The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 476 - 477: Absorbing New Members
"You know Reggie Dewey?" Sienna was surprised that the two knew each other and looked at the man in front of her.
Sienna had a vivid memory of Reggie Dewey, largely due to an inspection trip to Eastminster Pharmaceutical Factory. During that visit, Reggie Dewey had volunteered, insisting on spearheading the research and development of medication for infectious diseases. Later, Reggie Dewey had also provided her with a detailed market research report, a feasibility analysis, and a report outlining the significant profits anticipated upon successful research and development. Sienna recognized the business opportunity in this and had agreed to Reggie Dewey’s proposal.
Currently, the research and development team was short-staffed, a problem that had been weighing on Sienna’s mind. Unexpectedly, someone had appeared, seemingly offering a solution.
Sienna carefully examined Russell Austin, inwardly weighing her options, then asked, "And you? Are you willing?"
Russell Austin quickly came to his senses and said, "Yes! Of course, I’m willing! The focus of my graduate thesis was on the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases."
Speaking of his research field, Russell Austin launched into an enthusiastic and highly professional explanation. "In recent years, infectious diseases have shown a high incidence rate. With the increasing mobility of the global population, these diseases have become a global concern. An outbreak would be a worldwide disaster. Infectious diseases have always been a major impediment to societal development, threatening human lives and property. Large-scale global pandemics, due to their particular destructive potential, have garnered widespread international attention. If we could develop a medication tailored to the characteristics of infectious diseases... much like the invention of penicillin, it would represent a groundbreaking advancement..."
Sienna listened patiently without interrupting. Russell Austin grew increasingly animated as he spoke, continuing for over ten minutes before finally pausing.
"...I’m sorry, I seem to have gotten carried away," Russell Austin said, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment.
Sienna smiled. "When would you be able to start at Eastminster Pharmaceutical Factory?"
Russell didn’t answer immediately. A flicker of conflict crossed his face—the look of someone grappling with a significant temptation. After a long pause, he finally asked, "President Johnson, would you be willing to help my girlfriend get revenge?"
Neve Harris, not wanting to hinder her boyfriend’s prospects and seeing what a rare opportunity this was, said, "If you work at Eastminster Pharmaceutical Factory, I can still get my revenge."
Sienna had her own calculations. Sabrina Johnson and Yvette Harris were too close. Even if she managed to oust Sabrina, leaving Yvette Harris in place would mean Sienna couldn’t rest easy. It would be better to do them this favor, especially since it aligned with her own goals. Thus, Sienna promised, "Alright, I can help you get your revenge."
"President Johnson, really? You’re really willing?" Neve Harris asked, her voice filled with excitement.
"Of course. However, I can’t make any guarantees. I can only tell you that I’ll do my best."
"President Johnson, thank you!"
Russell Austin, more pragmatic than Neve Harris, asked, "President Johnson, what will this help cost us?"
There’s no such thing as a free lunch, Russell Austin thought. He didn’t believe Sienna Johnson would help them for no reason, especially since they were neither friends nor family.
"If you still follow the pharmaceutical industry, you should know that Eastminster Pharmaceutical Factory hasn’t achieved much since changing its manager. The R&D team’s weak capabilities are hindering the factory’s long-term development. I am in dire need of people with strong R&D skills! As for what I want in return? Since this is your area of expertise, join the R&D team at Eastminster Pharmaceutical Factory. Work with Reggie Dewey to develop a highly effective drug for treating infectious diseases."
Russell Austin, his excitement palpable, said, "Thank you, President Johnson. I will definitely work hard."
Neve Harris and Russell Austin had waited at the Johnson residence for an entire afternoon. They had grown restless and agitated, suspecting Sienna Johnson was deliberately making things difficult and had no intention of seeing them. Neve had even considered leaving. She never expected that Sienna would not only help her get revenge but also find such an excellent job for Russell.
"President Johnson, thank you so much."
Sienna looked at the ill-fated young couple with a touch of pity; her heart had softened. Truthfully, after only a brief meeting, she didn’t know the man before her well, nor was she aware of his actual capabilities. She simply saw their hardship and wanted to lend them a hand.
Sienna then asked Neve, "And you? What kind of work do you do?"
Neve Harris answered frankly, "My education level isn’t very high, so I usually just do odd jobs... handing out flyers, temporary work, things like that..."
Russell Austin took his girlfriend’s hand and said rather brazenly, "President Johnson, although my girlfriend doesn’t have a high level of education, she’s pretty, has a good personality, and is hardworking and conscientious. Do you think you could help her find a more stable job?"
Neve Harris quickly interjected, "President Johnson, please don’t listen to him. My current job is fine; there’s no need to trouble yourself."
"Carrying bricks on a construction site? How is that ’fine’? Look at your hands! Do those look like a young woman’s hands?"
Neve Harris looked down, embarrassed, and tucked her hands behind her back. "No, that’s not... I was just helping a friend out. It was only for one day," she explained.
"If you’re willing, you can work as a receptionist at Eastminster Group. It doesn’t require a high level of education or prior work experience. The main duties involve guest reception, so you’ll need to be patient, approachable, and conscientious."
Russell Austin said, "Then, on Neve’s behalf, thank you, President Johnson."
Neve Harris was stunned that Sienna Johnson would help them to such an extent—not only aiding their revenge but also resolving both their employment situations. For a moment, she was at a loss for words.
"President Johnson, thank you," Neve finally managed, her voice sincere.
"Work hard. Life is a series of trials. If you persevere through them, you’ll find that a new and brighter path will open up before you."
As Russell Austin and Neve Harris walked out hand in hand, they saw a tall man standing by the door. He exuded a cold aura, his slightly narrowed eyes scrutinizing them intently. When his gaze met Russell’s, a shiver ran down Russell’s spine. This man was no ordinary person; he possessed the chilling, authoritative aura of someone long accustomed to a position of power.
"Hello," Russell Austin greeted Adrian Desmond with a polite smile.
Adrian Desmond nodded and pushed the door open, walking inside.
Neve Harris, somewhat intimidated by the man, shrank behind Russell Austin, her head bowed, not daring to meet his gaze.
Russell Austin gave her hand a reassuring pat, and the two of them left the Johnson residence, content.
In the reception room, Sienna Johnson sat lost in thought. Adrian Desmond’s footsteps were so light that he reached her side without her noticing.
"What are you thinking about so intently?" Adrian asked, his voice gentle.
Sienna Johnson looked up, saw Adrian Desmond, and asked, "Have they left?"
"Yes, they’ve gone."
"What was your impression of them?" Sienna Johnson asked.
"Do you want the truth, or should I be diplomatic?"
"The truth, of course."
Adrian Desmond sat down beside her. "That man, Russell Austin," he began slowly, "is very cunning. Every word, every sentence he uttered, was perfectly calculated to prey on your sympathies. And you, rather naively, walked right into his trap."
