The Billionaire's Hidden Affection-Chapter 440 - 437: Boisterously Happy Man Picking His Feet1_1
He nearly yelled, "What happened? What’s going on with my mom? And Xixi? Is she hurt?"
"Your mom is okay, and Yan Xixi only has minor injuries. They’re both largely fine."
"What exactly happened?"
"How could I possibly explain everything over the phone?"
"Dad, I’ll come back as soon as I can. Please, you have to handle this properly. Don’t hurt Xixi. Even if she did something wrong, please bear with her. She doesn’t have any family, while Mom at least has you and so many relatives and friends. But Xixi is all alone; she has no one to help her..."
"I know what I’m doing. Don’t worry. For now, I’ll keep things stable. We can talk more when you get back. Don’t rush..."
After hanging up, he immediately dialed Yan Xixi’s cellphone. Sure enough, just like the past few days, he only got a busy signal. Only then did he realize she wasn’t ignoring him because they’d had a falling out and she was giving him the cold shoulder. It was because something this serious had happened.
Huang Xiaojue’s father hadn’t called until several days after the incident. This was partly because he didn’t want his son to worry and partly because he was too ashamed to speak of it. Yan Xixi, meanwhile, had completely dropped off the radar.
Just when things seemed they couldn’t get worse, bad news arrived: "...Ladies and gentlemen, we regret to inform you that due to a strong typhoon making landfall, our flight has been delayed. The exact departure time is currently unknown..."
Huang Xiaojue was on the verge of losing it.
He rushed to the window, only to see dark, oppressive clouds looming over the airport as a torrential downpour raged.
How had the weather suddenly turned this awful? When on earth would the flight finally take off?
It was the most agonizing journey of his life.
In the lounge, an attendant asked attentively, "Sir, may I get you something to drink?"
Huang Xiaojue ordered a glass of red wine and guzzled it down.
His mind was a buzzing mess. What on earth had happened? He was already exhausted, but how could he possibly sleep, even if he closed his eyes? He felt like he was about to completely lose it.
An inexplicable sense of foreboding washed over him, as oppressive as the terrible weather. The fact that even the flight was delayed by it felt like an ill omen.
In his daze, the profound fear from years ago resurfaced. Back then, it had been the same. After her mother passed away from illness, she had simply vanished, leaving no trace or message. No matter how desperately he searched, no matter how much he suffered, she never reappeared.
Unwilling to give up, he dialed again, but it was still busy.
Then, it hit him. This is a blacklist. Xixi put me on her reject list! After that terrible fight with Mom, she cut off all contact. It’s happening all over again, just like last time.
His heart hammered against his ribs, his chest feeling as if it might tear apart.
Is this it? Am I going to lose her for good this time?
That was the quickest Yan Xixi had ever fallen asleep in her life.
She usually slept poorly and had suffered from chronic insomnia, but tonight, she sank into a deep slumber the moment she lay down. In her dream, she found herself standing on Yang Wei’s back, kicking him repeatedly... She woke up chuckling.
It was pitch dark around her. She turned on the light and found it wasn’t even four in the morning yet.
She roamed around her house in her pajamas, like a ghost.
Opening her closet, she saw three handbags—LV, Chanel, and Prada—all basic models, gifts from Huang Xiaojue. There was also a Chanel suit, a skirt, and the engagement ring, necklace, and earrings he had given her.
Especially the two-carat ring—it was beautiful.
Perhaps to the wealthy, it was insignificant, but it had once been her most prized possession.
