Chapter 352: Chapter 352: Fireworks

Heath Sterling’s concerned voice reached Moira Young’s ears, jolting her back to reality: "I... it’s fine, I’m okay."

"Really okay?" Heath frowned.

"Yeah, I’m okay." Moira’s face was pale, but she managed a reassuring smile at Heath, "Have you finished the paperwork?"

Heath nodded: "All done."

She said, "Let’s go and drop off the luggage."

"Alright." Heath, with a tight frown, led Moira towards the room.

Yet a growing confusion swirled in his mind; Moira’s current state was so different from her usual self, but why?

No matter how curious he was, he couldn’t bring himself to ask.

Some things Moira would naturally share when she was ready. If she wasn’t ready, pressing her wouldn’t help.

"You’ve had a long day; let’s relax in the hot springs later." After dropping off the luggage in Moira’s room, Heath proposed.

"Okay." Moira obediently nodded, offering no objections to his suggestion.

Heath then took a shoulder and neck massager out of his suitcase and handed it to Moira: "I noticed you kept stretching your neck in the car, it must be your shoulders and neck acting up. This massager is pretty good, give it a try."

After handing it over, Heath was about to leave, but Moira stopped him at the door.

"Heath, thank you."

"Thank you for coming out here with me to unwind, and for taking care of everything along the way, you’ve worked hard."

Heath shook his head dismissively, raising his eyebrows with a charming smile: "We’re friends, right? As friends, there’s no need to be so polite."

The bitterness in his words was known only to him.

Friends? He had never been content with just being friends with her, yet that’s all they were.

"You’re right." Moira’s lips curled up slightly, her mood seemed to lighten.

Half an hour later, Moira walked into the hot spring room wearing a bathrobe. The room was filled with steam, like a fairyland.

She couldn’t tell what scent the hotel used, but the faint fragrance was delightful, and her body slowly relaxed.

From the men’s bath next door, Heath heard the sound and tentatively asked, "Moira, is that you?"

Moira hadn’t expected Heath to choose a private hot spring, convenient for friends of different genders to bathe together.

Each of the small hot springs was separated; they couldn’t see each other but could hear each other’s voices clearly.

Moira opened the wooden door and slipped into the hot spring pool. The milky, creamy hot spring was at a perfect temperature and emitted a faint fragrance, truly refreshing.

She let out a satisfied sigh before slowly responding to Heath: "Yes, it’s me."

"What do you think? This hot spring is quite nice, isn’t it?" Heath seemed a bit proud.

"The water temperature is perfect, and the fragrance is delightful, it’s really nice." Moira admitted, closing her eyes comfortably.

"I heard they’ve added a lot of beneficial herbs to the hot spring. Your body is frail; you should soak well. Given your small frame, if you get any thinner, you might fall over after a couple of steps without the wind blowing."

Heath teased.

Moira finally found amusement, her lips curving slightly: "I’m not that thin, but you look skin and bones yourself, and you dare talk about me?"

"I’ve got muscles, do you?" Heath countered.

"..."

"I’ve got abs, do you?"

"..."

"I’ve got pecs, do you?"

"..."

In the end, Moira was silent; indeed, what he had, she lacked.

After teasing each other for a while, Moira suddenly quieted down, giving a deep sigh.

Heath sensed something was wrong with her mood and softly asked, "Moira, what’s wrong? Not feeling well somewhere?"

"No." Even through the wall, Moira shook her head.

Heath hesitated for a couple of seconds and then gently spoke: "Moira, I don’t know what exactly happened to you. If you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t ask. But remember, we’re friends, and no matter what difficulties or thoughts you have, you can always talk to me. I might not be able to help you, but I can definitely be the best listener."

Hearing Heath’s words, Moira fell silent, making no movement for a while.

Heath’s brows furrowed tightly, a gloomy expression on his face.

He knew Moira probably still wasn’t willing to talk.

Since that was the case, he couldn’t force her.

"Moira, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk, I just want..."

However, at that moment, Moira suddenly spoke: "Actually, it’s nothing major, it’s just a breakup."

"Breakup? What do you mean?" Heath’s expression changed dramatically, trace anger in his brows and eyes, "Julian Sinclair ditched you?"

"Yes, he ditched me." She sneered, with a hint of self-mockery.

Hearing this, Heath was furious: "How dare he!"

The woman he couldn’t have but cherished like a treasure, why was she discarded like something worthless by Julian Sinclair?

The more Heath thought about it, the more irked he became, his chest heaving violently as his hands clenched, his gaze so intense as if he wanted to devour someone.

Yet at the same time, a part of him felt a secret joy. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Julian Sinclair and Moira’s breakup meant he had a chance. He secretly rejoiced at how right his decision was to bring Moira out, thinking that perhaps after they returned, he could win her over.

But upon considering Moira’s sorrowful expression, he quickly calmed down.

Now was her vulnerable time; how could he seize such an opportunity?

"Moira..." Heath wanted to say something comforting, but as the words reached the tip of his tongue, he realized he didn’t know what to say.

Moira seemed indifferent, with a bitter smile on her lips: "It’s fine, you don’t need to comfort me."

"No matter what, I’ll be by your side, you may have lost him, but you still have me."

Heath realized that what Moira needed now was not comfort or complaints but silent companionship.

Listening to those words, a slight warmth surged in Moira’s heart.

She parted her thin lips gently, her voice faint: "Thank you, Heath."

"I’ve said, we’re friends, no need for thanks." Heath’s tone was light, seemingly in a good mood.

But his expression told a different story, his long, narrow eyes filled with pity and loss.

He didn’t want to only be her friend.

"It’s nothing, just in time everything’s past now, maybe as time goes by, I’ll let it go." Moira lowered her eyes, speaking in an indifferent manner.

This bland tone made Heath’s heart ache.

He didn’t dare mention Julian Sinclair’s name again, fearing it might evoke her memories.

Both remained silent, and the air grew exceedingly still.

After what seemed an eternity, Moira broke the silence.

"Heath, are you still there?"

Heath immediately replied: "I’m here. Moira, I heard there’s a fireworks festival tomorrow night, want to go together to see it?"

Moira was surprised; she hadn’t expected such an event: "Really?"

"Yeah, the receptionist mentioned it when I was checking in."

"Then let’s go together tomorrow night." Moira agreed readily.
