Chapter 26: Chapter 26: I Was With Him a Year Ago

Yelena Hughes has been visibly happy these days, so much so that even Dean Holloway couldn’t help teasing her.

"Women who’ve been pampered by a man really are different, your little face is all flushed."

"What nonsense, I’m happy because Felix Wood has been taken in," Yelena Hughes said, looking at her paycheck. Her sister’s illness is now stabilized, and the medical expenses can save her quite a bit.

Her income is enough to support the whole family. "Dean, let me treat you to dinner."

"Sure, in return, I have a gift for you," Dean said, pulling a shoebox from under the table. "Just ordered it online, one pair each for you and me."

Yelena Hughes took it, opened the lid, and saw a pair of pointed high heels inside, the heels were about eight or nine centimeters high.

"Does yours look like this too?"

"Yeah, I wear them at home, sexy or not?"

Dean Holloway had bought them according to her size, knowing that Yelena Hughes was so frugal on herself to save money for Anne’s treatment.

"Thank you, Dean."

"Dress up a bit when you interview people in the future."

Yelena felt warmth in her heart, nodded, "Okay."

She was truly happy, really, she felt all her hardships had passed. One cannot live in darkness forever; there will always be a day towards the sunlight.

The medicine Jasper Yale gave her was enough to last until next month.

Yelena Hughes lived steadily day by day, just hoping that the medicine would come to the market soon.

Recently, the temperature in Southcross City dropped drastically, Yelena even pulled out her coat. After interviewing a newly emerged writer and having a meal together, Yelena planned to return to the office to write her article.

As she walked to the door, just about to step out, she almost collided with a man coming in.

Justin Sutton was no longer in a wheelchair, but his right leg was tiptoeing, supported by a crutch.

Yelena quickly lowered her head, about to walk past, but Justin stopped her. "Long time no see."

"Yeah," she glanced at his leg, "almost recovered, right?"

Justin Sutton held Yelena’s arm, "Have a meal with me."

"No need, I’ve already eaten."

"Yelena, even after breaking up, we can still be friends, don’t you want to see me anymore?" Justin knew she seemed gentle, but was quite difficult to talk to. When she refused to go along, even wearing out one’s tongue was useless.

"If you don’t agree, I’ll spill all your dirty little secrets."

He wrapped an arm around Yelena’s shoulder, placing his weight on her as they walked.

"Go ahead if you want, I’m just a small fry, not afraid of losing face."

"Then let the rumors reach your sister’s ears, that her life-sustaining medicine was... obtained by her sister."

Why hadn’t Yelena noticed how despicable Justin was before?

She was dragged into a room, decorated in a pure Japanese style. Yelena struggled free from under his arm. "Justin, can’t we part on good terms?"

"You sure were quick to part with me, sorry, I can’t do that."

Yelena didn’t know the room had poor soundproofing, nor did she know this was a trap set by Justin for her.

At this moment, there were two more people in the adjacent room.

Justin really couldn’t let her go, never having gotten her, the unwillingness was agonizing. "Did you ever think about my feelings when you slept with Jasper?"

Nancy Alden dropped a piece of salmon onto the table, her gaze slowly moved to Jasper Yale’s face.

The man, like a deep pool with no visible bottom, showed no ripples. His nature was cold, as if the person Justin mentioned wasn’t him.

Yelena’s tone was firm too, "Why should I care about your feelings?"

This was an admission they had slept together.

Nancy had always suspected but wanted to deceive herself.

"Just because of a few boxes of medicine, you offered yourself up to play with, is that right?" Justin forced Yelena against his crutch.

Yelena’s gaze towards him showed disappointment, but more than that, relief.

"Don’t dwell on it, you have a good background and conditions, you’ll find someone better in the future."

Yelena wanted to leave, but Justin blocked her, giving her no way out. He suddenly gave a meaningful smile. "Then tell me, who’s better, me or Jasper, who pleases you more?"

The words were extremely insulting.

But between Yelena and Justin, it’s clean, he himself should know that, shouldn’t he?

She opened her mouth, yet before she could speak, Justin forced himself upon her.

His voice was light, landing on Yelena’s face, "Now I also want to taste you, may I?"

Yelena pushed him hard, swallowing back the words she was about to say.

"I told you long ago, there’s no good in coveting Young Master Yale, he has Nancy Alden, what are you to him?"

In the next room, Jasper picked another piece of salmon and placed it near Nancy Alden’s hand. Her eyes filled with tears, and her chopsticks trembled.

Seeing this, Jasper wanted to take her away.

But how could Nancy walk away halfway through hearing this? She held onto Jasper’s hand.

Yelena really didn’t want to entangle with Justin, maybe, after knowing how terrible she was, he would let go.

"Justin, not only have I slept with Young Master Yale now, but a year ago I also sought him out, we had a night together. Don’t have any more thoughts about me."

Justin was too shocked to speak. When he was chasing her, he couldn’t even touch her, let alone sleeping together.

What now? "Yelena Hughes!"

Yelena felt that revealing such scars should be done in one go; don’t be afraid of the bloody wounds.

"Young Master Yale’s skills are quite good. Sleeping with him, I don’t lose, I’m very satisfied."

Justin gave her shoulder a hard shove, causing her to crash against the side door. The doors were pushed ajar, and she found herself staring at Jasper Yale’s silhouette.

Yelena straightened up, looking into Justin’s eyes like dying embers.

Justin felt a pang of pain in his heart, a light sobbing sound came from the adjacent room. Nancy Alden choked, the food in her mouth still not swallowed.

Jasper handed her a tissue, "Spit it out first."

She swallowed it in one go, forcing a smile, "Jasper, is everything she said true?"

Yelena’s fingers pinched the hem of her pants, like a sinner. Jasper’s face was expressionless, but that only made it all the more terrifying.

He protected Nancy so well, cherished her so much, not allowing any rumors to reach her ears.

But now?

In Jasper’s eyes, there seemed to be waves, "Sleeping together means nothing more than fulfilling a physical need."

In other words, it was just like being hungry and wanting to eat when he had a reaction with Yelena.

Justin stood by, laughing harshly.

He dragged Yelena to the adjacent room.

Nancy’s gaze landed on her feet.

She sneered, "Miss Hughes, do you like imitating me? Or are you unwilling to just be a bed partner and want to replace me?"

"I didn’t mean that."

Nancy struggled, using her hands to support herself backward. Her legs slowly came into view, and Yelena saw that Nancy was wearing a pair of high heels identical to hers.

"You want to wear my clothes, you like my shoes, and you even want to take Jasper."

Jasper glanced at Yelena’s feet. "Take them off."
