The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 301: The Confession
The morning sunlight filtered inside the hospital room through the gaps in the drapes covering the glass windows.
Emily stirred in sleep as the sunlight attacked her face, making her groan as she turned around and bury her face in the pillow only to push it away when the strong smell of disinfectants and alcohol greeted her.
Her eyes flew open and it took her a couple of seconds to adjust to the light before she finally got the chance to look around the room. The unfamiliarity of the place had her sitting up on the bed in an instant but the sudden moment sent pain throbbing through her temples which ultimately resided after a few moments as she sat there on the bed with her palms massaging her temples.
When the pain was finally gone, she took her time to look around the room and realized that she was in the hospital. Thankfully, no IV was attached to her, and other than the slight throbbing in her temples, she felt almost fine.
The door of her hospital room opened and a very familiar figure entered, and as their gazes locked, she recalled all that happened the previous night. A shiver of pure anxiety and fear washed over her as she watched the man moving closer to her bed.
But she wasn’t prepared yet to face him or his questions, and she wondered if she would ever be prepared. She hated running away from him like this but she was even more afraid of explaining.
"Crist." The thought of her brother suddenly entered her mind, causing her body to move on its own accord. "I should go and find my brother." She muttered while trying to climb out of the hospital bed.
However, she was stopped right the moment she removed the blanket from her body and tried to move her legs toward the edge of the hospital bed to climb down.
"Kaiden." She looked up into the deep cerulean eyes of her mate who had her pinned in her place with his hold on her shoulders. He looked back at her with so many emotions swirling in his beautiful eyes that it made all the thoughts of fleeing disappear from her mind.
"We need to talk, Emilia Alessandro. And you won’t be going anywhere this time without giving me the answers that I deserve." His voice was neither loud nor harsh but she could tell that he wasn’t requesting her.
Her shoulders slumped in defeat as she realized that she had no other option left. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting from him next but a hug was definitely not on her list. Still, she found herself melting in his embrace as his arms tightened around her body, pulling her closer to his chest.
"Do you have any idea how scared I was? Everything was going fine but then you saw her photo and..." He trailed off as he pulled away from the hug to look into her eyes. "Do you think I’m completely clueless about all this?"
His last question made her look at him in confusion and at the same time, she felt her heartbeat racing up as a bad feeling settled deep inside her.
Kaiden moved to take a seat in front of her as he pulled both her hands in his own as if to make sure that he won’t flee again, or maybe he just needed to touch her to assure himself that she was indeed there with him.
"When we found that Fifth Master, I got to find out about the place where you have been kept hostage and then I realized that it was the same place where I found Elisa. Not only that but the timing of both your capturing coincides too." Kaiden’s voice was soft as he spoke while looking into her eyes but Emily was having a completely different reaction. Her heart was sinking with every word he was speaking.
"I didn’t think much about that back then, considering it a coincidence. But... after your reaction to her photo last night, I understood, that the two of you had some kind of link." Neither his tone nor his eyes seemed to be blaming her but it didn’t help in making her feel good in any way. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Angel..." Kaiden pulled her attention back to him when she turned her face away to avoid looking at his eyes. "... Can you please tell me exactly what happened between both of you? Not only because she was my mate and I want to find out the truth but because I don’t want to lose you." His tone was desperate, almost a plea.
"Elisa was indeed my first mate, but I never got to fall in love with her because she was snatched away from me too quickly. She always remained as my best friend and my first mate, but never as my lover. But you... you are the one I love the most in this entire world. You are my entire world, Emily. I can lose everything in my life, but I can’t lose you."
Emily felt tears sliding down her cheeks at the raw confession Kaiden was making. She could feel the truth in every word he spoke through the bond and for the very first time, the realization of just how much she meant to him dawned over her.
More tears burst out of her eyes as she let her head fall against his shoulder, his arms immediately coming to wrap around her waist as he tried not only to comfort her but also to comfort himself. His wolf was also there, equally agitated and on the edge.
It took her a couple of moments to pull herself together before she finally backed away from the hug and spoke while fixing her gaze on her hands that were resting in her lap. "I did meet her there. She was held there in the dungeons with other shifters, most of them were werewolves."
