Chapter 145: 145: Ah Fang gets into a fight, Jiang Zhi covers for him (first update)
Having said that, he got up and ran desperately forward without looking back.
Zhou Xufang spread her hands and looked at the piece of paper; there was blood on it and also on her sleeve.
0893 was injured.
“They’re ahead.”
“Hurry up!”
Zhou Xufang cocked her ear and listened; the messy footsteps were getting closer.
...
Were these people chasing after 0893? She stood in the middle of the alley.
About a dozen people came running in a swarm, completely disregarding her standing in the middle of the road, and charged over, bumping her against the wall.
They bumped into her.
Zhou Xufang patted her shoulder, “Hey.”
The man running at the front turned his head, his face gaunt and menacing.
Zhou Xufang stepped in front to block the way, her expression downcast like a cold and detached vagrant, and she said, “You bumped into me.”
The leader, in a leather jacket with pierced ears and dyed yellow hair, tattoos from his neck to his ears, was very impatient, “Move or die!”
Zhou Xufang didn’t move, her pretty little face under the oversized hoodie serious and stiff as she repeated, “You bumped into me.”
The man, looking fierce, pushed her, “Get lost!”
But she didn’t budge.
She stood firm, her expression even more serious, “Not only did you bump me, but you pushed me too.”
The man rubbed his hands in frustration, sneered, and pointed to a few of his men, “You guys.” He made a gesture with his eyes, signaling them to chase after the person first, then turned back to Zhou Xufang and whistled, his face mean and sleazy, “So, little girl, what do you want?”
Zhou Xufang glanced at the men running off to chase and said, “I’m going to hit you now.”
She said it earnestly, her small face serious, not joking at all. Yet the man laughed loudly, looking at her as if she were a joke. After he finished laughing, he picked up a discarded table leg from the alley and weighed it in his hand.
“Just don’t cry.”
With that, his expression suddenly turned violent as he raised the wooden stick and chopped towards Zhou Xufang’s face.
He thought he could scare the girl into crying…
But she stood there motionless, easily catching the table leg with her hand. The man’s eyes bulged in shock, and he immediately tried to yank it away.
But he couldn’t.
“You—”
Zhou Xufang kicked the man in the calf, and he howled, jumping up with his leg in his arms, his face red with pain. Just as he was about to swear at her, he saw the slim and seemingly weak girl casually throw the table leg, accurately hitting and knocking down one of the men who were off chasing someone.
She said, “You all owe me an apology before you can leave.”
The men who had gone off chasing looked at each other and then turned back, surrounding Zhou Xufang.
When Jiang Zhi arrived, the stall was there, but not the person. He looked around and couldn’t find Zhou Xufang, his calls going through only after the third attempt.
“Xu Fang, where are you?”
Zhou Xufang said, “I’m at the police station.”
When Jiang Zhi heard ‘police station,’ he got anxious, “What happened?”
She whispered into the phone, “I hit someone.”
Hit someone?
As long as she wasn’t the one being hit, it was fine.
Jiang Zhi asked, “Was it caught on the surveillance camera?”
Zhou Xufang thought for a moment, “No.”
That made things easier.
“Don’t admit to it.” He collected her stall, put it in the trunk, got into the driver’s seat, and floored the accelerator, speeding off, “Wait for me, I’ll be right there.”
“Okay.”
Zhou Xufang hung up the phone and obediently waited.
That man—the one with yellow hair and ear piercings, the gaunt and fierce-looking one, called Hua Jun, the leader of the group—was still cursing, “How many times do I have to say it, she hit first!”
Zhou Xufang turned her head, “It wasn’t me.”
Hua Jun spat in disgust, kicked over a chair in anger, and stood up to confront Zhou Xufang, pointing at his own face, “Then who hit this?”
Zhou Xufang looked straight at the police officer, “I don’t know.”
Hua Jun and his group of bruised underlings were furious, rolling up their sleeves and rushing forward, “You motherf—”
Zhang Wen banged his baton on the table, shouting, “What do you think this place is? Keep yelling and see what happens!” He nodded at Zhou Xufang, “Go on, you tell us.”
Zhou Xufang stated it clearly, with a proper demeanor.
“They bumped into me.”
Then, “They didn’t apologize, and they pushed me.”
She went on seriously, “I asked them to apologize, and they tried to hit me.”
She wasn’t lying; all of this was true.
Then she hit them. She didn’t go hard, just a casual hit.
The rest is omitted.
In the end, “Someone who saw something wrong reported it to the police.” Zhou Xufang said with a serious expression, like a good student sitting in the first row of the class, “That’s how things happened.”
Hua Jun and his crew rolled their eyes so hard upon hearing this that you’d think their eyes would pop out, all the while they were wincing in pain and cursing loudly, “Bullshit!”
Zhou Xufang leaned toward the police officer.

Look how scared they got! Zhang Wen knocked his baton again, “Be quiet!” After shouting, he asked the young lady in a softer tone, “Did you hit them?”
Zhou Xufang lowered her head, “I did not.” She wasn’t very good at lying, and her eyelashes would flutter whenever she did.
Hua Jun couldn’t hold back his laughter, rolled up his sleeve, and showed his arm bruised with violet spots, “If you didn’t hit us, then where did these injuries come from?”
She looked up, first bewildered, then delighted, “Jiang Zhi!”
Jiang Zhi pushed the door open, and behind him was a sky full of stars and neon lights.
He had arrived in a hurry, with his hair tousled by the wind, having just come from a premiere, still dressed in formal attire, with a black tie and suit, and an overcoat of the same color.
The very picture of an elegant nobleman, with his misty blue short hair, which gave him an extra touch of unruliness and flamboyance on top of his already exquisitely beautiful features, making him look like he had stepped out of a painting.
Tsk tsk tsk, the beauty of Imperial City truly lived up to his name.
Zhang Wen had seen Jiang Zhi a few times at the Criminal Investigation Team and was aware of his relationship with Zhou Xufang, so he teased, “Mr. Jiang, why have you come?”
“I’ve come to pick up my girlfriend.” He walked over to Zhou Xufang, touched her head, “Are you hurt?”
Zhou Xufang nodded, “Mhm.” She extended her right index finger, which had a pink band-aid on it.
It was from when she was hitting people, and a splinter of wood had poked her.
Jiang Zhi bent down, blew on her finger, coaxed her with a few words, then pulled up a chair to sit down, his peach blossom eyes lifting slightly, “So it was you guys who hit my girlfriend?”
Hua Jun and his battered brothers, “…”
Been a hoodlum for so many years, it was the first time they’d been framed.
One of the guys with a broken arm got so angry his face turned red, “We didn’t even touch her clothes, it was she who hit us!”
Across from them, the blue-haired, handsome young man lifted his eyelids slightly, and the myriad of inky light in those peach blossom eyes suddenly darkened.
He looked up, “Are you still thinking of touching her clothes?”
“…”
When did they ever want to touch her clothes?!
Just as they were about to curse loudly—
The handsome young man lifted his chin, and under the light overhead, all the dim glow gathered in his eyes, “You say my girlfriend hit you, do you have any proof?”
“…”
“A little girl hitting more than ten grown men, and you expect people to believe that?” The beautiful gentleman raised an eyebrow, smiled, and his eyes contained a serpentine allure mixed with a fierce coldness that sent shivers down the spine, “Do you believe it?”
“…”
Damn, a man’s looks can be too damn enticing, yet he seems not to be someone you should mess with…
“Also,” he continued, narrowing his gaze at the table full of ‘items’ found during the body search, “Carring sticks and knives around, were you planning to do something illegal and disorderly?”
“…”
Appearances can be deceiving; this is a wolf in an exquisite skin.
“I think these people need to be thoroughly checked out,” Jiang Zhi turned, looking at Zhang Wen, “What do you think?”
Zhang Wen smiled, “I also think a thorough investigation is needed.” He called over a colleague, “Lock them all up.”
Hua Jun and his beaten up brothers, “…”
Five minutes later, Jiang Zhi took Zhou Xufang out of the police station.
He held her hand as they walked to the car, “Was it you who hit them?”
Zhou Xufang admitted, “Yes.”
He asked again, “Did anyone see you?”
She shook her head, “No, the alley was a blind spot.”
Jiang Zhi opened the car door and let her get in first, then bent down to buckle her seat belt, his movements and voice were gentle, “Then why did you hit them?”
“They seemed to be chasing someone. I deliberately stopped them to let that person get away.” She took out a piece of paper from her pocket and showed it to Jiang Zhi, “This is what that person gave me, asking for my help.”
The note was bloodstained and messily written with a string of numbers.
“He said his name was 0893.”
0893?
That’s a code name.
Jiang Zhi got into the driver’s seat and closed the car door, “I’ll look into this 0893 first.”
Zhou Xufang agreed.
Less than half an hour after they left, Zhang Wen received an emergency call, “Deputy team leader, there’s been a report, a body was found under Ba Yi Bridge.”
Around nine o’clock.
Qiao Nanchu also received a call, from Captain Xiao of the Drug Enforcement Team, with a single sentence, “0893 is dead.”
0893’s wife had just given birth to twins last month.
Qiao Nanchu hung up the phone, went to the balcony, and lit up a cigarette, taking a deep drag, stood there for a while, and then dialed a number on his phone.
“It’s me.”
“It doesn’t matter if you can’t hear me, don’t hang up.”
He stood under the balcony light, finished one cigarette, and then lit another.
