68 -64: Do You Want to Be the Mayor?

Lind once again stepped through the gates of Prey Town.

After half a month, he didn’t expect everything to have changed so much.

“Is he the mayor of Prey Town?”

Lind looked at the man chained by the Undead.

Ronin, he had seen him, though they weren’t very familiar.

“Are you the master of these red-eyed mad dogs?” Mad Wolf looked at Lind, not immediately mentioning Lady Serene’s name, “Who are you?”

“An…

obstinate old man?” Lind tried to find an adjective that suited him.

“Old Nobility?” Mad Wolf smirked.

His gaze passed over the Undead dressed as Wanderers and looked at the two Soldiers following behind Lind.

Rand infantry armor, elite equipment.

“Wanderers!

I don’t care what these Old Nobility promised you!

Kill him!” Mad Wolf shouted, “Kill this relic of the old era, I pledge allegiance to a powerful member of the New Nobility.

We represent the order of the new era.

You can gain women, territory, and power!”

“Fuck!” An Undead beside him was startled and kicked Mad Wolf in the back, sending him sprawling head-first into the ground.

“Lord, our hearts are loyally pledged to Star Dragon—you know we wouldn’t think otherwise!”

Once someone made a move, the other Undead quickly reacted, each declaring their stance.

You’re a Red-Name Monster, yet you ask us to attack the mayor of Newbie Village—are you out of your mind?

“It seems your attempts to incite have failed,” Lind said, somewhat regretfully.

He had been really scared just now, actually thinking the Undead were about to turn on him.

Moreover, amidst the power struggle between the New Nobility and Old Nobility, he was really just a remnant.

“Can we have a proper conversation now?” Lind asked Mad Wolf, “I have many questions, like why you became the mayor of Prey Town.”

“I have nothing to tell the remnants of the old era,” Mad Wolf showed his resolve with a tilt of his head, knowing well the prideful posturing of these Old Nobility.

Conservative, fastidious—they valued ceremony above all and regarded so-called lineage and honor more heavily than anything else.

If something piqued the interest of the Old Nobility, they might even sacrifice their own interests.

This was considered ridiculous by the New Nobility.

If I want something of yours, I’ll just take it.

I’ll take as much as I can, perpetually uninterested in secrets.

The search of the mayor’s mansion in Prey Town didn’t require a word from Lind.

The Undead, faces eager, had already rushed forth, their eyes redder than if they were on drugs.

Picking through garbage, searching—a staggering figure was soon pushed in front of Lind.

“Lord, he says he’s the mayor!” the Undead already began playing their roles, visibly excited.

“I remember Ronin was the mayor,” Lind turned his head to glance at Mad Wolf.

It’s only been a few days, and Prey Town has already changed mayors twice, is it some kind of rotational system?

“Ronin is my brother, I am Lock!” the young man quickly shouted.

He had hidden in the mansion during the conflict.

He had never expected these people would barge in and kidnap someone, acting more barbaric than mountain bandits, nearly stealing everything.

“So what he knows, you know too?” Lind pointed at the kneeling Mad Wolf.

“Yes, I know!

I know everything!” Lock quickly nodded, much more earnest than Mad Wolf, not holding any contempt for the Old Nobility.

Whoever holds the sword is the Noble!

Beliefs, dignity can all be quite flexible.

Lind nodded, satisfied, removed the Broken Sword from his back and looked at Mad Wolf, “It seems your luck is not so great.”

“You…

wait a moment!” Mad Wolf realized, this Old Nobility didn’t seem so traditional after all.

Shouldn’t he ask me if I have any secrets?

Even Lock doesn’t know everything; there are quite a few things hidden in my heart…

“I only need one person who knows the secrets,” Lind raised the Carrion Queen’s Broken Sword high and suddenly, with one swift strike, Mad Wolf’s head was easily decapitated.

Blood spurted out.

Lind had long passed the naive phase of interrogating for information.

Enemies should be killed on sight; asking questions is unnecessary.

Truth or falsehood, it only adds to the troubles.

The main thing was that he had seen through the mad Wolf’s obvious secrets, and he would not allow himself to be manipulated by the Mad Wolf, even if it meant losing the so-called secrets.

“Tell me what you know,” he looked towards Lock.

Lock nervously glanced at the position of the Mad Wolf’s head, the skull refusing to close its eyes in death.

The Mad Wolf who had made himself unable to resist, the one who had planned to make him a figurehead, had died just like that?

Gulp!

Swallowing a mouthful of saliva, he opened his mouth, “I will answer all your questions!

I, I can swear by the sun!”

He did not foolishly ask Lind to promise not to kill him.

Lind gently wiped the Broken Sword, the unsophisticated Carrion Queen’s Broken Sword which was rare divine weapon in the eyes of the Undead at this stage, leather gently brushing against the blade’s pattern, his slow movements indicating a calm demeanor.

With the help of the sword and corpses, Lock spoke very quickly.

The Mad Wolf came from the east, from east of Red Dragon Foothills.

He had traveled via Dragon Tooth Mountain Trail.

His master was Lady Serene, a superior warrior who surpassed even a Great Knight, reputed to be unstoppable by the walls of Prey Town or any cliffs and gorges.

And Lady Serene was loyal to the New Nobility of the Red Dragon Foothills, the Lord Leon whom Lind had heard of long ago.

Lady Serene had tried to control the forces west of Red Dragon Foothills and had dispatched many subordinates, including the Mad Wolf and the ‘Hyena’ Old Mand whom Lind had encountered before.

“…Mad Wolf thought it was Old Mand and the Wanderer who had caused the conflict, so he sought the power of Prey Town,” Lock didn’t hold back at all, only quietly omitting that he had already sent people to Dragon Tooth Mountain Trail to invite Lady Serene.

It wouldn’t be many days before Lady Serene arrived, and with the Mad Wolf now dead, could it be said…

As he spoke, Lock turned to look at the rampaging Undead.

Perhaps the Mad Wolf could never have imagined that those he considered ‘his people’ were not the Wanderers or red-eyed rabid dogs, but this group of madmen.

These people had merely inexplicably donned the clothes of Wanderers, then inexplicably snuck in and launched a sudden siege attack.

If the Mad Wolf had not mistakenly identified them as his allies, even if he would have lost, the battle wouldn’t have concluded so quickly.

The Mad Wolf’s death was truly undeserved.

Lind nodded, then changed the subject, “So why are you the mayor, Ronin?

“My brother is in the dungeon,” Lock gritted his teeth and immediately said, “Sir!

I can swear allegiance to you, I can declare the entire Prey Town falls under your command!”

“Ah?” Lind thought he had misheard.

He had already completely overtaken Prey Town, and had even captured the soldiers of Prey Town.

Did he still need your loyalty?

Prey Town was already his prize of war.

You are offering me my own possession?

“Thank you for your kindness, but that might not be necessary.”

Lind didn’t think much of Prey Town.

The environment was average, the walls weren’t as high as those at Star Dragon Ridge, and compared to a military outpost and a small town, it indeed felt somewhat bullying.

Not to mention the Mad Wise Ones’ village was closer to Star Dragon Ridge and more conveniently located.

He had absolutely no reason to move to Prey Town.

But the area still needed management, as some people were emerging from their hiding places amidst the chaos created by ‘garbage-picking’ Undead.

The Undead were only interested in looting, but the NPCs thought they were about to be hacked to pieces and ran out screaming.

Seeing quite a few people huddled in the small square ahead, they immediately behaved like lambs straying from the flock, dutifully gathering in the small square and crouching with their hands over their heads.

Even though Lind had said nothing and given no instructions, more and more people kept running over to crouch down.

“Old Celly!” Lind saw a familiar face, his eyes lighting up.

Old Celly, a merchant skilled at business, who usually managed to swindle Lind during their transactions.

He was surprised that this old fellow had managed to survive intact until now.

Old Celly, who used to forcefully sell goods to Lind, walked towards him after hearing his name called, his entire demeanor defeated, shoulders slumped, embodying a tragic readiness to face death.

“Would you like to be the mayor?”

Old Celly, originally prepared to receive a blow from Lind as an outlet for his anger, froze, his voice squeezing out his feelings like a choked duck.

“Ah?”
