The Broken Halo-Chapter 209: Running

What were the chances that in less than twenty four hours, he’d be dealing with gravity.

The gears in his mind spun rapidly as he thought of what to do in this situation.

’If I’m right, then it means the gravity in certain locations can instantly change once we reach those locations.’

’There are places where the gravity can suddenly increase or where it would suddenly reduce.’

’The array on the ground and the formations on the walls should be what is controlling the gravity in this place, but now, the main question is if the change in gravity at certain locations is random or if the locations where the gravity changes are random.’

’If both are random, then it means that running around this track would be a an immense task.’

Gravity appeared once again, and Simon fell to the ground.

He rolled on the ground, then he continued jogging.

’I can’t use my demonic energy to increase my weight and I cannot use it as an attractive force to pull myself to the ground since I don’t have an earth affinity.’

’Does that mean I’ll just have to adapt to the changes in gravity?’

Simon suddenly paused as he felt a change in the gravity around him.

The air was five times heavier than normal, and the ground around his feet cracked due to the sudden change.

’How annoying.’

Although the increase in gravity was not little, it was something he could ignore and it could not be compared to Akaza’s gravity increase.

’I can use my true strength to force my way through this, but that would defeat my purpose of making sure that Instructor Emith does not know my true strength.’

’What to do. What to do.’

Just as Simon was pondering on what to do, Instructor Emith’s voice echoed in the mountain.

"This training is meant to improve your balance and your instant muscle response. It’s also meant to teach you how to prevent your movements from being too predictable."

"For now, I’ll allow you to use your demonic energy. In the future, you’ll only use your physical body."

Simon’s eyes flashed when he heard this.

’I see. It’s a good training.’

Simon coated his entire body with demonic energy, then he ran and ignored the increase in gravity.

The eyes of his classmates who were watching slowly widened as they watched not only Simon but Sunless too.

Whenever the gravity suddenly increased, both of them would thicken the coat of demonic energy around their bodies so as to protect themselves.

And if the gravity suddenly vanished, they would quickly jump forward while reducing the demonic energy around their bodies but increasing the quantity of demonic energy around their feet, ankles, and legs.

They were not perfect, and there were few times where they stumbled and nearly fell because the changes were so random.

They might take seven steps at one point in time before the gravity changes, but on the tenth step, the gravity would change once again.

Their reflexes and focus awed the entire class and even Instructor Emith who had bright eyes as she watched the duo.

Both of them were not running with their full speed, but as they ran side by side and reacted accordingly to the gravitational changes, they looked exceptional.

Fifteen minutes later, they completed the tenth lap and both of them looked at each other with neutral gazes behind their masks.

’Sunless... She’s an enigma. Her control over her demonic energy is good... very good. If it was the past me, I might have taught her as long as she was a human.’

’She’s a talent... I wonder what she looks like.’

Simon eventually nodded at her, then he turned and approached Instructor Emith.

Sunless looked at Simon for a few more seconds before following behind him.

"Good job. You guys did well."

For the first time since the class began, Instructor Emith praised and did not shout.

"It was a close call, but Broken Halo came first and Sunless came second. You’ll get your rewards after the class."

Simon and Sunless bowed and thanked her.

Instructor Emith nodded, then she looked at the remaining four Initiates who were not moving and were frozen on the spot.

Sunless and Simon’s performance had stunned them and they could not help but watch without moving.

Instructor Emith scoffed with disgust.

"You four have six minutes to complete ten new laps. If you don’t, you’ll remain after the class ends and undergo extra training."

The four Initiates trembled, and without hesitation, they scrambled to their feet and ran.

However, their performance could not be compared to Simon and Sunny’s performance.

At the end of the day, they failed to run ten laps in six minutes and they were punished.

The others also ran in groups of six but they were not given time limits. They were given all the time they needed to run ten laps.

A few tried to be smart. They chose to walk instead of run or jog so that they could quickly respond to the change in gravity.

However, Instructor Emith ruthlessly gave them three minutes to run ten laps or they’d severe punishment after the class was over.

One hour later, the class was over and everybody was spent and exhausted.

None was standing, and even Simon was not standing but sitting.

Instructor Emith observed her students who were sprawled on the ground while panting heavily.

’As usual, many of them were not physically trained properly by their families or backers before coming to the clan. Their main focus was on their heart rank.

She was inwardly disappointed by this, but she already expected such a thing and it was her job to correct the mistakes done by the backers of these children before her.

She then looked at Simon and Sunless. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

’But these two... They’re different. Their physically stronger than normal, and I know that both of them are not truly giving it their all... Especially the boy.’

’Should I teach both of them personally?’

The moment Instructor Emith had this thought, Simon had a chill run across his spine, and a terrible premonition filled his heart.
