The Broken Halo-Chapter 184: High C Grade Shadow Affinity
When one stores a corpse in a spatial ring, the decay of the corpse would be slowed down, but some spatial rings had the formations and arrays that could slow down the decay of a corpse to a ridiculous level.
The Sword Daemon’s spatial ring was one, and it was one of the reasons why when Simon used Devour on it, he sensed that all the things he could devour in a fresh corpse were still available in the Alpha’s corpse.
Simon could not just use Devour on any corpse he sees because the longer a corpse dies, the more of the things he could devour would be gone.
However, this was also dependent on the heart rank/power of the demon.
The more powerful the demon, the longer it takes for the attributes in the corpse to dissipate.
The fact that the Sword Daemon’s spatial ring could preserve the corpse of the Three-Tailed Alpha Shadow Wolf like it was still a fresh corpse was something that greatly pleased him.
The moment he used Devour on the Alpha’s corpse, Simon ignored the shrinking and obvious changes to the corpse.
His mind was on the layers and characteristics of the Alpha he could devour.
Unlike Thorgan, there was no resistance from the Alpha’s corpse since it only had a Minor Noble Bloodline.
Simon obviously devoured the physical attributes of the Alpha since it was the easiest thing to devour.
But when he did this, he could feel his physical body feeling... bloated.
It was like he had eaten far too much, and his body was struggling to contain it.
’I’ve reached my physical limit... How unfortunate. Only if my bloodline was a higher grade, then my limit would be higher.’
Although Simon was saying this, he was still satisfied by what his physical limit was as a Lesser Demon with a Supreme Common Bloodline.
His guts told him that if it was an average Lesser Demon with a Supreme Common Bloodline that had Devour, the demon’s physical limit would be at the level of a Supreme Fiend.
At most, the demon would have a physical strength that was comparable to that of a Minor Archfiend, but having such physical capability would mean the demon was putting a lot of strain on his body.
It would be far different from the way Simon felt bloated, and that’s because the difference between a Minor Archfiend and a Supreme Fiend was immense.
As for Simon, he had the physical capability of a Prime Archfiend after devouring the Alpha, and the reason for this was because of the minor awakening of his Daemon bloodline.
’I feel like if I devour another Archfiend or maybe two more, I should be able to have the physical capabilities of a Superior Archfiend, but I would not be able to effectively use my body. It would be like I’m moving through lead or with weights on my shoulder.’
Simon pondered briefly for a moment, then he shifted his full attention back to the corpse of the Alpha.
His main goal in devouring the Alpha was to increase his heart rank, but he also wanted to make an attempt to gain something extra.
He wanted to see if he could devour at least a portion of the Alpha’s shadow affinity.
Simon was not certain what the Alpha’s shadow affinity grade was, though he was certain it was at least B grade.
If he could devour the Alpha’s shadow affinity, it would not only increase his own shadow affinity grade, but it would also make it easier for him to completely refine the Alpha’s demonic energy and make it his.
Simon’s gaze was one of pure and complete focus as he seemed to be staring into the body of the Alpha.
He went deeper and deeper into the layers of the Alpha’s body, and he ignored all of the Alpha’s skills since he did not want them.
Though, he knew that some skills would help him against the Iron Fangs, it would still be foolish of him to waste one of his remaining four spots on the skill of a Dread Beast with a Minor Bloodline.
’Found you.’
Simon’s eyes flashed as he finally located the shadow affinity of the Alpha.
The Shadow Affinity also noticed him and it tried to escape, but compared to Thorgan’s shadow affinity, its movement and reaction was very slow in Simon’s eyes.
However, that does not still mean that it was easy for him to obtain the Alpha’s shadow affinity.
Devour was like a hand that was trying to grab a slippery eel that was hell bent on escaping, and with every attempt he made at trying to get the Alpha’s shadow affinity, the disintegration of the corpse increased.
This was something Simon noticed at the back of his mind, and it made him realize that going into the deeper layers of the body also increased the disintegration of the corpse.
If the shadow affinity was able to escape, the corpse would completely disintegrate, and there’d be nothing left for him to devour.
Simon tried, and tried, and tried, and tried again. And with every attempt he made, he got better and better, his skill proficiency increasing by a noticeable degree.
Eventually... he succeeded and he successfully devoured the Alpha’s shadow affinity.
’Finally.’
’If I did not have initially possess shadow affinity, I would never have been able to devour the Alpha’s shadow affinity.’
’Devouring affinities is extremely difficult.’
Simon exhaled a deep sigh of relief as he felt something cold, dark, and unfathomably deep enter his body and fuse with his already present shadow affinity. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Simon observed his shadow affinity, and though he could not accurately measure it like Researcher Mahan, his experience helped him to make an estimate of his current shadow affinity.
’It did not cross the C grade mark, but it increased from the Intermediate sub-grade to high. I now have a High C grade shadow affinity.’
’But I’m rather surprised. The Alpha should have an Intermediate B grade shadow affinity, but it was only enough for me to increase my shadow affinity by a small sub-grade.’
’This answers my questions, and now I know that I’ll need to focus more on quality, not quantity since increasing the grade of my shadow affinity or any affinity would not be easy.’
A few seconds later, the corpse of the Alpha turned to dust, and Simon transferred everything into his spatial ring.
He then sat with his legs crossed and focused on the Alpha’s demonic energy in his body.
’Hopefully, this is enough for me to advance from a Lesser Demon to a Fiend.’
