t even an air conditioner in the living room.

Jasper Yale wore little, and the cold crept up his thin pants legs.

Yelena Hughes walked to his side. "Do you want to go back?"

"Yes." He really didn’t want to stay here; it was terribly cold.

Yelena Hughes quickly went to the kitchen and said to Lindsay Walsh, "Mom, he needs to leave; I’ll see him off."

"Okay." The house was a mess, so she didn’t insist on keeping him.

Going downstairs, Yelena Hughes walked ahead; Jasper Yale watched her light steps—is that how quickly she moved past earlier events?

"Why aren’t you crying anymore?"

Yelena Hughes halted and looked defiant, "Who cried?"

"The dog cried."

No, why does he enjoy insulting people like this?

Yelena Hughes gazed at him, unsure what came to mind, and her lips curled up. "Young master, are those people blind, calling you a pretty boy? Your face isn’t even white."

Jasper Yale’s face fell and exuded a chilling vibe.

Yelena Hughes couldn’t hide her laughter, "Which wealthy woman can afford you? Charging by the hour; they probably can’t afford you."

She dared to jest like this but quickly held her tongue, "It’s so cold, let’s hurry."

Yelena Hughes reached the bottom of the building, coincidentally bumping into a neighbor.

She greeted sweetly, "Hello Aunt Sutton."

"Oh, is this your boyfriend? Such a distinguished gentleman!" Aunt Sutton had sharp eyes and immediately noticed Jasper Yale behind her.

"No," Yelena Hughes hurriedly explained, "He’s my... colleague."

"A colleague you bring home?"

"No, he came to pick up something; he’s leaving soon."

Jasper Yale watched her eagerly explaining, as Aunt Sutton didn’t seem to take it in, her eyes still darting around him as she headed upstairs.

Yelena Hughes wanted to quickly see off this revered guest, and as soon as she stepped out of the apartment building, she hastened towards his car.

But Jasper Yale moved leisurely, still calling her name.

"Yelena Hughes."

She turned to look at him.

Jasper Yale stood firm in front of her—avoiding being seen?

His hand clasped Yelena Hughes’ chin, his fingers icy, making her shiver.

Jasper Yale lifted her chin higher, then higher, as she watched his face close in.

Yelena Hughes reached out to push, but her wrist was tightly gripped by Jasper Yale.

Her arm was bent behind her, and at the same time, her lips were bitten by him.
