Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 116: The story about a box
Chapter 116: The story about a box
Severin was not surprised. "It seems I am more popular than you here, old man."
Anansi snorted. "Sure. Everyone wants a piece of you. What you should be wary of, though, is why they want it."
"The Shadow Lord’s people must be after me because of my shadow. It is the only strange thing that happened to me since I got here, unless they want me dead for associating with you. There is no reason to want a weak person like me otherwise.
"As for the ECF, they likely wanted me because I am human, and they needed a new member."
"But then again, there is also something linking the two: the thing under the old research facility. If they are in opposition, then the two organizations might be checkmating each other’s moves."
Anansi stared at him. "You are strangely calm for someone who is likely to end up dead."
"What is the use of getting worked up? It will only make me act more stupidly and hasten my death."
He flashed a smile at Anansi. "We also have you and your motives. What will you do now? Let them take me? Fight them or get yourself captured together with me?
"Or lose your new source of power?"
Anansi’s face twitched, and he forced out a smile. "You do not have lots of friends, do you?"
Severin smiled back. "I do not."
Anansi settled into his seat. "Tell a story. A very powerful one. Powerful enough so that I can deal with all your troubles for you. Think about it. I can fight the Shadow Lord while you escape through the door."
Severin frowned. "Can someone without a shadow live?"
"We will get you your shadow as well."
As the two spoke quietly and soundlessly in their place, the attention they placed in the room did not lower, and they clearly saw what was slowly happening.
The people in the tavern were slowly being replaced by members from the two organizations. They ordered food and drink, and they ate.
But with Severin’s perception, he knew that all the eyes in the room were on him. The atmosphere had turned heavy and tense as the two groups in the room continued their stare-off.
Severin, for his part, was relaxed as he spoke with Anansi. "Alright, alright. I will tell you a story."
"It is the story of a box that could kill the gods." Severin smiled.
Anansi jolted. It was as if something hit him right on the head. By saying only that, he realized that what Severin was about to tell him was likely the most powerful story he had ever heard in his life.
He swallowed. "Go on. Tell me."
"Would you really save me and get me back?" Severin asked in a serious way, his eyes clear and trusting. freewebnoveℓ.com
Anansi blinked. "It will be difficult, but with a strong power, I will do as you wanted. After all, I cannot go outside. I will continue to rule here!"
Severin nodded. "I do not trust people, but I am going to trust you this once because it is my only way of getting back home."
Anansi nodded impatiently. He waved his hand, and another ripple spread around them, creating a force that concealed them. "Yes, yes. You can now tell me the story before our uninvited guests begin their fighting!"
Severin began.
"In a realm where gods reigned supreme, the Pandora Box was a dreaded legend: a sleek, obsidian chest forged by a powerful god, Hephaestus, under the command of a vengeful primordial force.
"Inside, it held weapons of unimaginable power: a scythe that could sever divine souls, a vial of venom to corrode immortality, and a spear that pierced all things.
"Fearing their potential, Zeus sealed the box with chains of celestial fire and a lock requiring the blood of Severus, entrusting it to Pandora, a mortal man crafted with beauty and a restless curiosity. He warned him to guard it in a hidden vault beneath his home with an invitation card.
"Pandora’s life became a torment. The box’s presence taunted him, its whispers promising godlike power. Gods coveted its contents to fuel their ambitions, while others dreaded the chaos it could unleash."
By this time, Anansi was like a statue. Everything seemed stiff and heavy, as if time itself was slowing. Anansi was eating and was quickly filled.
The story he was hearing was a godlike story. It was exactly, even more than, the stories that made him into a lord. Not only was it a story but a myth. A legend. They are rare to come by.
The surrounding space was boiling, and Anansi’s eyes were weeping blood, but he did not take them away from Severin as golden light flew from his mouth into Anansi’s own mouth.
"Mortal heroes, hearing tales of the box, sought it, but none breached the vault’s divine traps. One night, goaded by a festive god of discord, Pandora’s resolve crumbled. He pricked his finger on the lock, his blood mingling with the seal. He used the invitation, the chains shattered, and the box burst open.
"The weapons surged into the world, falling into mortal and monstrous hands. A rogue warrior slew a lesser god with the venom, and a warlord brandished the scythe, sparking wars that shook the world. Pandora, horrified, saw one faint glow left in the box: Grace, a shard of divine light that could temper the weapons’ destruction. Clutching it, he swore to hunt down the scattered arsenal, becoming a fugitive pursued by gods and men alike."
Severin stopped speaking. His mouth was heavy, and his eyes seemed filled with lead. Even his body seemed weighed down with metal. It was as if he had been running for days.
"That is it. The story ends."
The surrounding area inside the tavern was just as silent. Although Anansi had shielded everything from view, they could feel what was happening.
They felt a wave of heavy power that did not belong in the room.
What was happening? The two groups looked at each other as if one group was the cause. The already filled tension seemed about to spill over.
In their concealed space, Severin stared at Anansi. "How do you feel?"
