It was a simple slash to Anansi’s head, but with the acceleration combined with its evasion technique, and at such a close distance, the monkey man did not register it on time, and his sword pierced through the skull.

But what Severin expected did not happen. Anansi did not drop his hand. In fact, his grip only tightened into a painful hold as it seemed his bones would break.

Severin stared up at where his sword pierced through. It was the first time he would be seeing someone get stabbed in the head and yet they still remained unaffected.

And.

Anansi’s head was not dripping blood. It was dripping with darkness.

They spoke as one, their voices overlapping. "I told you, Anansi is already dead. Filled only with my darkness. This is part of the power I took from Dolor. There is nowhere for you to run to now. I will eat you, and I will not be quick about it. I will make you feel every pain!"

Severin’s jaws tightened. Things had gone horribly, but he was not giving up yet. "Do you remember the stories I told you, Anansi? The box! The gods!"

The Shadow Lord came close. His eyes narrowed and then cleared as if he was receiving a message. He had just read Anansi’s memory. "Ahaha! Thank you for providing me with extra power. I was already to dispose of Anansi because there was nothing new he could bring, and yet, you provided a feast. Two feasts!"

Severin’s hand tightened on his sword as he removed it.

"Should I slash my own hand to get away from these lunatics? I cannot get to my equipment with him holding me like that. Fuck. Slashing it is!"

Severin raised his sword and turned it to his own hand, but then something happened in that moment.

The roof of the place they were staying shuddered. The darkness that was attached to it scattered, and the next moment a bolt of silver lightning tore through with an explosive sound of stone breaking and the screech of metal tearing.

The Shadow Lord’s expression darkened as he turned to face the new threat. Anansi also dropped his hand, and they both faced where the lightning had torn through.

A man was floating in the air, surrounded by smoke and hesitant sparks of silver lightning. His white teeth were shining, and his face was beaming as he stared down at them. He shouted, "Shadow Lord!"

The sword on his back was taller than him, but it did not seem to hinder him as he floated closer. "What are you doing to my human?"

The Shadow Lord sneered. The tears on his face fell faster, dripping black liquid on the floor. "Your human? Veyron, you have done it this time. You have crossed the line! How dare you break into my territory."

The man, Veyron, waved his hand impatiently. "So? How dare you restrain a human?"

"This is my territory, Veyron. All those who come under my territory are my subjects to do with as I wish. You should not have come here, Veyron, but I am glad you are.

"We were still going to fight later anyway."

Veyron sent a brief glance to Severin. "All the humans in Sector Delta are mine to govern. It does not matter where they are. They are mine, and now I am here to take what is mine."

Severin did not like that. From the look of it, they all wanted a piece of him, and not in any good way. This Veyron must have been so corrupted that there must be nothing more in him than corruption, and he must be working for Dolor.

Either way, Severin knew he would end up dead with either of them. "Fight among yourselves so I can escape, you bastards. It is a shame that my plans for Anansi did not go as I wanted, but then."

The Shadow Lord laughed. His laughter was like nails in the ears. "You want him? Then you will come and take him after I die!"

"I like that even better!" In one swift motion, Veyron drew his sword. The weapon instantly glowed with silver hot light so blinding and intense that all the darkness around him disappeared.

And then without hesitation, he slashed downward. A magnificent energy of rippling silver tore free from the sword and blasted down in an arc that seared the air.

Severin stared at it with an angry expression as he lifted another teleportation card. "These bastards!"

The Shadow Lord roared, and darkness surged around him like waves. Darkness molded into a large jutting in front of him and smacked into the silver light.

The explosion that followed shook the ground and peeled away layers from the wall.

But the three of them still remained standing.

Severin had teleported under the Shadow Lord’s throne and hid under the stone space. The throne looked like some kind of artifact. He would be observing from there until he saw his chance to escape.

Besides, Anansi’s head was turned to his direction.

Veyron snorted coldly from above. "I thought you would have gone all rusty sitting on that blasted chair all day."

Shadow Lord sneered. "You actually grow stronger. Is Dolor so afraid of what is coming to him that he is spending everything to train you? That used up battery will get what is coming for it soon."

Veyron did not say anything for a long time and just stared at Shadow Lord coldly.

For his part, Shadow Lord also stared up at him with hatred. His hand grew longer, and his claws lengthened and sharpened.

There was not any signal. The two of them flickered and disappeared from their places.

Severin blinked.

They were so fast that his eyes could not keep up, and his perception was rendered useless.

They clashed in midair with a loud bang and an explosive force of rippling shockwave that shattered what remained of the roof and dented the floor.

Clang! Bang! Boom! Bam! Bam!

And that was the thing that Severin could hear as they fought. Only the sound of their fighting and the occasional bright silver light and murky darkness as they used their techniques.

Severin still stared at what he could see greedily. It was not every day that he got to see powerful people clash.

It was not every day that he got to see what he wanted to become and surpass.
