The Broken Halo-Chapter 211: She’s Strange
"Anyway, I actually wanted to ask about your friend, Shadow."
Simon was very surprised by Sunless’ question, but he was not shocked or stunned by it.
Sunless asking him about Thorgan’s where’s was one of the guesses he came up with amongst dozens of other guesses as to why Sunless decided to have breakfast together with him.
’Although I already guessed that she might have asked me to eat with her to ask about Thorgan, I’m still very surprised that she’s even asking about him.’
’I would not have been surprised if she doesn’t ask about Thorgan at all throughout our academy life, but she did, and that’s very surprising.’
Although Simon was surprised, he did not allow it to show on his face or in his eyes at all. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
His expression was calm but little surprise that was needed since he should be surprised that Sunless was asking about Thorgan.
"What do you want to know?" He asked while deciding to eat from his food.
He was starting to get very hungry, and he suspected that it was because of the demon blood energy drink Instructor Emith gave him that was making him very hungry so suddenly.
There were certain medications on earth that made one very hungry after taking them.
Sunless also took a bite of her monkey brain food, then she spoke after swallowing her food.
"I just wanted to ask if you knew about his whereabouts? I’ve not seen or heard him ever since our first day in the clan, and I’m a little bit concerned because he’s currently the number one student of our class... based on the trials and other factors though."
She paused at this point, and carefully observed Simon.
She knew that Simon was actually the rightful first placed Initiate in their class based on his performance in the trials, so she wanted to make sure that her words did not stir up his anger or annoy him.
Simon calmly and indifferently kept on eating his food with a satisfied expression.
When Sunless saw that there was no negative reaction from Simon, she continued with a relieved sigh.
"As I was saying, I’m worried that something happened to Shadow since he’s the first placed student of our class, and we’re also neighbors."
"I’m actually worried that maybe he was targeted because of his reputation as the best student in the class, and I’m worried I might be next if that’s truly the case."
"I just want to know if Shadow is actually okay, if you know where he is, or if you know his current condition since it seemed like you guys were close friends back in the registration hall."
A few seconds later, Simon swallowed his food, then he began to clean the corners of his mouth with his serviette.
"I’ve also been worried about Shadow recently because I haven’t seen him for some time now. I thought he was maybe cultivating or doing something very important, which is why I have not even gone to his home to look for him."
"Ohh." Sunless looked down with a slight knit of her brows behind her mask, then she spoke once again.
"But why didn’t you look for him yesterday? Didn’t you have the time to yourself yesterday?"
"I was in a fight with the Iron Fangs."
Sunless blinked in confusion behind her plain white mask.
"The Iron Fangs? Who are they?"
Simon shook his head slightly.
"A bunch of Year Two bullies. They tried to bully me in this very cafeteria, but I fought back and well... it escalated into something else outside the academy."
Sunless looked down at her, and though she didn’t say anything, Simon had the feeling that she currently had a pondering expression on her face.
He took a sip of his soup.
"I’m actually quite surprised that you don’t know about the Iron Fangs or that you don’t know about my battle with the Iron Fangs. I thought almost everybody would know about my battle with the Iron Fangs. You can even hear some people talking about it in this cafeteria currently."
Sunless looked around, and when she focused on the conversation of other students around her, she immediately heard how some Initiates were speaking about Simon and the Iron Fangs.
Sunless released a soft sigh.
"I honestly had no idea about your fight with the Iron Fangs."
Simon nonchalantly shrugged. "It’s fine."
Sunless nodded, then she released a soft sigh.
"I wonder where Shadow went to. Hopefully, he’s not dead since it’ll be a big blow to the clan."
Simon nodded softly as he drank his shadow wolf soup.
"Yeah. I hope so too."
No words were said for some time, and both of them decided to enjoy their meal in the silence.
Some minutes later, they both finished their food, and there was still silence between them.
Simon decided to rest and allow his stomach to digest his food.
He looked at his Grave Mark, and he saw that they still had more than thirty minutes before their next class which was the Vertical Mobility class.
’I guess I can use the remaining time to rest.’ He thought, then he glanced at Sunless.
When it came to Sunless and the questions she asked, he wasn’t sure what to think about them.
At the end of the day, Sunless wanted to know about Thorgan’s status because she was afraid he had been targeted and that she might be next.
Her concerns were understandable to a certain extent, and well, Simon would not lie or deny that he wasn’t tempted to devour her mainly because of her affinity.
But he obviously won’t do such a thing right now.
’Well, there’s also the possibility that she’s working with the academy and the academy or clan’s interrogation has begun.’
Simon knew that he could not also rule out that possibility since it could be the truth.
Sunless could be a secret agent of the academy or the clan whose goal in interacting with him was to see if he would say anything that could be used against him.
’Oh well... If I’m right, by tomorrow or later today, I’ll be called for questioning.’
’Sigh.’
’What a hassle.’
A second after Simon had these thoughts, he heard Lilith’s voice.
[She’s strange.]
