Chapter 37: Hangover

Athen wasn’t stupid or spoiled enough to believe that every student in the school got the same amazing room as Kai.

The room meant for Ren was probably a lot worse than this one, considering Kai was ranked within the top ten.

Anyway, Athen was used to living in small and confined spaces, so sharing the already massive room with Kai wouldn’t hurt.

And although they were both using each other, Athen still felt bad for lying to the first person to help him.

Eventually...he would have to come clean.

After hearing Athen’s words, Kai’s expression immediately transformed from grim to a grin as he turned around and walked back toward the living room.

Finally, Athen succumbed to his curiosity and climbed the ladder up to the loft, immediately spotting a massive king-sized bed.

On both sides of the bed were nightstands with reading lights, and most eye-catching of all, there was...a table full of snacks.

As he lay down on his bed, Athen was thankful that it was laid out horizontally so that it was facing a wall instead of the massive window.

Although he liked the view, sleeping while staring out into the pitch-black night sky might bring back some...bad memories.

"What was that anyway...?"

Racking his brain, Athen remembered that it all started when he was hanging from a tree with several spiritual figures below him, and then there had been a sudden crack in the sky.

Consequently, Athen’s body had become frozen, causing him to be sucked up into that crack in the sky.

Then, he had been trapped in a pitch-black void with his whole body still frozen and unable to move.

"the...particle, I touched it."

After touching the particles, he suddenly possessed other peoples’ bodies and was forced to spectate their lives..? Or whatever that was.

Opening one of the drawers on his nightstand, Athen pulled out a notebook and began writing, afraid he would forget details later on.

Surely, whatever he saw had to be somewhat significant.

---

[Body 1]

I possessed an old man. (very old with a beard and a lot of scars and wounds + on the brink of dying)

Was fighting a...winged monster? (hated me + ...called humans extinct [No Proof] )

The background was as if the world was ending, and there were corpses. No, a lot of corpses. [Can assume the end of the world-like scenario]

Lava and destruction were everywhere, and no humans besides me were in sight. (all died?)

His name was... Timeless?

[Body 2]

I became father...?

At first, the body was on a farm playing hide and seek with his child and wife. (very nice with fields of lush grass)

This time, the body was much younger. (around mid-thirties + decent facial features)

The world became colorless with no sun...and the house disappeared.

He gave up and lost??? [Passing on Torch?] [half-way??] <--- what does that mean??

Name: Aktaio [Wife called him this] / Timeless??? [He called himself Timeless] ( again?)

Alice = Aliki (wife) ??? [Same Hair + Eyes but personalities different]

---

Staring at his writing on the paper in front of him, Athen quickly turned around and made sure Kai wasn’t watching him.

Letting out a dry cough, he continued writing a couple seconds later.

[Body 3]

In a war camp with hundreds of tents. (Lots of humans in sight + everyone in uniforms)

Name: Timeless...? (Called himself this...)

Dead silver-haired body in front of me = ...? (Delphi?) [Same Hair]

Do I have to keep her safe???

"next time?" Does he have multiple lives??

...Scar on dead person’s stomach.

---

Staring at all the things he had managed to remember from last night and write down, Athen’s head started aching.

In 2...no 1.5 of the bodies, the situation had been terrible with no humans or civilization in sight.

Each of the bodies Athen possessed was of a different age and was in a completely different setting.

Did all these situations take place at the same time...or at different times?

Was this the past...or future he was looking at?

Who were these people and that winged figure attacking him?

There were an infinite number of differences between all the other bodies he possessed, but there was only one similarity.

"...Timeless?"

Despite spending the least time in the last body and only seeing a camp around, the third body has perhaps given Athen the most information.

Athen could clearly recall the words "Next time" coming out of the third body’s mouth.

Different ages...drastically different situations, yet they all had the same name.

---

A Regressor

---

The name "Timeless" even fits in perfectly with the idea that Athens possessed a regressor as regressors are quite literally free from the restraints of time.

However, there was still one very important question remaining in Athens’s mind:

"How is this at all connected to me!?"

After possessing the third body, Athen remembered sprinting through the pitch-black void as countless screens appeared around him.

All those screens said one thing.

"Timeless."

But...that was all Athen could remember.

Mid-sprint, he had suddenly blacked out, and then, in the next second, he was sitting atop a tree branch with the invitation diamond in front of him.

"Well...I do have the power to stop time...and I already did regress once."

Although it had only happened once, Athen had regressed when the security guards had cornered him on the ship after Alice found out he wasn’t Kai.

"So...I’m Timeless, then?"

Were those all me..?

To be honest, Athen didn’t care much about the name "Timeless," which seemed to be connected to him, or his potential "past lives."

What mattered to him was figuring out how to activate his regression power.

Shaking his head, Athen stuffed the notebook back in the drawer and stood up from the bed.

In three days, a significant period after the cooldown of his time-stopping ability, he would start testing his power again.

He had been so close to merging with all those spiritual figures and dying, so risking it again just to experiment would be pushing it.

Walking to the edge of the loft, he stared down at the living room, where Kai was still sitting and drinking his cup of tea.
