The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 312: The Deal with the Fae King
"Deal!" Emily didn’t waste even a second before she made the deal with the devil like Fae King who appeared a little bit surprised by her immediate reply.
"Really?" The look that he gave her was full of suspicion as if he was worried that she was brewing some sort of plan against him.
"Of course, but I have a condition." Emily quickly confessed and noticed as the expression on the King’s face changed dramatically. "Of course, you do." The man muttered under his breath but she heard him loud and clear. "What is your condition?"
Emily put on a huge smile on her face as she revealed her condition, "I want you to fulfill my wish first and then I’ll help you as I promised." She didn’t let the innocent look on her face falter even for a second as she spoke these shameless words.
"You..." The King was about to say something but after seeing her arched eyebrows, he changed his mind. After taking a deep breath, he finally looked back at her and asked, "What is your wish then?"
Who would have thought that the man would agree so easily? Emily was getting surprised again and again by his attitude and the more he seemed lenient toward her just because he wanted to meet her brother, the more curious she was getting to find out exactly what was going on.
"Why do you want to meet my brother?" She asked immediately without wasting any time. Her eyes were probably filled with stars of expectation as she looked at the king and waited for him to answer her question.
The flick on her forehead wasn’t what she expected but that was definitely what she got. A small cry escaped her lips as she rubbed her forehead and glared at the man. "What was that for?"
"For being too curious about things you should not be involved in." The man said as he brushed her head and ruffled her neatly combed hair.
"You..." Emily had to step farther away from the man to save her hair from becoming a mess. "What do you mean by I should not be involved? You are asking me to bring my brother to you without giving me a reason. Of course, I should know that it’s safe for him before doing what you want. Besides, he’s my brother, I’m going to intervene in his personal life just as much as he has done in mine. Fair and square."
The King remained silent as he observed her for a while before finally nodding his head. "Do you think I won’t be able to get to your brother if you will refuse to help me?"
"Maybe not. But I’ll make sure that you won’t get whatever you want from my brother that easily." Emily responded as she gave the man an intense look that was full of challenge.
"I’m the Fae King."
"And I’m his most possessed treasure."
Emily was quick with the response and she didn’t miss how her words made him falter for a mere second before he got his composed back. "I shouldn’t have taken you so lightly." He muttered as he looked away for a second before once again turning his attention back to her.
She didn’t respond and just waited for him to speak. Now, it was up to him - either he was going to tell his reason behind wanting to meet her brother or he won’t.
"I have something important to sort out with your brother." He finally gave a vague answer.
"You don’t even know him..." Emily was about to point out just how ingenuine his words sounded but she got cut off before she could have finished speaking.
"Maybe I know this one."
She gazed at the King with questioning eyes. He almost seemed confident that he knew her brother and there seemed to be a weird sort of intense look in his eyes that was definitely not directed at her.
"Why... are you so sure?" She found herself asking after a while and her eyes keenly observed his expressions.
"Because..." The man took a step closer in her direction as he spoke. "... I think... he’s my mate."
Emily stood there with her jaw hanging open as she tried to wrap her mind around the words that just left the King’s mouth. "Your... m-mate? How can you be so sure about it just because of a bracelet?"
This time around, it was the King’s turn to look confused and surprised. "You have a mate too. Don’t tell me you can’t feel his essence when you touch the things that he has touched, especially the ones that he cherishes."
"I... I never paid attention to it..." Emily murmured as she felt embarrassed while confessing. She literally couldn’t recall ever sensing Kaiden’s essence while touching things, or she probably never paid enough attention to realize that she was feeling such a thing.
The King let out a sigh as he shook his head but she didn’t get to notice the change in his expression as if some sort of realization had dawned over him. "Nevermind about that. Just tell me whether you are going to help me or not."
Emily looked at him for a couple of moments in silence while she thought deeply about the situation. Only when several long moments had passed and the King seemed to be still waiting for her answer, did she finally reply, "Fine, I’ll find a way to make him accompany me here tomorrow but..."
She took a little pause to emphasize on her but before she continued. "... that’s all you can expect from me. I’m helping you because I want my brother to find his love of life too but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna betray his trust. So, just this once. Make sure to not mess it up."
The look that the fae gave her this time almost made her think that he was a little bit impressed with her. He nodded his head in agreement to her terms before both of them shook hands.
"I’ll be looking forward to tomorrow."

As soon as Emily stepped inside Kaiden’s office, she found him standing next to a shelf as he seemed to be busy reading, or searching, for some sort of files.
He turned around to look at her when he noticed her presence and his warm smile welcomed her. She returned the smile before she ran straight into his arms and locked her hands around his waist while burying her face in his shirt as she inhaled his familiar scent.
The man immediately put aside the file that he was holding before wrapping his arms around her protectively. "Was the day tiring?" He asked while burying his fingers into her hair before he started lightly massaging her scalp.
Emily immediately let out a small sigh as the massage felt too good and comfortable. "It wasn’t. I didn’t get to do much today, we mostly... talked." She replied while recalling her conversation with the Fae King. She still needed to come up with a plan to make her brother accompany her for her training the following morning.
"Good," Kaiden whispered next to her ear before he placed a kiss against her temple. His attention was then pulled away toward Shadow as he too entered the office with three cups of coffee in his hands.
Emily reluctantly pulled away from the hug before she turned to accept her coffee and thanked Shadow. The man just smiled at her warmly before he turned his attention to Kaiden.
"How long before you will be free from your work?" He asked Kaiden as he handed one of the coffee cups to the man.
"Around half an hour or so. Sorry for making you both wait but it’s something really important that needs my attention." Kaiden apologized as he gave both Shadow and Emily an apologetic look.
"It’s alright. We can wait while you will deal with your stuff." Emily assured him as she placed a soft kiss on his cheek before heading in the direction of the couches that were placed on the other side of the huge office.
Shadow followed behind her while Kaiden returned his attention to his work. He pulled out two or three more files before he headed back to his table and settled down in his CEO’s chair.
"He looks so handsome when working, right?" She asked Shadow for confirmation as she started at Kaiden with lovesick eyes. She noticed the small twitch on her mate’s lips which told her that he had heard her clearly but she wasn’t embarrassed at all for speaking the facts.
Shadow spared a quick look in Kaiden’s direction before he gave a small nod but also added at the same time, "He does but there are so many others who look even better than him in their office outfits and working hard while sitting on their CEO’s chairs."
Emily just shook her head but didn’t comment. She was just happy to see that Shadow was finally returning to his old self and she knew that Kaiden was just as happy as her.
