Taming the Hybrid Mate: Desired by Five Alphas-Chapter 216: Jealousy
Andria’s POV
"Well, unfortunately, this is a game night, not a theatre or a drama night," Becca countered them, letting out a loud laugh. "Up next is Karaoke. Maybe with singing, we can cool off the tension."
Tricia rolled her head in disbelief, pouring some whiskey into her shot cup.
"Be careful that you don’t get tipsy like your friend, Alexa, over there, who has been spouting a lot of nonsense," a junior wolf called out from behind Tricia.
Tricia rolled her eyes, and I couldn’t help chuckling. Someone actually needed to put these two in their places, real quick; they have been a nuisance since this game night began.
"I can see that amused you specifically," Aven whispered.
"Of course, especially with the fact that it wasn’t even coming from me, but a junior," I replied to him.
"Ok, everyone," Becca announced, "I’m going to pair you in groups of fours so that this segment will be over in a hurry."
"Alexa, Aria, Aven and Damon will be in one group. Mel, Khalil, Tristan and Allison, in another group. Tricia, Zade, Spike and Macy..."
This was the first time I was taking a look at every wolf in attendance. The titan wolves were here, of which Spike was a part. Macy was here, but she seemed to have sneaked in late.
Michaela didn’t show up, and that wasn’t surprising, because she had returned to her home immediately after the events of the talent show. She claims it was her usual routine, as she never trusted staying behind at school for any other events.
I smiled and waved at Macy, and she returned the smile and the wave. I also waved at Allison, and she waved back.
She was glowing, looking much more refreshed than the previous day. I like the Khalil effect on her.
"Ok, now that you have been split into groups, each group will be given a song to sing. The group that performed best by singing the lyrics perfectly in uniform will be the winners. And they have their gifts," Becca announced, raising some necklaces in the air.
I remembered her saying something like that earlier, but I never knew that she had it planned for the game night.
Becca was putting in her A-game in hosting this game night, and I could see the weird look of jealousy and acknowledgement in Mel’s face.
Each group rearranged sharply, especially the junior wolf groups. They seemed more interested in winning the jewellery than the senior wolf groups.
"Now let the competition begin," Becca announced gleefully.
Each group performed their best, while some groups failed woefully, causing everyone to laugh at each mis-sung line.
This should be the most exciting segment in this whole event. Drama-free and less tense.
At the end of the game, a junior team won. I wasn’t surprised; they seemed more interested in the game than the senior teams.
My group failed woefully; only Damon happened to know the lyrics of the song we were given to sing.
Becca stared at me in utter disappointment, and at some point, she started laughing and mocking me. I had no other option but to laugh back.
"Now we are moving to the last item on the list," Becca announced. "Can we all guess what this segment is all about?" she said, giving me a signal to go get what would be used for the game.
"Truth or dare!" everyone chorused.
"You are all wrong," Becca countered, laughing out loud. A few gasps erupted within them. They expected a ’Truth or Dare’ game on a game night, perhaps.
"Well, what we have here is what we call ’the devil’s basket, ’" Becca announced.
The students started whispering to each other. "You all know that the devil’s basket carries only dares, and it will be passed around. If it gets to you, you pick a crumpled paper from the basket, read it aloud, and perform the dare."
Everyone gasped.
I dropped the basket near Becca and walked back to where I had been sitting.
The moment I dropped the basket beside Becca, I noticed the air in the room change; it seemed everyone was anxious to find out what this game was all about.
Tricia muttered, "Devil’s basket? What kind of nonsense is this?"
A junior wolf snorted. "You can step out if you are scared. Stop killing our excitement with your sneaky remarks."
Tricia rolled her eyes so hard I thought they might disappear into her skull.
Becca clapped her hands loudly. "Everyone, make space. The basket is going around the circle. Whoever it stops at picks a dare, reads it out loud, and carries it out immediately. No backing out."
"Becca repeating what this game is all about makes it sound like a trap?" Damon murmured beside me.
"Because it is," I whispered back, with a slight chuckle.
His lips curled, his eyes glistening with malicious and dark intent.
Aven leaned his elbow against the back of my chair. "I guess the game night just got interesting. Hoping to get the nastiest dare."
"Of course, Aven. You would wish that, naughty," I muttered.
"Just try to avoid another mini chaos," Tristan supplied.
"Not like I intentionally create chaos," I shot back.
"Maybe you don’t create chaos, but you attract it," Damon added.
I opened my mouth, but no words came out, so I just closed it back and averted my gaze.
Becca moved the basket slowly and dramatically, passing hands, bumping against fingers, and nudging knees. The room buzzed with a mixture of excitement and dread. My heart raced with a strange mixture of anticipation and unease; I couldn’t tell which feeling was louder.
Mel stood across the room with her arms folded, tapping her thumb against her elbow, eyes moving from the basket... to the kitchen... and back again.
My suspicion sharpened.
Something was wrong with her.
But before I could analyze it further, the basket stopped right in front of Alexa.
She squealed. "Oh my goddess, yes! Finally, something interesting."
"Don’t get excited yet, you haven’t seen your dare," Tricia remarked.
Alexa reached into the basket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. She flicked her hair, opened it with exaggerated drama, and read:
"Dance... seductively... for thirty seconds... with someone of your choice."
"Oh, yes," she purred, looking straight at Damon.
Damon groaned. "No."
Alexa smiled directly at him. "Oh, yes."
The room erupted in laughter. She glanced at me to see my reaction, but unfortunately for her, I was unfazed by her drama.
Becca cut in quickly, "You can’t choose anyone who is in a mate-bond."
Alexa’s face fell. "It can’t work like that, because almost every male wolf here has a mate. You would be boring the game," she grumbled.
"Well, that’s just the rule," Becca replied blatantly, and Mel rolled her eyes at Becca.
I fought a smile.
Alexa’s eye twitched. "Then what is the fun of the game night, if we don’t get to play with almost half the attendance?"
"Well, there’s actually nothing to worry about. You can choose another wolf that isn’t bonded," Becca replied calmly but firmly.
Alexa hissed out loudly, scanning the room to see if she could get another wolf. "Well, I can’t find anyone. Must I do the dare?"
The female wolves in the room gasped, whispers rushing like wind.
"Yes, you must, or else, you drink this shot of whiskey," Becca said, raising a big cup.
Alexa froze.
Her eyes landed on me with burning jealousy.
"You," she hissed. "You took all the fun out of the game."
"I literally didn’t do anything."
"And yet everything is about you!" She retorted.
Tricia quickly stepped in. "Alexa, it’s ok, just focus on the dare for now. Let her be; speaking to her is giving her more audience."
"Whatever," Alexa replied, rolling her eyes.
I chuckled under my breath. This should be the funniest event yet.
She glared around, scanned faces, then stomped toward a random junior wolf.
He shrank in fear. "I don’t..."
But Alexa grabbed his shirt collar and danced around him seductively, overly dramatically, flipping her hair like an injured ostrich. The room howled with laughter. Even Aven chuckled.
Thirty seconds later, she stomped back into place, muttering curses.
The basket moved again.
This time, it stopped at Zade.
Mel straightened quickly.
He plucked a paper and read it without emotion.
"Kiss someone on their mark."
The room went silent.
"Define... mark," he said slowly.
Becca scratched her head. "Uh... cheek, neck, arm... anywhere a wolf bearing a mark has a mark."
My heart stopped.
Alexa gasped dramatically. "Oh, Aria has plenty of marks, courtesy of many male wolves. Kiss her!"
Aven growled so deeply the air vibrated. She probably intended to upset either my mates or me, but it wasn’t working for me. I kept a blank expression.
"If only you had a mate, Alexa, maybe you would stop picking on those who were blessed with more than one," Allison retorted.
Alexa stood up, staggering a little towards Allison.
"Alexa, get back to your seat," Becca stated, sensing Alexa’s demeanor.
