Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon's Might-Chapter 28 - th Chapter: Attacking here!
Chapter 28: 28th Chapter: Attacking here!
""He who hesitates is lost, Leon didn't waste any more words, he raised his hand and took the first strike.
Leon never expected the immobilization spell to hold the Annis Hag for long, he only hoped to catch her off guard for a few seconds, long enough to grip his sword tightly, raise it, and plunge it towards the Annis Hag, possibly taking half of her life with one strike.
Expectations are full but reality is harsh; Leon thought it was a good plan, little did he know that Annis Hag was completely different from his previous foes.
The Annis Hag, a master of bizarre magic, adorned with numerous magic items of various forms and trigger mechanisms. His casting of the immobilization spell lasted less than half a second before ending as an odd trinket on her burst apart.
Seeing her life-saving ornament shattered, the Annis Hag screamed, turning into a cloud of black mist and moving dozens of steps away, regaining her monstrous form amidst her stumbled and disheveled appearance.
The preemptive strike failed, and Leon felt slightly disappointed, but there was no helping it.
"You little beast, trying to ambush Aunt Peggy," Leon would have been chopped down if not for the long-accumulated effects of her magic items encountering such a life-threatening experience for the first time in many years, the Annis Hag was beyond furious, cursing mercilessly with her sharp fangs bared.
"When dealing with evil and deceit, there's no need for chivalric codes," Leon frowned, his voice full of righteousness.
"You are the ones with evil and deceit, murderers, robbers, scum, arsonists, tyrants..." In terms of cursing, ten Leons wouldn't even catch a glimpse of her shadow, the Annis Hag could curse for ten minutes straight without repeating or catching her breath.
Of course, Leon wouldn't engage in a cursing match. Seeing the Annis Hag dozens of steps away, he threw his sword and initiated the Sword Control Technique... He had an embarrassing issue; though he could control the sword flexibly due to the technique, as a Red Dragon, it was inconvenient to walk using legs, and he even needed his tail to maintain balance, so he could only resort to his Flying Sword if the enemy was far.
What is this ghastly thing?
The Flying Sword approached quickly, not giving the Annis Hag much time to think. She ran, dodging the Flying Sword while pulling a potion from her chest and gulping it down, disappearing into thin air.
Invisibility Potion, huh?
She really isn't easy to deal with.
Invisibility doesn't mean disappearance; it just makes her invisible to the naked eye. Listening for sounds and looking for footprints, Leon controlled the Flying Sword, sending it flying chaotically where the Annis Hag might reappear.
After about half a minute with no results, Leon thought, manipulating the Sword Control Technique was too draining on his mana—swapping for a new, heavier sword meant significantly increased mana consumption—his claws grasped, summoning the Flying Sword back into his hand.
Though controlling the new sword required more mana, the power he wielded with it in his hand was much greater. Leon gripped the sword handle and swung it through the air, affirming his efforts over this period.
The Annis Hag never reappeared; Leon was not prepared to continue expending effort like this, spread his wings intending to leave.
After all, this transaction brought him considerable gain. The most important thing is that there are a thousand days to be a thief but not a thousand days to guard against one; he knew where the Annis Hag lived and could retaliate anytime, but the reverse was not true.
This Red Dragon Young Dragon was indeed strange, exceeding expectations at every turn. Seeing that Leon wasn't storming madly but instead preparing to leave, the Annis Hag could no longer sit by, waving her hand as a cloud of black mist surged out of nowhere.
Using gaming terms, that was an Annis Hag's lair action, only usable within her lair. A powerful Annis Hag could conjure a dense cloud of corrosive black smoke, causing severe concealment to creatures and objects behind or in the cloud and dealing strong acid damage.
The black mist obscured Leon's vision, the strong acid burning his skin, his combat experience wasn't rich, but his mind was still sharp; he didn't panic, kept flapping his wings to take off.
Watching Leon emerge from the black mist, the Annis Hag let out a weird laugh, she extended her arm forward projecting a green ray which hit Leon squarely, then immediately threw a handful of seeds on his body, which quickly grew into a twisted mass of vines that entangled Leon and threw him to the ground.
Turn-based game, your move, my move, now it was Leon's turn to deal with the Annis Hag.
Vines again, can't she come up with something new?
Leon remembered a similar incident from before when he was just a baby dragon.
The gap between baby dragon and young dragon is enormous, he was no longer who he used to be.
Leon didn't use his sword; he grabbed the vines with his empty hand and tore off a large piece, prepared to continue when he suddenly felt a wave of weakness.
Leon felt the invasion of magical power into his body, recalling the green ray he just encountered, he immediately recognized the spell—Pathogenic Ray.""
The Pathogenic Ray not only inflicts poison damage on the target, but the target must also make a constitution saving throw; if failed, they will be poisoned until the end of the next turn, at a disadvantage in attacks and ability checks.
It was at this moment that Leon felt a burning heat in his chest.
It was the power of Samadhi True Fire, which was dispelling the magic power invading his body.
Samadhi True Fire is divided into Upper Mei, Middle Mei, and Lower Mei, and further categorized into King Fire, Minister Fire, and Min Fire, corresponding to the heart, kidneys, and bladder in the human body. It is an energy naturally produced within the body, capable of external and internal applications. Internally, it can dispel diseases, ward off demons, cool down the heat, leaving nothing behind.
The Pathogenic Ray had inflicted damage on Leon, but its negative effects were moot. In this situation, he exerted his strength and in an instant burst open the vines entangling him.
Now it was Leon's turn again; he raised his sword, ready to perform another Sword Control Technique.
Reality is not a turn-based game, where one acts and the other reacts, each turn with a standard action and a bonus action. The Annis Hag unleashed a combo without waiting for Leon's move and charged towards him.
Leon had just raised his sword when he saw the Annis Hag rushing to him, grabbing and firmly holding him.

An Annis Hag is different from other hags. She is the tallest and most robust among them, excelling not in bizarre magic but in the sheer physical strength capable of biting, claw attacks, and crushing hugs. Especially the latter, once unfortunate enough to be caught, there is almost no chance of surviving.
"Sweety, darling, die in Aunt Peggy's embrace," the Annis Hag held Leon tightly, squeezing with pride.
It didn't believe Leon could break free from its grip, as it had saved its most potent Cloud Giant Power Potion for such an occasion.
"You actually stood up to greet Aunt Peggy, so eager for my embrace?" the Annis Hag cackled like an old hen.
It thought it would have to find an opportunity, unaware that Leon would be so cooperative.
Leon struggled hard, uncertain of why the Annis Hag's strength was so immense, and began to take deep breaths.
"Are you preparing for Fire Breath?" the Annis Hag noticed Leon's actions and remembered the potion and equipment it prepared carefully. With its current flame resistance, the scorching flames were only as bothersome as bright sunlight. Although it detested sunlight, it was more eager to see the despair in the eyes of the Red Dragon Young Dragon.
"Come on, hurry up, breathe fire at your Aunt Peggy," the Annis Hag said excitedly, "It's been awfully cold these days, Aunt Peggy needs your warmth."
Ghostly tricks?
An illusion?
Deception skills?
This was Leon's first thought at the moment, but the Annis Hag squeezing him till his bones crackled was definitely real; with that in mind, he didn't care about anything else and blasted the Annis Hag's head with Samadhi True Fire.
The Annis Hag looked up at Leon's gaping mouth, the surging flames. It pondered how it should mock him next—was this flame breath even as powerful as a candle flame? Couldn't even roast a frog, suddenly feeling a piercing pain, a deep pain in its bones...
Why was it so painful? The flames were not burning its skin but its bones.
The Annis Hag tried to push Leon away, but now it was Leon's turn to hold it in place, immobilizing it until his Mana was exhausted, turning the Annis Hag into a charred corpse.
Leon released the charred remains, grinding his teeth.
"Where is she?"
"Wasn't it you who wanted me to breathe fire?"
"I've never seen such a request in my life."
"Owlbears are brainless, are you brainless too? Don't you know how powerful the Red Dragon's Flame Breath is?"
The charred corpse of the Annis Hag suddenly moved, startling Leon.
