Chapter 68: Ch 68: What will you do?

"Hmm...cut. This should be good enough. We can move on to the next shoot now."

The director’s voice carried a note of rare satisfaction.

The director called out, and everyone let out a sigh of relief as they slowly made progress. Noah was starting to calm down as well and get in the mood to shoot.

Some of the staff even exchanged impressed looks.

Despite having no training, he was doing far too well at this shoot...almost as if he had been born to take the stage. The more I watched this, the happier I felt.

It was impossible to ignore how naturally the cameras gravitated toward him.

"Miss Jenna, Mister Black, where did you find this hidden gem? I have never seen our director so pleased with a rookie before. Is that kid even a rookie? You did not pick up an idol trainee, right?"

The director’s assistant asked us in a joking voice. His tone held genuine curiosity beneath the humor.

"Of course not. This time...the gods were on our side and gave me such good fortune. They must have wanted this kid to succeed as well."

I joked back, earning a small laugh from the people around me (and an almost-jealous scoff from Damian).

Since the director was happy, everyone else on the set was happy as well. This shoot seemed to be closing in without much problem.

The atmosphere was relaxed for the first time that day.

But somehow, I had a bad feeling that something was going to happen. We needed to wrap this shoot soon.

That uneasy feeling refused to leave me.

"Director, how long do we—"

I called out to the director, only to have my voice be cut off by loud conversations from the people around me.

The sudden noise snapped everyone’s attention away from the set.

"Hey, isn’t that Iris—?"

"That top model Iris? What’s she doing here?"

"Maybe it’s a cosplayer? Surely a top model like her can’t be here..."

Iris...now that was a familiar name.

My jaw tightened the moment I heard it.

She used to be a top model under me when I was still heading Hervour Industries. She was one of the unfortunate kids I had decided to help out, and she just happened to have a talent for acting.

I had not expected to see her here of all places.

And now she had made it to the top. However, that still begged the question—what was she doing here now?

This was not a coincidence.

The woman everyone had been in an uproar over quickly walked onto the set, and her eyes immediately looked around before they fell on the director and the producer. She wasted no time walking over to them, her heels making a clicking noise with every step.

Each step drew more attention.

Before she could reach the director, I decided to stand in her way and block her.

I was not about to let this spiral out of control.

"Miss Iris, do you have a reason to be on our shooting set? If not, then please leave. You are causing a disturbance."

I told her, and her attention immediately shifted toward me. Various emotions fluttered across her face before she forced it to become blank and expressionless.

Recognition flashed through her eyes.

"This has nothing to do with you, miss. I just need to have a serious talk with this director, that’s all. If you would please give me some space..."

Iris was polite, but she was also not willing to take no for an answer. Something in me told me not to let her do as she pleased.

Her tone was calm, but her intent was not.

So, despite her warning for me to step aside, I did not do that and continued to stand in her way.

Several staff members froze, unsure of how to react.

"I would still like to know why you are here first. I am the one who arranged this set, and these people are also my responsibility to look after. So I can’t let you do as you please with them."

Anger flashed across Iris’s face for a second before she forcefully suppressed it. I knew she was a prideful person, but I was not going to allow her to cause a problem for me or my people.

Her jaw clenched tightly.

She took a deep breath before giving me a look.

Her patience was thinning.

"Miss, it would not be wise of you to make an enemy of me. I am just here to talk to the director about his promise to me. He promised me that I would be the focus of his next project. I just want him to keep his promise."

Iris was stubborn, and she tried to turn this whole thing around on the director.

She was clearly used to getting her way.

The director immediately defended himself against the accusation.

Sweat formed along his hairline.

"Miss Iris, I promised to cast you in any project that came into my hands next. Unfortunately, this one was arranged by Mister Black and has a fixed concept. You might have to wait a little longer. Besides, don’t you have a stacked schedule?"

The director asked Iris, but her expression did not change one bit. It made me feel like I was watching a rehearsed drama unfold...at least from Iris’s side.

"Fixed concept or not, Director, this is about your promise and how you are not keeping it. Please, do think of your future and whom you are making an enemy out of today."

Despite the lightness of her words, there was no mistaking the threat being made.

I was starting to feel irritated with Iris...so naturally, Damian was as well. His patience had clearly run out.

Damian gave my shoulder a squeeze before stepping forward and walking toward the director and Miss Iris. His presence alone shifted the balance.

"I am the one who organized this event. Do you have a problem with that, Miss Iris? If so, then I can make it so that you never have a problem again in your life."

That was a threat. The look on Damian’s face told me he was serious about it as well. No one doubted him.

Iris sensed the danger, because she immediately tensed and turned toward him. She tried to flash her pretty smile, but realized she had failed when Damian paid her no attention.

For the first time, uncertainty crept into her eyes.
