Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 80: We Are Still Good Friends
Wu Yue was stunned. "You’re saying Cao Yuan’s mother ate vegetable buns made from both bitter greens and dandelions at the same time?"
Cao Yuan and Mu Jing looked at Wu Yue in confusion. Though they didn’t understand why she was asking, they still nodded honestly. "We still had some bitter greens left at home, and they were getting a little wilted, so we just made them all into buns together."
Wu Yue clapped her hands excitedly. "Then I know why your Amu’s stomach hurts."
The two young females looked at Wu Yue in astonishment. That was something even the witch had been helpless to solve.
Wu Yue looked at the two of them and said, "It’s best not to eat bitter greens and dandelions together. A strong person might be fine, but if someone is weaker, eating both wild vegetables at the same time will result in symptoms just like Cao Yuan’s mother’s."
Cao Yuan shot to her feet, pacing anxiously in circles. Then, with a look of desperation, she grabbed Wu Yue’s arm. "Yue, since you know the cause, is there a way to treat my Amu’s illness? She’s in so much pain."
As she spoke, tears started to fall from her eyes.
Wu Yue sighed. "I don’t know that much myself."
’I only heard about this folk remedy while watching some countryside shows. I have no idea if it’ll actually work.’
But right now, Cao Yuan was like a drowning person clutching a lifeline. She pleaded, "Whether you can cure her or not, I’m begging you to at least try!"
Qingcao, standing beside her, also nodded. "Yue, why don’t we go and take a look? Poor Cao Yuan."
Wu Yue silently rolled her eyes. ’Cao Yuan is pitiful, but what about me? Am I not pitiful, too?’
’I was the one who got yelled at by Mu Jing’s Amu earlier!’
But in the end, Wu Yue still took the last of the peppercorns from her bundle and followed Cao Yuan to her family’s cave.
The middle-aged female who had roared at Wu Yue’s home earlier today was sitting against the wall, exhausted. She held the hand of the other female, who was lying in a nest of straw.
Her eyes were red-rimmed, a clear sign she had been crying.
"Amu, Yue is here."
Mu Jing stepped forward and whispered in the middle-aged female’s ear.
The middle-aged female startled awake, her gaze falling on the young females before her. Her tired face was filled with deep remorse as she looked at Wu Yue. "Young female, Grandma was in the wrong today. I caused a scene at your home without understanding the situation first."
She took a few steps forward and grasped Wu Yue’s hand. "Grandma apologizes to you. I hope this incident won’t affect the relationship between you girls, and that you can all still be good friends."
Wu Yue took the elder female’s hand, helped her sit down on a nearby straw pallet, and said softly, "I’m not angry with them. I came to see how Cao Yuan’s mother is doing."
Mu Jing’s Amu looked at her in surprise. "You know what’s happened to my sister?"
Wu Yue nodded. "Cao Yuan’s mother’s constitution isn’t as strong as yours to begin with. On top of that, it’s best not to eat bitter greens and dandelions together. Someone in poor health will develop symptoms just like hers," she said, gesturing with her sharp, thin chin toward the ailing woman.
"I have a way to make her much more comfortable, but I’ll need some salt. Don’t worry, I’ll return it to you afterward."
Mu Jing’s Amu was overjoyed at her words and immediately sent Mu Jing to go get the salt.
A moment later, Mu Jing returned with several tall males. Leading them were two sturdy, middle-aged men.
Each of them carried a bulging sack, which Wu Yue knew must be filled with coarse salt.
"I need a fire, please."
The words had barely left her mouth when a strapping young male skillfully stepped forward and lit a fire.
