Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Thank you, I have already met him

"Thank you."

The villa Zhao Yaru lived in before her death was located in the suburbs, and after leaving the city center, the traffic became much smoother.

When the driver stopped the car at the gate and Qin Muni paid the fare and gave the driver a tip while preparing to get off, the driver turned around and sincerely said to her, "Sweetheart, don’t lose heart. Life will make up for you by letting you meet a good man who loves you. I wish you happiness."

Qin Muni placed her hand on the door, and when she heard the driver’s words, she turned back and smiled at him, "Thank you, I have already met him. I wish you happiness too, goodbye."

After thanking the driver, who was an utter stranger yet extremely warm and sincere, Qin Muni opened the car door and got off. She looked up at the luxurious and exquisite villa in front of her, then lifted her leg and walked to the front door to ring the doorbell.

A gentle female voice came through the intercom, asking in English, "Who is this?"

"Hello, I am Qin Muni. I am here to see Mr. Zhang."

"Please come in."

The iron gate opened automatically. From the gate to the house, there was a front yard with various flowers planted. In the midsummer season, the flowers bathed in the sunlight, occasionally swaying gently in the breeze, and as they moved, a rich fragrance spread through the air.

Qin Muni followed the pebble path to the front of the house. The woman from the intercom had already opened the door and was standing there to welcome her.

When Qin Muni reached the entrance, the woman gave her a friendly smile, saying, "Hello, Miss Qin. Mr. Zhang is already waiting for you in the living room. Please follow me."

"Okay, thank you."

"You’re welcome."

Qin Muni followed the woman into the living room. Zhang Chufeng was sitting on the sofa, holding a tablet and seemingly engrossed in what he was reading, his brows slightly furrowed with an unpleasant expression.

"Mr. Zhang, Miss Qin is here."

On hearing the maid’s voice, Zhang Chufeng returned to his senses and placed the tablet aside. He looked up at Qin Muni, smiling slightly, and gestured to the large sofa on the side, "Please sit."

Qin Muni nodded, walked around the coffee table, and sat on the large sofa. As soon as she sat down, she heard Zhang Chufeng ask, "Would you like something to drink?"

"No, thank you."

"Okay." Zhang Chufeng waved his hand to the maid, signaling that she was not needed anymore and could leave.

The maid nodded and turned to leave.

"Thank you for coming. I think if she were still alive, knowing you’ve come would make her very happy."

Qin Muni knew that the ’she’ Zhang Chufeng referred to was the recently deceased Zhao Yaru.

"Is that so?" Qin Muni replied absentmindedly, her tone inadvertently revealing a slightly bitter smile.

Zhang Chufeng knew what Qin Muni was thinking. A woman who abandoned her for over a decade, and now, a decade later, finally appeared only to ask for her help for a stepson with no blood relationship—would she be happy that she came to attend her funeral?

"She changed a lot after undergoing chemotherapy and often mentioned you in front of me."

Qin Muni did not respond, her slightly curved lips showed some suspicion as she looked at Zhang Chufeng.

"I know that she missed you a lot in the time before her death, so I suggested contacting you to go overseas to see her. But she said she had no face to see you, that she felt sorry for you."

Qin Muni slightly lowered her eyelids, no longer looking at Zhang Chufeng’s face, unsure whether to believe what he was telling her.

"Each day after her chemotherapy seemed to be spent in pain. A few days before her death, she even begged me to increase her pain medication. In these last couple of days, as I’ve been sitting in a daze, I’ve thought maybe leaving so peacefully was a good thing for her."
