The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 244: Oldest and Truest Rule ()
The horrific sight finally settled, only put to an end by the intervention of the council vampires and the entire dungeon had now descended into pin drop silence.
At this moment, the cell that was previously occupied by the three rogues was now doused in blood and mutilated body parts lay everywhere.
There was only one corpse left intact and it was that of the rogue that had turned forsaken and was finally killed by the council vampires.
The other two rogues had unfortunately been victims of the forsaken rampage and the sight left behind was so gory and nauseating that no one dared speak a word.
Even Queen Sancia was now as pale as a ghost and she could only stare in horror.
It took a long moment before Zariah could finally muster the words to break the silence.
"Askel...does he, know?" Zariah asked in a tone of dismay.
Her heart ached terribly and the only thought that reeled through her mind at this moment was one;
’What exactly had Askel’s fate been in the previous lifetime?’
Zariah did not need to wonder, from all indications, Askel had not had a much better fate than she did.
"He witnessed the first experiment for himself. Hence..." Lord Kodin trailed off.
He did not need to complete his words for Zariah to know what came next. Askel had witnessed what his blood could do to others, and that was why he was so dejected and defeated.
Lord Kodin let the silence tarry for another short moment, giving them the time to fully process what they had just witnessed before he spoke again.
"It was hard for the council itself to accept, so I know that I would not be able to understand how hard this must be for each one of you..." Lord Kodin began in a regretful tone.
"I am certain we can all already conclude on this, but I shall still state it. Askel is now tagged a high case risk and until his condition is well understood, he will remain in the custody of the supernatural council and will never be permitted to return to his duties as Alpha King."
"The supernatural council has deliberated and unanimously decided Askel will be taken back to our headquarters where he will be placed under close guard as well as... observed, to identify the circumstances surrounding his condition." Lord Kodin continued, passing Zariah a sympathetic look.
Zariah was stumped for words, she could hardly come up with a statement to counter Lord Kodin’s decisions, not after what she had just witnessed and it seemed Lucas, Declan and even Queen Sancia were in much the same position.
"This is to say that he will be isolated from all living beings that could possibly fall victim to be turned, until we figure out a solution." Lord Kodin clarified, his gaze moved from one to the other, often lingering on Zariah.
"And what is the possibility...of a solution?" Lucas was the first to break the silence this time.
Lord Kodin heaved a quiet sigh, and Lucas winced visibly, that was enough of an answer.
"We will not contemplate extreme possibilities just yet. At this point, the council can only promise that we will spare no resources to make this end in the most positive result that is possible." Lord Kodin vowed solemnly.
Zariah sucked in a deep breath, and then she exhaled shakily but that did nothing to ease the tight feeling in her chest.
"Askel has kept his silence on any explanations regarding this situation, and his experience with this ’beast’ within him. That is another reason that I have invited you all here."
"It is time for the interrogation to expand to Askel’s closest and most trusted. For the time being, each of you will be under close watch and you are not allowed to leave Royal Lycan territory for any reason. You are also to refrain from contacting anyone that is not directly related to the situation." Lord Kodin instructed.
"I will expect that on approach by my council members, each of you will provide a truthful and most detailed recount of all you know of this... and as far back as the signs began. As well as support the supernatural council’s investigation to the best of your ability from this moment until we leave Royal Lycan territory with Askel." Lord Kodin stated firmly.
"Zariah... Askel has told me you only discovered his condition recently and as such, you are exempt from this interrogation." Lord Kodin said, ignoring Queen Sancia’s scoff, he carried on.
"However, since you are here, there is another pressing issue that must be discussed and you are in the right position to contribute." Lord Kodin said meaningfully.
"The... Ethereal throne..." Zariah guessed in a pained tone.
Lord Kodin nodded slowly, his gaze sympathetic.
"We have acquired irrefutable evidence that Askel had no hand in the rogue killings, and this is owed to the evidence gathered by the Crimson wolves and the Royal Lycans. At this moment, some council members are on the trail of the demon behind the killings... however, this does nothing to absolve Askel of his crimes."
"Askel’s rampage was witnessed by many eyes, as much as we have tried to keep the rumors under control, his condition is already in the eyes of the public. The entire supernatural realm and particularly the Royal Lycans await an explanation as we speak and the supernatural council is duty bound to provide it."
"We cannot keep our findings hidden and one thing is certain, Askel cannot retain his status as Alpha King or ever return to that position." Lord Kodin stated the facts.
"But..." Declan began to argue but trailed off, there was no logical argument at this point.
"This is not fair...it just isn’t!" Lucas hissed furiously.
"I understand your reservations, but the supernatural realm is currently in a precarious situation. We cannot afford to have a domain without a monarch for a prolonged period, not at this time. Many eyes are fixed on the Ethereal domain... the peace accords are also in motion..." Lord Kodin paused briefly.
"For the greater good, we must see to it that a worthy successor takes Askel’s place as soon as possible. The supernatural council will make the declarations by dawn...with no royal heirs left, the Ethereal throne and the title of Alpha King is now up for challenge."
"He whom the Creator deems fit will emerge the winner, this is the oldest and truest rule of the Lycans." Lord Kodin said.
