The Billionaire's New Wife in Chief-Chapter 867 - 287: Is She Experiencing Morning Sickness?
Li hurriedly took a bottle of water from the small refrigerator in the car, opened the cap, and handed it directly to Song Qiao.
Song Qiao retched for quite a while, took the mineral water Li handed her, rinsed her mouth with it, and then drank two sips. She felt a bit better, waved her hand, and said, "No need for more, maybe I haven’t been resting well these days. You drive, I’ll sleep a bit in the car, let’s first go buy something to eat."
Li noticed Song Qiao’s face was a bit pale and still felt uneasy. "Sister Song, why don’t I take you to the hospital for a checkup?"
"No need, I’m fine." Song Qiao leaned back against the seat and rubbed her temples. Seeing Li still standing there, clearly worried, she sighed and said, "I’m just feeling a bit uncomfortable, I’ll be fine after some rest. If I still feel unwell later, I’ll ask you to take me to the hospital."
Hearing Song Qiao say this, Li couldn’t insist any further, so he nodded, opened the driver’s door, got in, and drove away.
Sitting in the car, Song Qiao’s gaze fell on the scenery gradually retreating outside, and she subconsciously placed her hand on her stomach.
Actually, she already knew what was going on with herself. She only started feeling different yesterday; it was still a bit hard for her to believe, even though all her reactions now pointed to pregnancy nausea. However, she hadn’t gone to a hospital for a checkup yet, so she wasn’t entirely sure if she was really pregnant.
She hadn’t told anyone, including Lu Jingchen, her grandfather, or Ning Wan...
She feared it would be a false alarm.
Originally, she intended to tell Lu Jingchen if she was sure, but seeing Lu Jingchen at the film set, specifically visiting Zuo Yuqing, she immediately dismissed that thought.
After all, she had plans to leave here now, and her marriage with Lu Jingchen was nearing its end.
Lu Tianming visited her yesterday and she remembered everything he said to her clearly.
Given her current status, she indeed didn’t fit in An City, didn’t fit with Lu Jingchen, and certainly wasn’t suitable to be the Young Mistress of the Lu Family.
Lu Tianming didn’t like artists, especially not women with an artist’s identity as the Young Mistress of the Lu Family. However, he made it clear yesterday that between her and Zuo Yuqing, he would prefer the latter.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped outside a café, and Song Qiao asked Li to wait outside while she went in alone.
Since this place was still considered the outskirts, besides some villa areas and a few neighborhoods, not many people came here, so at the moment, there were only a few people in the café.
The café’s décor was nice. Although it wasn’t as luxurious as those in the city center, nor as large, it was quite exquisite.
This café had been around for many years. Ning Wan and she used to come here on weekends when they were off work or didn’t have classes, spending entire afternoons here.
This time, the film set was less than a twenty-minute drive away, so she had Li bring her here by car.
She pushed open the glass door, and the bells on top jingled melodiously. The lady boss was at the counter doing accounts. Without looking up, she politely said, "Welcome."
Upon raising her head and seeing Song Qiao walking in, she was first stunned, then immediately broke into a delighted smile. "Why are you here? It’s been so long since you and Miss Ning came by, I thought you’d forgotten about my little café."
The lady boss looked to be around thirty years old, with wavy hair tied up, revealing a standard oval face. Her features weren’t extraordinarily beautiful, but delicate, at least to Song Qiao’s refined taste considered her a beauty.
Before, when Song Qiao and her friends frequented, they got to know the lady boss had opened the café after graduating and had been running it for years. Because of its location, the café’s income wasn’t high, but luckily, the place was owned by her parents, so she didn’t pay rent.
Song Qiao knew the lady boss had a beautiful name—Nan Huan, was twenty-eight, had a boyfriend who studied abroad, and after ending her first love, hadn’t dated again and remained single.
She also knew the lady boss was an author on a novel website, had published a few books, but that was just a hobby, so despite some fame, she mainly focused on running the café.
Walking up to the counter and looking at the lady boss, Song Qiao smiled and explained, "I’ve been busy at work, with so much going on, I haven’t had time to come here to enjoy your homemade pastries. Today, I happened to be nearby for some errands and stopped by to satisfy my cravings."
Nan Huan loved hearing this, set down her accounts, and cheerfully said, "That’s easy, if you’re craving them, I’ll make them now. Go have a seat and wait; they’ll be done soon... Oh, are you still drinking the coffee you and Miss Ning used to enjoy?"
Song Qiao thought for a moment, then shook her head. "I don’t want coffee today, make me a cup of hot milk, please. I haven’t eaten much this morning and I’m feeling hungry now."
"Sure." Nan Huan’s face never lost its smile, appearing completely carefree. "Go take a seat; standing can be tiring. One of my staff is on leave today, so it’s just me here, you may have to wait a little."
Song Qiao nodded, about to turn, but spoke, "Prepare two servings for me. A colleague is waiting outside, I’ll invite him in, and please prepare another to-go, also hot milk."
Nan Huan agreed and immediately turned to enter the kitchen.
Song Qiao found a seat by the window, took out her phone, and called Li to join her. She initially wanted to just buy and leave, but seeing Nan Huan made her want to sit and chat, and she realized she didn’t want to leave yet. She couldn’t leave Li waiting outside alone.
...
In the film set, after finishing her scenes, Song Xi left the shoot area and spotted Lu Jingchen sitting and chatting with Zuo Yuqing. She paused, instinctively looking for her sister. After scanning around, she didn’t see Song Qiao.
Assistant Xue came over with a snack and tea, facing Song Xi with a flawless smile. "Miss Song, these are treats and coffee our CEO bought to reward everyone, this is yours..."
Song Xi glanced at him, then at the treats and coffee, with no appetite, said, "No, thanks. I don’t like coffee or sweet desserts."
Assistant Xue’s smile froze; he was momentarily at a loss for words. Both sisters were the same, one the CEO’s wife, the other the wife’s half-sister, neither liked these... 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Soon, he felt stuck, uncertain about his reaction.
Song Xi ignored him, walking past without glancing at Lu Jingchen, then pulling a staff member aside, asked, "Have you seen my sister?"
The staff, halted by her query, looked back and recognized Song Xi, patiently nodded, explaining, "Your sister went out earlier, not sure where; maybe call her?"
Song Xi thanked him, went to the makeup room, found her bag, took out her phone, went through contacts, and dialed Song Qiao.
The phone rang until it hung up automatically, with no answer.
Song Xi’s expression darkened, she redialed a few times but still got no answer.
Suddenly, Song Xi felt a loss of direction.
Hearing footsteps behind, she turned and saw Lu Jingchen entering. The makeup room wasn’t large to begin with, his presence made it feel cramped.
Her lips moved, she finally called, "Brother-in-law."
But her tone and expression weren’t pleasant, perhaps due to seeing Lu Jingchen with Zuo Yuqing earlier, feeling it was a betrayal to her sister.
Suddenly, she didn’t quite like this man, especially knowing her sister wasn’t doing well these days, all because of him and his so-called ’god-sister’
Lu Jingchen acknowledged, scanning the makeup room, asking calmly, "Are you getting used to the filming?"
Song Xi, momentarily lost, finally replied after half a minute, "I’m adjusting, though tiring, the crew is amicable."
"Good." He nodded, continued, "How’s your sister doing lately?"
Song Xi paused, bewildered, clearly not understanding his question.
