Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 59: Rebirth
Today, Moira Young was discharged from the hospital and brought back to the Porter family by Carter Porter.
Moira’s face was still somewhat pale. Although she ate properly these days and never made a fuss, her nutrition was adequate, yet her face remained colorless.
She entered through the door, walked up to Mrs. Porter, and without hesitation, deeply bowed with genuine sincerity.
"Auntie, I’m sorry." When Moira attempted suicide, her mind was blank. These days, she thought about many things.
She couldn’t figure out most things, but one thing she understood—Julian Sinclair truly didn’t want her anymore.
She really had nothing left.
But the more it was like this, the more she needed to live well, rather than foolishly resort to suicide.
Moira wanted to live more beautifully, to make Julian Sinclair realize that even without him in her life, she could still live well.
"What are you doing?" Mrs. Porter lifted her shoulders.
"Auntie, you are a good person. You pulled me back from hell, yet I selfishly attempted suicide without thinking about the place. I’m sorry..." As Moira spoke, innocent tears glistened in her eyes, making her seem endearing.
Mrs. Porter suddenly softened, no longer blaming her for the suicide attempt here.
"Alright, alright, don’t cry. Whenever you cry, I feel upset too." Mrs. Porter wasn’t one to hold grudges. Seeing Moira cry made her somewhat emotional.
"It’s only a few days until school starts. You and Carter both attend Arden University. Why don’t you stay here these days and treat this as your home?" Mrs. Porter pulled her hand and sat down.
"Auntie, I’m really sorry for troubling you..."
"You haven’t troubled me at all. Carter’s been taking care of you these days, and once you’re at university, you two should stick together often." Mrs. Porter glanced at Carter, "Don’t make friends with those unreliable people. Every time I see him go out with them, it makes me nervous, worrying he might not come back."
"Mom, what are you saying!" Carter disliked hearing this, "It’s not as scary as you say. I’m not going out fighting!"
"Let me tell you, your dad is coming home soon. Be careful, he might scold you." Mrs. Porter started bickering with Carter.
Moira tried to smile, then calmly turned and headed upstairs, recalling how she used to be just like Carter, relying on her family’s love, always voicing her thoughts without hesitation.
Now things were different, from now on she really had to face things alone.
Moira entered the room, locked the door from inside, the forced smile on her face gradually faded, her eyes turned expressionless like water.
Indeed, the feeling of being utterly despondent is like this, clearly capable of crying and causing a scene, yet choosing instead to bury the grief.
——
A few days later, Carter’s father returned from a business trip abroad, having apparently secured a very significant deal, causing the previously stagnant company to instantly bounce back, making the whole family joyful.
He brought back many gifts, even Moira Young received one.
Moira smiled accepting them, politely thanked him several times, but she knew in her heart, Carter’s dad likely misunderstood her as his future daughter-in-law.
"Carter, school starts tomorrow, shall I drive both of you there?"
At dinner, Carter’s dad suggested.
"No need, Dad. I’ll drive Moira myself. I’m old enough not to need you to drive me there. That would be embarrassing!" Carter replied, full of reluctance.
"It’s not up to you." Mrs. Porter laughed and glanced at Carter’s dad, giving him a knowing look, "It’s up to Moira to decide."
Moira’s hand paused slightly while picking food, her face showing a well-behaved expression, "I’ll follow Uncle and Auntie’s arrangements."
Carter wasn’t pleased. He looked at Moira suspiciously, knowing her obedient nature, yet felt compelled to ask: "Don’t you have a rebellious phase?"
Moira blinked her large eyes and shook her head, unwilling to recall the past, "I don’t really know, maybe I did."
Mrs. Porter secretly kicked Carter under the table, only then did he realize he misspoke.
"Alright alright, tonight you two discuss what needs to be packed. Tomorrow, your dad and I will drive you both." Mrs. Porter placed a piece of meat in Carter’s bowl, signaling him with her eyes not to speak further.
Carter discreetly checked Moira’s expression, seeing she was unresponsive, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Child, both your uncle and I have been through this. Arden University’s dormitory conditions aren’t great, I was thinking you and Carter could come back home every weekend. I can prepare delicious meals for you." Mrs. Porter suggested, her meaning quite clear.
"Auntie, I’ve already inconvenienced you by staying at your house these days. I’ll repay you in the future." Moira put down her chopsticks, with a solemn demeanor. She knew if she continued to stay, the misunderstanding would deepen.
"Since I aim to live independently in the future, I must learn to adapt to such days. I hope Uncle and Auntie can trust that I can manage."
Carter stared in a daze at Moira. He had known Moira for three years, previously only thinking she disliked talking, but now it seemed she merely hid everything inside, never revealing anything.
These few words were enough to embarrass Mr. and Mrs. Porter into silence.
Mrs. Porter still seemed to want to say something, hesitated, but Moira pretended not to see, quietly continued eating.
After dinner, Carter and Moira went upstairs. Since they needed to live at school, Mrs. Porter had already organized their bedding and blankets.
This was Carter’s home, he had everything, lacking nothing.
But Moira was different, she had nothing, only the few clothes given by Mr. Porter.
"Moira, do you need anything else?" Carter observed his room packed with clutter, feeling a headache.
Moira voluntarily crouched to help him organize the miscellany, ranging from anime figures to gaming consoles, while organizing those items, she remarked: "I don’t need anything else, I’m quite content."
Even though Moira and Carter had no relations, she had lived in his house for so many days, consuming the Porter family’s food and drink. Even if she lacked everything, in her heart she felt she could only sustain herself normally thanks to the Porter family.
"Carter, once school starts, could you help me find a part-time job? You know more people than I do, unlike me, lacking a social circle." Moira neatly categorized the items, all meant for school.
Carter pondered, "You want to do a part-time job?"
"Yes." Moira crouched with her back towards him, her voice somewhat muffled, "I need to live after all."
Carter was about to say something when his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and felt a little uneasy, not daring to speak and stepped out to take the call.
After returning, his expression was indecipherable in terms of happiness or sadness.
"Moira Young, if there hadn’t been that incident between you and Heath Sterling, would you have been with him?" Carter sat beside Moira, gazing at her.
Moira was taken aback, instinctively searching for that initial period of pain, but no matter how she pondered, her heart felt no anguish.
Moira bitterly smiled, realizing she had forgotten, her heart had long been numb, feeling nothing.
However, perhaps this was quite alright.
"Why bring this up?" Moira feigned disinterest, her hands continued their motion.
"No... no particular reason, just suddenly thought to ask." Carter took the anime figures from her hand, slightly averting his face, and started organizing himself.
