The Alpha's Forsaken Feisty Mate-Chapter 64: Reminder to stay alive
Radulf’s entire body turned on a fire in Zenna’s embrace. He didn’t wish her to find out about this, but his restraint finally broke and he pulled himself away only to find Zenna was asleep.
A wry laugh escaped his mouth and he quickly got off the bed. He needed a cold shower to get rid of this burn. "Why did I even come to her?" Radulf mumbled in frustration and left the chamber.
Getting a release in the cold shower, he lay on the recliner, fixing the bathrobe around him. He recalled Zenna’s words which she uttered before drifting off to sleep. "She shouldn’t apologize to me. All this time I have blamed her for the wrong that happened with him," he murmured and leaned his head back, closing his eyes.
The morning rays of the sun slipped between the gaps of the curtains hanging on the window and fell upon his face. Radulf’s eyelids moved and he took into his surroundings. He groaned in pain, his muscles tightening because he slept on the recliner the entire night.
As he sat up straight, he yawned and rubbed his eyes. "Last night was insane. I got hard just with her touch. Fuck. I don’t even like her and all this is happening to me. This is not right," he told himself.
"Radulf, good morning!" Zenna’s voice boomed through the door as she pushed them open and he promptly turned his head to look at her. "Did you come here early in the morning?" she asked while taking the tray from Pia. She gestured to Pia to leave them and made way to Radulf.
"I left last night after you fell asleep," Radulf said.
The smile from Zenna’s lips faltered to hear that. "Oh! I thought you left my side in the morning," she murmured. "Did you freshen up yet? I brought tea for us."
Zenna turned to him after setting the tray on the table.
"Not yet. I woke up late. I don’t drink tea," Radulf said.
"Huh? Why?" Zenna found it something new. "I always brew herbal tea for myself. You should give it a try too," she suggested.
"I like to drink wine in the morning," Radulf said and brushed past her.
"Are you insane? Why do you drink the wine in the morning?" Zenna promptly pivoted on her heels only to find he had disappeared from her sight. She looked around Radulf’s bedchamber. After that night only today, she set a foot here. She checked the cupboards, which were filled with his clothes and other accessories.
Zenna made her way out and asked Pia, "Please ask Savio to see me."
Pia bowed and rushed out to bring Savio.
"I think something is bothering Radulf. That’s why he drinks in the morning. Is it because of his past?" Zenna murmured as she paced in the outer chamber in worry.
It didn’t take long for Savio to come and see Zenna.
"Luna, good morning," Savio greeted her, bowing to her slightly. As he lifted his head, he saw concern etching on her face. "Is everything alright?" he asked.
"Why does Radulf drink wine in the morning? How long has he been doing this?" Zenna inquired with worry.
"Ah, Luna, as per my knowledge the Alpha started drinking recently. And you are the reason behind it," Savio truthfully revealed to her.
"I am the reason!?" Zenna was shocked to learn that.
"Yes, that’s what the Alpha told me last time I complained to him," Savio asserted.
"But what did I do?" Zenna asked confusedly, having no idea how badly she affected Radulf.
"You are Alpha Radulf’s mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess. He doesn’t have feelings for you, but the mate bond makes it hard for him to get away from you. That’s why to keep himself in check, he uses such methods," Savio explained to her.
"Luna, please don’t tell him about it. He might throw a fit about it in front of me. I would suggest the luna to get closer to the alpha and start clearing the misunderstandings between each other," he advised.
Zenna’s gaze softened and she curled her fingers.
Getting no response from her, Savio further said, "I know Radulf has hurt you, broke your heart. But I’m his childhood friend. I have seen him growing into a fine man. I tried making him understand to let go of the past, but he isn’t. I am sure you are also aware of the reason behind that."
Zenna nodded her head. "Yes, I know. My father changed the entire meaning of his life in a single day. He witnessed the brutality of my father. I understand his hatred now."
"Don’t forgive him easily, Zenna," Savio stated with a smile. "I hope you don’t mind me calling your name," he added.
"Huh?" Zenna mused. "No, I don’t mind," she answered to his second question.
"I want you to make him crave for your love. Radulf has forgotten to love. When you were being punished in the palace, Radulf felt the pain too. His back had faint marks of lashes. Leaving his work, he ran right to you, to save you. So, he does understand the injustices you’ve suffered too. But I won’t defend him. He hasn’t been a good husband to you so far," Savio stated, revealing a lot of things to her.
Zenna was shocked to learn that. "Savio, how did Radulf survive four years in the war? Did he ever mention me?"
"I’m afraid, but he never mentioned you. However, he would look at his ring sometimes. He didn’t remove it for some reason. When I asked him he said it was a reminder for him to stay alive," Savio replied.
Zenna recalled she had already discarded her ring in the lake that night.
"Thank you for being truthful to me. Radulf never shares anything with me. You’ve given me a hope that I should truly work on this marriage. I have stopped after what happened between me and Radulf," Zenna expressed her gratitude with a small smile.
"It is my pleasure to serve you, Luna," Savio said. He bowed and took his leave since he had an important matter to look into.
