Chapter 485: Chapter 486: The Final Struggle

"According to the judgment of professional psychiatrists, Sabrina Johnson was completely unable to control her actions during her psychotic episode, making her a person with no legal capacity due to her mental illness.

For Sabrina Johnson, the victim Rosalina was the mistress who ruined her family and stole her husband. At the time, Rosalina was pregnant with Frederick Stewart’s child, which further triggered Sabrina’s psychosis, leading to the psychotic episode and the uncontrollable actions she committed."

The judge carefully looked over the report, handed it to the jury, and said, "I propose a thirty-minute recess."

Sienna Johnson was so angry she wanted to kill someone, and Pauline Briggs cursed out loud, "Bullshit! She’s mentally ill? I raised her all these years; she’s just a two-faced, venomous person! She doesn’t have a mental illness; she has a diseased conscience!"

"..."

"What the hell is going on with you, Judge? Why haven’t you sentenced Sabrina Johnson to death? Are you in league with her?" Pauline Briggs demanded, her outrage now directed at the judge.

Reporters swarmed, taking pictures of Pauline Briggs. Some, eager to stir up trouble, asked, "Madam Johnson, why do you say the judge is in cahoots with Sabrina Johnson? Do you have any evidence?"

Sienna Johnson suppressed her anger, comforting her mother while explaining to the reporters, "Please don’t misunderstand my mother’s words; she’s just extremely upset."

The judge, his face stern and solemn, said nothing.

Everyone stood up. Sabrina Johnson, escorted by two security guards, was led towards the detention room.

Before leaving, Sabrina Johnson glanced at Sienna Johnson. Sienna Johnson’s fury pleased Sabrina Johnson’s twisted psyche; she gave Sienna Johnson a secret, smug, and defiant smile.

Pauline Briggs broke down. "How can Sabrina Johnson be so shameless, so utterly devoid of decency?"

"Calm down, the reporters are still here," Sienna Johnson reminded her.

Adrian Desmond lightly patted Sienna Johnson’s hand. He noticed her hands were ice-cold and her body was rigid as she stared fiercely in the direction Sabrina Johnson had disappeared.

"Sienna, what do we do now?" Pauline Briggs asked her daughter helplessly.

"Let’s wait and see!"

In a room at the courthouse, Sabrina Johnson sat facing the man in the police uniform, her gaze fixed on him icily.

"Miss Johnson, I work for Mr. Lincoln."

The man slid a file across to her, opened it, and explained, "This is your psychiatric assessment report. Take a look."

"..."

"If all goes as planned, you will be transferred to Sileria City Psychiatric Hospital for compulsory treatment."

"So this is your brilliant idea of saving me? Letting the whole world know I’m mentally ill? That I’m a lunatic?"

Sabrina Johnson didn’t even glance at the file, thoroughly dissatisfied with this outcome.

"What do you want then?" the man asked with a sarcastic shrug.

Sabrina Johnson stared at him coldly. "Isn’t Mr. Lincoln supposed to be very powerful? I want to be acquitted!"

The man laughed, his smile mocking. "Your case has caused too much of a stir, and the evidence is irrefutable. Acquittal is impossible!"

"That’s not what Mr. Lincoln promised me!" Sabrina Johnson snapped.

"Staying in a psychiatric hospital is better than jail. For your crimes, a sentence of twenty to thirty years would be easy to get. Twenty or thirty years! You’d spend the rest of your life in prison. So, I advise you to go to the psychiatric hospital cooperatively. After all, there’s still some hope there. Mental illness isn’t a terminal disease; it can be treated. Once you’re cured, you could be released..."

Sabrina Johnson’s gaze shifted to the window. Iron bars bisected the view of the blue sky and white clouds outside, marring the beauty of the scene and symbolizing her ruined life.

Ultimately, faced with reality, Sabrina Johnson compromised.

She knew she was being unreasonable. Sienna Johnson had pushed her to the brink, leaving her no way out.

She lowered her eyes to the file before her, reading it page by page, slowly coming to accept the fact that she was a psychiatric patient.

"Have you finished reading?"

"Yes."

The man’s expression turned serious. "During the trial, I will try to keep the proceedings brief. As for you, now that you are a psychiatric patient, I expect you to act more like one."

"Am I supposed to bite someone’s ear off?"

"..."

"Then can I bite off Sienna Johnson’s ear?" Sabrina Johnson asked manically.

The man gathered the file. "The court won’t give you a chance to harm anyone. Just maintain your hysterical state."

Sue White and Herbert Young were both present.

Pauline Briggs was overwrought, crying ceaselessly and cursing Sabrina Johnson. As a woman of refined upbringing, Pauline Briggs had little experience with vulgar tirades, so her vocabulary of insults was limited, and she found herself repeating the same few phrases.

Sue White said, "Sabrina Johnson is charged with two counts of intentional homicide. If she wants to evade legal punishment, she must prove she also had mental issues when she killed your father."

Sienna Johnson chimed in, "Since she was able to produce that psychiatric assessment report, it means she has a backup plan. If I’m not mistaken, that report must be dated from before she murdered my father."

"What, can she see the future?" Sue White commented sarcastically.

"..."

Sue White asked, "Lawyer Young, what’s your take on this?"

Herbert Young rubbed his chin, frowning. "We just need to prove Sabrina Johnson is mentally sound; that should be sufficient."

"Sienna, we can apply to the court for a re-evaluation of Sabrina Johnson’s mental state. I refuse to believe she has any mental issues," Sue White said.

"She definitely doesn’t have any mental problems!" Pauline Briggs stated firmly.

Sienna Johnson asked, "Can you get a copy of the psychiatric assessment report that was just submitted?"

Herbert Young said, "Mr. Ryans, today’s prosecutor, is a friend of mine. I’ll ask him if he can discreetly get me a copy."

Herbert Young didn’t contact Mr. Ryans directly but reached out by phone.

Eventually, Herbert Young managed to get a photocopy of the report.

When Sienna Johnson saw the signature and date on the assessment report, she was stunned.

April 2011!

Sabrina Johnson and Frederick Stewart had murdered Dexter Johnson in May 2012.

If this report is real, I’ll cut off my own head and kick it like a ball!

"Sienna, what do we do now?" Pauline Briggs asked, utterly bewildered.

"Xenon Lewis, a domestic expert in mental illness..." Sienna Johnson murmured, recalling the information about Xenon Lewis she had just found on her phone.

Xenon Lewis was the doctor who had prepared this psychiatric assessment report for Sabrina Johnson.
