Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire-Chapter 396: To Dodge
Chapter 396: To Dodge
Rock was overwhelmed with emotion, tears streaming down his face as he struggled to contain his joy. He had prayed for this day, never daring to expect it, and now the news had filled him with an immense sense of gratitude and happiness.
"Oh, goodness," he murmured as William quickly grabbed his arm to steady him. Rain stepped closer, concern etched on her face. "Father, are you alright?"
Though his tears flowed freely, a broad smile stretched across his face. He pulled Rain into a tight hug. "Oh, thank you... Congratulations. I’m sorry. it’s just so overwhelming that I can’t hold it in."
Rain gently patted his back, her voice soft but teasing. "Get ready to be a grandfather soon, Father. And who knows? You might witness more babies running around under your roof!"
Rock chuckled, his joy evident. "Yes, that would be wonderful. I can’t wait for that day." He released her from the hug, knowing the others were eager to congratulate her. As expected, Aunt Melanie quickly approached Rain for a warm embrace.
Meanwhile, Rock turned to Alexander, pulling his son into a heartfelt hug. "Oh, son... I’m so happy for you. Congratulations."
"Thank you, Dad," Alexander murmured. When Rock gently pushed him back, he noticed the tears in his son’s eyes, tears of pure happiness.
Rain spoke up, her voice tinged with a mix of excitement and practicality. "I still want to confirm this at the hospital."
Rock nodded in agreement. "Yes, go visit a doctor. You’ll need vitamins and advice on what to do and avoid."
"Our flight’s in five hours. We have time to stop by the hospital," Rain added. With that, the couple left for their check-up, leaving the rest of the family behind in the billiard hall.
Rock turned to Sanya. "This calls for a celebration, but you and the others have an important event to attend. Clifford’s wedding is a big deal, and I know he’s someone dear to both you and Rain," he said with a sigh.
Vernice chimed in, "The rest of us can celebrate later. I’m sure Alexander and Rain will extend their stay on Palan Island for more celebrations... it’s paradise, after all!"
"Ah, now I’m jealous! I want to go too!" William exclaimed.
Rock frowned playfully. "Then go with your wife."
"But I’m waiting for my mother-in-law’s new identification to be issued today," William explained.
Rock smiled. "Don’t worry, son. I’ll handle it. Besides, I’m thinking of visiting Sanya’s mother myself. I’ll go later with Vernice."
"Alright, then I’ll celebrate with my wife. Who knows? Maybe we’ll..."
"Ouch!" William winced as Sanya pinched him.
"Don’t jinx it!" Sanya scolded. "It’s better not to expect too much."
William laughed, dodging his wife’s playful wrath. "Look who’s talking! You’re the one with a stash of pregnancy tests at home! I bet Rain used one of yours!"
"You’re dead meat!" Sanya yelled, her face reddening as she chased after him.
The family burst into laughter, watching the couple’s antics.
"Those two are so entertaining when they bicker," Vernice said, smiling.
"They really are perfect for each other," Rock agreed.
As the room settled, Ben asked, "Are we continuing the game?"
Rock shook his head. "Let’s rest for now and prepare to visit Sanya’s mother. Ben, come with me to check on the progress with William."
As they walked, Rock sighed. "William was quick to act when he heard Rico Alvarez was flying into the country. He wouldn’t risk any chance of exposure."
"Your boys turned out amazing under your guidance, sir," Ben said, admiration in his voice.
Rock nodded but added, "We must stay vigilant. Changing her identity won’t help if they meet face-to-face. Rico is from the underworld; he won’t be easily fooled."
"Maybe we should consider plastic surgery for Sanya’s mother?" Ben suggested.
Rock stopped and turned to him, frowning. "Ben, are you trying to kill her? She just had major surgery!"
Ben scratched his head sheepishly.
Rock chuckled but then sighed deeply. "I just hope my boys can finally live in peace without villains trying to ruin their happiness."
Ben’s tone turned serious. "I could start working again. I’ll take care of them all."
Rock stopped in his tracks, his expression hardening. "Don’t you dare, Ben, or I’ll kill you myself. You have a family now, a beautiful wife. Don’t make her a widow."
"Of course, I won’t! I’ll stay alive, and so will you," Ben countered firmly, a determined look on his face.
Rock chuckled and patted Ben’s shoulder. "Well... that’s the plan, but we both know it’s not entirely up to us."
"I’ll keep praying for God to give you many more years to spend with us!" Ben said with conviction.
Rock smiled softly, appreciating the sentiment, but then Ben’s expression shifted as he asked, seemingly out of nowhere, "So, what are you planning to do about Vernice?"
Rock raised an eyebrow and smirked. "And since when did you become such a nosybody, huh?"
"Oh, please. We both know why Vernice is sticking around. Look, I know how much you loved Ma’am Alexa, and I’m sure she would want you to move forward. Not to replace her, but to open a little space in your heart for someone like Vernice. You deserve some happiness, and she deserves someone who appreciates her."
Rock tilted his head and grinned. "You? Giving long speeches now? Since when did you become such a chatterbox?"
Ben crossed his arms and shook his head. "See? You’re trying to dodge the topic again, Sir. Seriously, though! We’re not blind. We all see how your eyes light up when you look at Vernice. You smile when she smiles, and you practically beam when she laughs."
Rock chuckled but avoided Ben’s gaze. "You’re imagining things. Besides, Vernice and I... we’re just friends."
Ben rolled his eyes. "Right. And I’m a rookie who doesn’t notice things. I’ve got proof, Sirph... photos, videos! You’ll see yourself staring at her with that same goofy smile. Admit it, she makes you happy."
Rock sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You don’t know when to quit, do you?"
"Nope," Ben said with a grin. "I care too much about you to let you miss out on something good. Just think about it. That’s all I’m asking."
Rock smiled softly, a hint of gratitude in his eyes. "Alright, I’ll think about it. Happy?"
Ben nodded. "That’s a start."
