The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 348: The Test of Elemental Powers
By the time Emily and Shadow returned to the Alessandro mansion, it was already past ten o’clock late at night, way past dinner time. Yet, they found Leo, Crist, and Daniel sitting in the living room while watching a live football match.
"Someone finally remembered that they have a home," Crist remarked in a teasing tone as he noticed them first.
Emily and Shadow made their way toward the trio and settled down on the couches, Shadow took his place on a single couch at the very end as usual while Emily found a comfy spot between Leo and Daniel.
"Did I miss anything special?" She questioned while looking at her brothers who immediately shook their heads in denial.
"How can there be anything special happening here when you were absent?" Leo asked as he gave his sister the biggest smile possible.
"So, where have you been? With Kaiden?" The one who asked the question was Crist and the displeasure was clearly evident in his voice when he mentioned Kaiden’s name.
Emily let out a sigh before she responded - "I do remember messaging in the group chat that I’ll be staying the night at his place. Why such a question then?" She was determined to handle the situation with as much calmness as she muster.
Thankfully, before Crist could have said anything else, Shadow decided to help her out - "You should go to bed now. You have training tomorrow."
All three brothers seemed ready to protest but one sharp look from Shadow and they all gulped down the words that had reached their lips. The scene made Emily smile and filled her heart with warmth.
"Alright, Sorellina, go and get some sleep. We will talk more at breakfast." Daniel said as he softly patted his sister’s head.
Emily nodded her head before she wished everyone ’Goodnight’ and headed toward her bedroom with Shadow to get some much-needed sleep.

The morning came way too quickly than Emily wanted. She took a quick shower and got ready for the day before joining her family for breakfast.
To her delight, all of her brothers were present at the dining table and Shadow was also there. The time passed in chuckles, sweet banters, and chattering before everyone finished their breakfast and headed out for their work.
Shadow and Emily headed to the Fae Realm where the Fae King was already waiting for them. Seeing the man sitting under the pavilion, Emily immediately looked at her watch to check the time.
"Don’t worry, you aren’t late. Instead, you have actually learned to be punctual and have started prioritizing the important matters in your life." The Fae King spoke from where he was sitting without even turning his head to look in their direction.
Emily felt a great urge to say something in response but she knew that would be a great mistake on her part. Therefore, she took in a deep breath to calm herself down before putting on a huge smile on her lips.
"Thank you for the praise, Your Majesty." She used the politest tone she could possibly muster and even bowed as a greeting.
The Fae King finally spared her a glance and it seemed like he was fully aware of her thoughts. Not wanting to be tortured during the training, Emily decided to start with her daily warm-up while Shadow walked toward the pavilion.
Her warm-up routine included some stretching, simple exercises to awaken her muscles, and finally cultivating her magical powers for ten minutes to make them circulate through her body and be ready for use at her call.
As she finished her warm-up routine, Shadow, who had been talking with the Fae King, departed, leaving her alone once again to train and pass challenges on her own.
"What am I learning today?" Emily asked, her voice filled with anticipation.
The Fae King, standing with an air of regal authority, looked at her with a slight smile. "Since you have been working on your attitude and physical strength these past few sessions, let’s step up a bit. I want to see your magical strength now. Only after I’m aware of your capabilities will I be able to help in shaping your strength and control. I hope that you are ready."
Emily took a deep breath, steeling herself for the challenge ahead. The Fae King’s plan for the day’s training was finally something related to her powers and not her attitude. She was eager to explore her magical abilities but also felt a wave of nervousness wash over her.
She nodded her head, determination burning in her eyes. She knew that mastering her powers wouldn’t be easy, but she was ready for the challenge. "I am. Let’s get started. What do I have to do?"
The Fae King’s expression turned thoughtful, and with a flick of his hand, he conjured the test setup before her. Four high stone platforms appeared, each bearing a unique item. The first platform held a solitary candle, the second an empty glass jar, the third a tiny seed, and the fourth carried a basket brimming with delicate flower petals.
The Fae King proceeded to explain the tasks and rules of the tests. "First, you must ignite the candle using your firepower, but be careful not to set anything else on fire, just the candle. Next, collect water vapors from the air and fill the jar with water. After that, use your magic to coax the seed into growing into a plant. Finally, demonstrate control over the wind by moving the flower petals in the smoothest manner possible."
He observed her carefully as he spoke his next words - "These tests are not only to test your elemental powers but also the level of your control over them. Get started whenever you feel like it."
Emily absorbed the instructions, her mind racing with the possibilities and challenges ahead. She approached the candle with a focused look but didn’t walk too close, she made sure to keep some distance between herself and the object of the test.
Taking in a deep breath, she focused on her powers and searched for her fire element. It responded immediately to her call, almost as if it was happy to be finally being summoned by its master.
A scream escaped her lips as a huge fireball burst from her hand but thankfully, it dispersed into nothingness shortly after.
"Don’t just summon it. Try to control the amount you need." The Fae King directed from the sidelines.
Emily nodded her head and took in a couple of deep breaths before once again calling her fire, but this time, she made sure to summon just a flicker of it. The very next moment, a controlled stream of flames danced from her fingertips.
She launched the flame toward the candle and watched as it enveloped the wick of the candle without so much as flickering the surrounding air. The candle thread ignited with a small flame and Emily was almost assured that she had passed the task but then she noticed the fire that was destroying the luscious grass at the bottom of the stone pedestal.
"Wha-"
The Fae King was quick to put out the fire and stopped it from spreading any further. But it also ended up diminishing the light of the candle.
"Fail." The Fae King notified while motioning her to continue with the second task.
Concentrating, Emily reached out to the atmosphere, pulling moisture from the air and her brow furrowed with effort, but she maintained her composure until... she caused nearly a bucket of water to drop right into the jar which sent the said jar toppling down from the pedestal.
Emily quickly turned her gaze toward the Fae King and she didn’t even need the man to speak to know that she had failed the second task as well with flying colors.
Now came the moment to nurture life from a tiny seed. Emily walked closer to the stone platform, extending her hand over the seed. She channeled her earth magic into it, and for once, she succeeded. Before her eyes, the seed sprouted and a tiny bud sprouted from it, but then it stopped growing just as quickly as it happened. This task was half success and half failure.
The final task was to manipulate the wind. Emily extended her arms, focusing on the delicate flower petals. With a gentle wave of her hand, she summoned a light breeze that carried the petals aloft. They danced and swirled around her, moving in harmony with her intentions, and then, she lost her control the very moment those petals reached the Fae King.
She watched as the petals hit the man right on the face, showering over him.
A few moments of deep silence passed before the Fae King announced in a deep and controlled voice - "Congratulations, Ms Alessandro. You failed all four tests."
