Chapter 163: We begin now

He took them to a sealed-off area. It’s a compound that’s sealed off from the rest of the street, and it contained no houses, only a small shed to the side.

But it contained people that immediately turned their attention to Severin and his team as they entered. There were different teams inside, and most of them had intense auras.

"Don’t worry, you guys are in the same Advancement Stage," Miret said. "This is where I leave you. I wish you best of luck, Severin Reignhart."

Then the warden turned towards the shed and entered.

Severin took a quick look at all the people gathered. There must be at least eleven teams.

They stood in small groups and looked at each other warily but with asserting eyes.

Julie slid up to Severin. "They look powerful."

Severin nodded. "They are."

From what he could see, there was at least one A-ranked in each group, and some even had more than one.

He saw two S-ranked too, and he knew one must belong to Miret and the other to his rival.

"Are they all students like us too?" Ethan said as he watched with narrowed eyes.

"Not all. See, some of them are obviously older. They must be prisoners," Derrick said. His face was arrogant as he looked around the space.

Suddenly, a voice came from the same shed. "We will begin shortly. Listen to the instructions."

Everyone straightened.

The female voice continued. "The rules are simple. We will release some monsters into there. The people with the highest monsters killed by the end of the competition wins.

"Each monster’s kill will transfer a tattoo over to you, and you can give that tattoo to people, or it can be taken by force. Just make sure your team gets the highest number of kills."

The wary gazes they gave each other sharpened as they all thought of a very simple way to win: killing everyone else so killing the monsters won’t be a hard thing.

Severin nodded his head. As expected, he understood that they wanted the teams to fight each other to the last team or man standing.

And they would want to kill the weakest team first.

Eyes like daggers turned towards Severin’s team.

And... they weren’t wrong.

Severin was at the E Talent rank. Julius was an A, but they could feel no powers from him. Ethan is an A and one of the solid ones in the group. Derrick, E. Celia, D. Serena, D.

In the eyes of everyone looking at them, they are the weakest and most worthless team.

Meanwhile, inside the shed, a woman that wore a lot of metal piercings looked at Miret. "Why did you bring that last team? They’re too weak. Maybe you should let the one on A rank join one of your teams while you dispose of the others. They’re going to make this thing boring."

Miret shrugged. "They’re my team. They’re allowed to fight, and this has nothing to do with fun. We’re here to find representatives to fight the other side."

She shrugged. "You should enjoy a brief moment of fun, old man. Or... do you send them here to die? Is one of their families important that you want to stage their death?"

Miret’s eyes narrowed. "Come to think of it, I never asked what their names are, so I don’t know their families, but I doubt they’ll be anything special if they are this weak."

"There’s an A-ranked among them."

"And that’s the only interesting bit about them," Miret said. Then he added, "Their leader is Severin... Reignhart."

She stiffened and then studied the projection again. Her eyes were wide and big. She blurted out in surprise, "And you want to kill him?"

Miret shrugged. "It’s not my fault if a Reignhart couldn’t protect himself."

She shook her head. "You shouldn’t have brought him here. He’s the last one. Do the others know?"

"No. Not yet. Listen, there’s nothing special about the Reignhart anymore. It’s time they’re buried as they should," Miret said.

She turned to look at him very slowly. "You. You want something from him, don’t you? That’s why you want to kill him. Your ambition really has no end."

But she didn’t say anything else to stop him.

Miret turned around. "Let’s start."

"What is the strategy?" Ethan asked as he brought his warhammer out of his ring.

Severin raised his brows. "I’ll lead the charge this time, and the strategy is simple. Kill everything in front of you. If it moves? Kill it."

Wait... what?

The team all turned to look at Severin.

Not because he said he wanted to lead himself, but because of the bloodlust aura that covered him. They’ve seen Severin fight, and it’s always in the careful type of way.

It’s a rare sight indeed for him to show the bloody side of himself.

Julius swallowed. "So... we just kill everyone?"

"Yes," Severin said calmly. That was the only way Miret would take him seriously.

Julius nodded, and then he removed his own sword. He had been training in the perception technique that Severin taught him, and with Instructor Ardent’s teaching, he was now very good with it, so much so that he was even able to fool the instructor in his own domain.

Everyone brought out their weapons and stood facing the room as everyone already turned their way.

"We will begin now."

The woman’s voice said.

And it started.

Blue light flashed throughout the room, and the monsters appeared.

Celia blinked hard. "These are the monsters?"

The monsters were just goats with longer three horns. That’s it. No fangs or claws or special abilities.

It was obvious to everyone that they just wanted the teams to fight among themselves.

"Here they come." Severin’s hand shot forward, and he gripped the neck of the closest monster, breaking it with a loud cracking sound.

Because for some reason...

There were more monsters on their side of the compound than anywhere else.

Miret really wanted them dead.

There was a pause, a brief calm, and then it came crashing down, and everything changed.
