Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 320: Self-Deception
"I just hope you don’t deceive yourself." Aiden Webb put the fruit salad he brought on the coffee table and sat on the sofa.
Moira Young rolled her eyes, "I know I’ve gained weight, but there’s no need for you to be so direct, is there?"
"What’s wrong with it?" Aiden looked up, "Why do you girls in showbiz care so much about your weight?"
"Which woman doesn’t care about her weight? Nobody wants to be fat. Although chubby girls have their own charm, most girls still hope to be tall and slender."
Saying this, Moira Young looked at Joe for his opinion, "Joe, what do you think?"
Joe, who always followed Moira Young’s lead, agreed this time as well. So when Moira Young asked, she nodded without hesitation, "Moira is right, girls like to be slim."
"Being slim doesn’t equate to being beautiful." Aiden replied slowly while sipping the coffee Joe had made.
"Then what does look good?" Moira Young countered.
"You’d look just right if you gained a bit more weight." Aiden looked Moira Young up and down. Despite being all bandaged up, she still looked exceedingly slim, which wasn’t very healthy.
Moira Young gave Aiden a deep look, becoming more resolute in her belief that men indeed prefer girls with a bit of chub.
Even Aiden, who acted all sophisticated, liked girls who were a bit fuller.
Shallow.
Aiden had no idea that his casual comments had changed Moira Young’s perception of him, from respectful and admiring to full of regret.
After all, him being the public’s male idol, having such an ordinary taste was really inconsistent with his image!
Though Moira Young pursed her lips disdainfully, she went straight to the fruit salad.
This was what Aiden didn’t understand the most: why women always talked about dieting, yet had no hesitation when it came to eating.
Julian Sinclair had been quite busy with work lately and rarely had time to visit Moira Young, which gave Aiden more opportunities. Whenever Julian wasn’t there, Aiden was usually in the ward with Moira Young.
Seeing him sitting down to read again, Moira Young couldn’t help but ask, "Are you not busy with work lately?"
"Mmhmm." Aiden replied softly.
"No events?"
"No."
"No filming?"
"No."
Moira Young, after careful consideration, slowly spoke, "Did you turn them down?"
Aiden was silent for a few seconds before calmly saying, "Yes."
"Was it to accompany me?" Moira Young felt a bit embarrassed, sniffing, thinking it couldn’t be for her, a mere junior. Why would Aiden do such a thing for her?
"Yes."
....
Moira Young fell silent again, not even daring to ask why. A man with no blood relation, who’d turn down all work to keep her company, was strange.
If not because of feelings, then what other reason could there be?
She didn’t know how much time had passed, but Moira Young stopped eating the fruit salad and sat up straight, signaling Joe to take the spoon away from her mouth.
Then she looked at Aiden seriously and asked him sincerely, "Why are you so good to me?" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Do I need a reason?" Aiden looked up from his book.
"Of course." Moira Young nodded earnestly, "You are well aware of my relationship with Uncle, yet you treat me so well that I feel undeserving. So I need to know if you like me."
"Yes."
...
Aiden’s reply was straightforward and without hesitation.
He wasn’t lying; liking Moira Young was certain. If he didn’t like her, he wouldn’t have canceled work to keep her company. If he didn’t like her, he wouldn’t always try to keep her entertained with conversation.
Everything he did was naturally out of affection.
Moira Young was stunned. She suddenly didn’t know how to respond, as she never thought Aiden would admit that he liked her so readily.
Even though Aiden had mentioned his liking for her before, she had always thought he was joking, but now his expression seemed too sincere to be fake.
Not only was Moira stunned, but Joe was also taken aback.
When Aiden mentioned liking Moira Young the last time, Joe wasn’t there, but now witnessing the large-scale confession, she was too shocked to speak.
"Professor Webb, are you serious?"
"Yes." Aiden replied softly.
Joe almost had a heart attack, wanting to remind Aiden that Moira Young was already committed. But facing such a remarkable man, she really couldn’t bring herself to say it.
Besides, with both men being exceptional, regardless of whom Moira Young ended up with, she’d surely be happy and at the very least, well cared for.
So she couldn’t bring herself to voice any objections.
However, Moira Young was absolutely frozen, unable to even remember to refuse.
But then Aiden spoke again, "I like you like a sister."
"What???" Joe was dumbstruck.
Moira Young was also taken aback, and after a long moment, she asked shyly, "Senior, are your feelings for me not romantic?"
"Yes." Aiden answered again without hesitation.
Awkward.
Moira Young felt her cheeks flush red, biting her lip in embarrassment, unable to speak for quite some time.
Clearly, he felt only sibling-like affection, yet she had completely misunderstood and nearly righteously rejected his supposed advances. Wasn’t that just too embarrassing?
Fortunately, she wasn’t overly sensitive, and she quickly came to terms with it.
If it’s not romantic feelings then it’s even better, otherwise she really wouldn’t know what to do.
What Moira Young didn’t expect was that Aiden’s feelings for her were exactly the same as her own feelings for Aiden. Could it be some kind of telepathy?
"Moira, can you tell me about your childhood?" Aiden, who was previously reading, suddenly lifted his eyes from the book and asked her.
Moira Young squinted slightly, puzzled, "I think I mentioned it to you before, didn’t I? Did you forget?"
Aiden shook his head, "Not in enough detail."
"My past? Is it that important?" Moira Young was a bit confused, as Aiden didn’t seem like someone with such a curiosity.
"I’m particularly curious about you." Aiden replied sincerely.
"Ah, since you put it that way, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to tell you." Moira Young sighed faintly, falling into her memories.
For Moira Young, childhood memories were nothing short of nightmares. Even though she was reluctant to recall them, since Aiden wanted to know, she started to share her past bit by bit.
Although she herself didn’t understand why she let her guard down around Aiden, she believed he wasn’t a bad person.
Moira Young recounted her life from childhood to Aiden again, this time more clearly than before.
Last time, Aiden just listened quietly. Perhaps after getting familiar, he began to ask questions.
"So you lost your parents at a very young age?"
"I’m an orphan."
Moira Young tugged at the corner of her mouth, appearing to be in a rather somber mood.
