The Broken Halo-Chapter 99: Weaker Than Me
Simon had no idea why he suddenly had these thoughts while he was dodging the dangerous attacks of the Three-Tailed Alpha Shadow Wolf.
’I was just trying to think of the pros and cons of helping Thorgan, but I ended up thinking of so much more than that.’
A wry smile appeared on Simon’s lips.
Although it was strange to him having such thoughts, it sort of opened his eyes to what he wanted for himself.
His goal.
His path from now on.
How he should act.
And so many other things.
’Enough thinking. Time to kill an alpha.’
Simon dodged three shadow claws by performing a roll midair. And when he landed, he landed right beside a running Thorgan.
"What took you so long?!"
Thorgan instantly shouted with a relieved but horrified expression, and Simon inwardly rolled his eyes.
"How was I to know that you’d be having issues so quickly?"
Clang!
"Damn it!"
Thorgan cursed as he blocked a shadow spike that came their way with his daggers coated in shadows.
"Just fucking help me! This beast hates me to the core!"
Simon was about to reply, but he had no choice but to jump backward and dodge a shadow claw that attacked him from the floor.
"Yeah. I noticed. Why does it hate you so much? Is it because you killed all its underlings?"
Thorgan blocked another shadow spike with sweat dripping from his chin.
"Well, that, and..."
Simon frowned, and he calmly tilted his head to the side, dodging another shadow spike.
"And?"
"And, I-"
HOWL!!!!
Thorgan’s words were cut off, as the Alpha howled to the moon and a black mist slowly came out of its body.
BANG!
Simon and Thorgan’s eyes widened in disbelief when the alpha suddenly appeared above them with his dark claws swiping at them.
"Oh shit!"
Simon’s eyes sharpened, and he instantly used his demonic energy to strengthen his legs.
Bang!
He dashed forward, right toward the alpha, but he didn’t attack the alpha.
No
He went right underneath the alpha, where the alpha’s claws could not reach.
Meanwhile, Thorgan jumped to the side in fear.
Inwardly, he was cursing the alpha.
’Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! I can’t enter the shadow dimension because of this damned beast. Fuck my life!’
Bang!
Boom!
The claws shattered the ground and ripped the trees in the distance to pieces.
Five claw marks could be seen on the ground, and Thorgan was dangerously close to one.
He saw it, and he felt like his heart was about to beat out of his chest as he stared at his foot which was merely an inch from the claw mark on the ground.
"Fool."
Simon’s voice drifted into his ears, but before he could respond or react, he was lifted up and the next sound he heard was...
Snap!
Growl!
The sound of jaws snapped echoed in the surroundings, and Thorgan watched with wide eyes as the Alpha turned toward him and Simon with fury in its eyes.
If not for Simon who quickly carried him, half of his body would be in the jaws of the alpha.
"Why are you in a daze for fuck sake?! Wake up!"
Thorgan’s pupils trembled, then his head went up, down, right, and left as Simon dodged numerous shadow claws that attempted to grab and tear both of them to pieces.
’Fuck. I’m dizzy.’
Thorgan felt like he was in a washing machine, and he held his head with a groan.
A few seconds later.
Thud
"Fuck."
Simon dropped Thorgan to the ground, causing Thorgan to curse.
"Get up. I have a simple plan."
Thorgan shook his head and looked at Simon, then he looked at the Alpha who was growling at them with his three black tails moving calmly but dangerously behind him, and dozens of shadow claws around the Alpha.
’It’s getting stronger with every passing minute.’ Thorgan thought, and Simon’s next words were the same as his thoughts.
"As you can see, it’s getting stronger as time goes on. Its fury is causing its chaos flame to grow rapidly, and if we’re not careful, it would no longer be a Prime Dread Beast with the strength of a Superior Dread Beast, but it would become a true Superior Dread Beast that would potentially become as powerful as a Supreme Dread Beast... We have to kill it now."
This was also Thorgan’s fear as he stared at the Alpha, and he also knew that the situation had become a lot more dangerous.
"I understand. What’s the plan? I’m all ears." Thorgan stood to his feet and dusted his body, but Simon’s next words made him freeze.
"You’ll be the bait."
"Huh?" He looked at Simon with a stunned expression.
"It hates you to the core. You’re the one it wants, and I made sure not to attack it so that its focus won’t shift to me."
"Hold up. You want me to attract all its attention? I can’t do that. Absolutely not. It’ll kill me and tear me to pieces." Thorgan vehemently shook his head as he rejected becoming bait.
Simon looked at him with a frown. "Why not? You survived up until now didn’t you? What’s the difference?"
"Number one, it’s fucking stronger than before. Number two, I can’t enter shadows anymore or manipulate the shadows in the surroundings anymore cause of that damned beast. My assured means of escape is no longer usable."
Simon shook his head, "Well, I don’t know how you’ll do it, but you have to be the bait. I can’t even be the bait if I want to since its focus is entirely on you."
"While you’re the bait, I’ll sneak up on it and kill it. So, do whatever you can to attract its attention."
Thorgan looked at Simon with wide eyes, and he could not but mumble to himself repeatedly.
"I’m going to die. I’m going to die. I’m so going to die."
Simon released a frustrated sigh. "See why I said you’re weaker than me."
