"I donβt know about the two of you, but it seems... the Church wants the Secret Society abolished." ππ£πππππππΌππ²πΉ.ππ π
Another moment of silence fell over the cabin, the window hinges creaking in the wind. Henrik didnβt even need to say it; they already knew. They werenβt stupid enough not to follow where the clues led.
Not long ago, the question of who would benefit the most if a fight broke out between the Bellemonte and the Order had crossed Lolaβs and Atlasβs minds.
Today, it seemed that the question had a clearer answer.
"Damn!" Lola hissed as she threw herself back into the chair, her expression filled with disbelief. "This feels like watching someone play chess on their own."
"This is yet to be confirmed," Atlas chimed in before they set everything in stone. "We canβt disregard the possibility that this is another setup. Just like how the Bellemontes were almost framed as a scapegoat, this could be another one."
"You think?" Henrik cocked his head. "I think this entire conspiracy may be orchestrated by those people from the High Divine Circle."
He leaned forward, clarifying in simpler terms. "If you waged war against me β as much as I hate to admit it β Iβd die. Thatβs for sure."
Much to his irritation, Lola and Atlas simply nodded. They didnβt even try to comfort him.
"Tsk." He clicked his tongue but didnβt dwell on it. "And in wars, the winning side would surely loot everything we have. Obviously, that would cause an imbalance of power, forcing the other two to act. They already donβt like you, so thatβs just a bonus."
He shrugged. "All Iβm saying is, the outcome of a fight between the Order and my House is obvious. On the other hand, a war between the Order and those two forces could vary."
"However," he continued, "whatβs certain is that, regardless of the victor, both sides would suffer heavy losses."
"Youβre saying the Church might join at the last minute and take us all down in one sweep?" Lola asked, only to hear Henrik make a dinging sound.
"Ding! Ding! You got it!" He raised a finger. "Thatβs why I said everything I said. No matter which angle I look at it, the outcome always leads me to that conclusion."
Of course, Henrik hadnβt wanted to entertain the idea at first. But he couldnβt keep ignoring or denying it.
"This isnβt just about the Secret Society," he said. "Itβs about my life, your lives, our families... our people. Itβs the countless lives that would be lost in such a meaningless fight that makes me angry."
Another silence settled between them as Henrik leaned closer, eyes fixed on Atlas.
"But above all, what confuses me most is... you," he hummed, drawing both Atlasβs and Lolaβs attention. "As I said, the project my beloved wife funded was shut down by the High Divine Circle. That alone proves that bitch is involved. Otherwise, the council wouldβve confronted me as the head of the Bellemonte family."
"But they didnβt. Instead, they shut it down on the exact same day your name was declared head of the Zorken family," he added. "I found that interesting β not just this, but every little detail."
He paused, brows raised. "It feels like... the High Divine Circle saw this coming."
Lola arched a brow, her gaze sliding to the corner where her husband sat.
Again, she remembered Slaterβs words about Atlasβs concern not long ago.
[Someone was trying to kill Atlas β in the first timeline and this one.]
Could it be... them?
Lola tore her gaze from Atlas, her brows tightening. Her mind drifted back to Ravah, to Vito, and then to Yuri.
Did Yuri end up discovering the Churchβs involvement?
Was that why she chose to go on this mission alone, without telling anyone? But Yuri hadnβt left any clue that tied the Church to the evidence she had found.
If anything, Yuri had been leading them somewhere else.
Even if Lola racked her brain, the location they suspected Yuri was currently in wasnβt under the Church. Most importantly, that country wasnβt influenced by the Church due to differences in religion.
Hang on...
Lola blinked rapidly as realization dawned.
If Yuri was in that place β or if Vito was there β was it possible they were actually hiding?
There were many possibilities, but for Lola, if Vito was there, he might be hiding from a force like the High Divine Circle. She didnβt know much about Yuri, but if Lola was right, Yuri might not be hiding β she might have gone somewhere the Circle couldnβt touch her.
But then again, Yuri had said she was abducted.
Lola pinched the bridge of her nose, her head throbbing as her thoughts spiraled. It was easy to conclude that the High Divine Circle was the enemy. But Henrik leaned toward that conclusion because he didnβt know about Yuri.
"I see," Atlas finally nodded, snapping Lola out of her thoughts. He kept his attention on Henrik. "Henrik, everything you found out... donβt let anyone know."
Henrik snorted. "You donβt have to talk to me like Iβm your underling." He stood, picked up his hat, and looked at Atlas.
"Since Ravah, Iβve felt like Iβve been banished to the cold palace, forced to work alone without help," he muttered as he walked away. "I donβt remember working this hard in my life."
Just like Atlas, Henrik couldnβt trust anyone in his own territory anymore. On top of the threats from his wife and her faction, he was close to being overthrown.
"Henrik."
Henrik stopped at Atlasβs call. Atlas remained seated, looking at him.
"Do not die," Atlas said in his usual flat tone, but Henrikβs lips curled upward.
Slowly, Henrik glanced back and scoffed. "You donβt have to say that," he quipped as he continued walking. "Take care of my son. Iβll take him back once I kill that bitch and every single supporter she has."
"I left you a gift," Atlas added just as Henrik was about to step out. "Youβll get it on your way back."
Henrik glanced back, nodded, and left without another word.
Meanwhile, Lola and Atlas stared at the door, their minds drifting in different directions.
Their silence was short-lived when Atlas felt his phone vibrate. Taking it out, he frowned slightly and glanced at Lola.
"Itβs Zoren," he said. She nodded, and he answered.
Atlas said nothing, simply listening to his brother-in-law.
Then, very slowly, his eyes sharpened.
"Got it."
