Chapter 160: You’re weak

Isolde Dusk is an island, as expected.

But it’s a moving island.

"Seven thousand acres," Miret had told them while grinning.

Although they understood the scale, they didn’t quite understand how massive it was until they saw it. The island was big, and seeing it from above, it looked like a giant mechanical disfigured head.

Everything on the island was covered by a metal dome, every inch was covered by the black metal.

And then on the metal, etched into it, are runes that glowed softly, shining like countless crystals.

"Isolde Dusk!"

If they didn’t understand what a prison island looked like before, they could understand now when they saw the Dome that seemed to stretch forever. Sometimes it was low and sometimes big, as if it was warping over a mountain.

They flew over it, and even from the ship, they felt the overpowering aura that rolled off it, the energy that seemed pointed and direct like the giant eye of a monster always turning to look their way.

But nothing bothered them as they flew above, and then the ship slowly cut downward. The section of the place they were flying above peeled over slowly and showed a normal-looking compound.

The flying ship came down and blew dust all over as it touched down.

"Do you know what the Guest program of the Isolde Dusk is like?" Miret asked them.

Severin shook his head while the others remained silent. After all, everyone knew next to nothing about what was happening and left it to Severin to take care of things.

"I don’t really know much," Severin said. He didn’t want to rely on the unreliable book knowledge.

Miret grunted. "It’s simple. Every end of a session like this, when students are free to go home, we look for the best of the best, and they are sent here. We train them. Or they die here."

Miret spoke with a flat voice, and at the end, he stared at them with his eyes that were lifeless and cold.

Derrick shifted. "I’ve not heard of a training like this before. Shouldn’t something like this be popular?"

Miret’s eyes flickered toward Severin, and a small smile appeared on his lips. "So you want the headquarters of Headless Knight training to be known to everyone? And the seat of the secret intelligence to be widespread to everyone?"

Apart from Severin, everyone’s eyes widened. They looked at each other with awe and fear in their eyes.

The Headless Knight are a big deal.

They are known throughout the Empire and outside. They are regarded as elite of the elite, the cream of the very top.

"The Headless Knight training ground," Julius said faintly. He looked at Severin and came to a realization. If Miret was telling them a big secret like that, then he must have a way of making them keep their mouths shut.

Severin scowled.

So... Miret didn’t want Severin to have any upper hands now that they were back in his base.

Miret shrugged. "Do you know the aim of the Empire? It’s a collective aim of individuals. Power. The Empire sought power just as you and I do. In such a way, they train select few separately, push them to the edge, and also obtain their loyalty."

Julius frowned. "Are you saying we have to serve the Emperor directly now?"

Miret shrugged. "Not really. Inasmuch as you are still a citizen of the Empire, you are entitled to be a Guest of Isolde Dusk if you are strong enough to gain its attention."

Ethan’s eyes sharpened. "And are we? Are we strong enough to warrant attention from Isolde Dusk?"

"No," Miret said with a flat tone. "You’re not even near the level of our usual Guests. But you are here, riding on the grace of your leader."

The team looked at each other in surprise.

If there was one thing their leader was known for, it’s not strength. And if they, especially Ethan who’s the strongest, are not qualified, then how is Severin, who should be just above Julius, the one?

They were surprised, but not that much.

Although they knew Severin wasn’t known for his strength, he was known for his resourcefulness and his ability to set several gears into motion.

That is who their leader is.

Severin Reignhart.

Serena nodded. "Then we will do our best."

Miret shook his head. "You your best? No. You’ll either do good or you’ll die. There’s no other way to go about it. And then there’s another thing.

"I am part of the five guardians. The people that are nominated are automatically considered as heir to the title of the five guardians."

Severin coughed. "Aren’t you immortal? How can you have an heir when you are immortal? Have you had an heir before? What happened to all your previous heirs?"

Miret turned to him. "I’ve had five heirs through my years, and all of them are dead. Some died in battle, and others outgrew me. They didn’t reach the level of Immortal Advancement Stage before they died."

Severin raised his brows. "So... are you saying I have to shoulder the pressure of being your heir now that you are the one that’s now personally recommending me?"

Miret shrugged. "Yes. This is a prison. It’s also a city. And there is politics. Power struggle. My influence is big, too big for some people, and they’ve started to cut it down."

His eyes narrowed as he looked at Severin.

Severin understood what Miret meant by looking at him. The man needed his power to increase. That’s why he wanted to have Severin, who was the only true link to his bones that he’s had in years, close to him.

All that bullshit about him being powerful enough to be nominated or strong enough to be a Guest was all shit. All he wanted was his bones, and Severin was the only link he had now.

Severin smiled as he looked at him. "Heir? You need me to be your heir? I’ll only be too glad to oblige. Tell me, Lord Miret. What are the benefits?"
