Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire-Chapter 386: Pray
Chapter 386: Pray
At Lancaster Mansion
"This is too sudden," Vernice muttered, pacing the living room. Turning to Rock, she asked, "When are we going to visit? Arlan needs us. Can we go now?"
She glanced at her watch before continuing, "We have your chemotherapy session coming up. Maybe we should drop by afterward?" Her voice was calm, but her concern was evident.
Rock simply nodded while staring at Vernice. Lately, Vernice had taken charge of everything, even his schedule. He appreciated her support, but guilt lingered; she was doing so much, and he felt like a burden.
"He must be devastated right now. Arlan loved Summer so much," Vernice said, her expression softening with worry. "But what I don’t understand is how Summer suddenly fell into a coma. She didn’t have an accident, and she’s always been healthy. We even went to our annual health check-ups together!"
Rock stood up decisively. "Let’s go now instead."
"Are you sure?" Vernice asked, surprised.
"Yes. My chemo is in the same hospital. It’s better to check on Arlan now rather than wait for William’s update," he replied. "I thought too many visitors might overwhelm him, but having us there might help. Besides, William, James, and Darwin are already with him."
Vernice grabbed his hand, and they walked to the door together. Rock’s gaze dropped to their intertwined fingers. He couldn’t recall when he had started letting Vernice take the lead in everything, but it felt oddly comforting.
As they approached the car, he teased, "Vernice, you’re getting bolder. Don’t tell me I’ll find you sleeping in my room next."
Vernice stopped in her tracks, her hand resting on the car door. Rock braced himself for her signature glare, but instead, she flashed a mischievous grin. Her eyes sparkled with humor as she quipped, "That’s a good idea, Rock! It’s winter, after all. How about we sleep and cuddle together?"
Rock’s jaw dropped as he stared at her in disbelief. Vernice laughed, clearly enjoying his reaction. "Getting a taste of your own medicine, huh?" she teased. "But really, don’t be surprised if you find me in your bed someday!"
Blushing furiously, she slipped into the car, leaving him standing there, stunned.
"I’d better start locking my door," he muttered under his breath, his face pale as he climbed into the car after her.

Meanwhile, Rain was in court when the news broke, so she only learned about it after the trial ended.
Sitting in her office, she bit her lip, feeling a deep restlessness. Her heart ached for Miss Summer, a woman she respected greatly, especially since she had grown up at Haven Orphanage.
Unable to shake her worry, Rain grabbed her phone and called Rico. "Pick me up," she instructed, then informed her staff she was leaving early.
As she settled into the car, her phone rang. It was Sanya.
"Are you going to the hospital?" Sanya asked without preamble.
"I want to, but I don’t think it’s a good idea right now," Rain replied, her voice heavy with hesitation. "I’m heading to the orphanage instead to check on everyone."
Although she longed to visit Miss Summer, Rain knew her presence might cause unnecessary tension, especially with Carla likely at the hospital. The media would also be swarming there, monitoring every development.
The orphanage felt like the better choice. She wanted to provide comfort and strength to the staff and children, who must be devastated by the news.
As the car moved through the city, Rain couldn’t stop the tears that silently streamed down her face. She clasped her hands together, praying fervently for Miss Summer. The woman had always been kind and selfless, and the sudden tragedy weighed heavily on Rain’s heart.
As Rain approached Haven Orphanage, the familiar sight of the modest yet warm building brought a bittersweet sense of comfort. The children’s laughter, which usually echoed from the courtyard, was absent, replaced by an eerie quiet.
When she stepped inside, the staff and children looked visibly shaken. Manager Wilma, who had been a cornerstone of the orphanage for decades, immediately approached Rain with a worried expression.
"Rain, thank you for coming," she said, clutching her hands tightly. "The children are frightened. They’ve been watching the news all day. Mrs. Summer is such a beloved figure here; they don’t know how to cope with this sudden news."
Rain nodded, wiping her eyes quickly so the children wouldn’t see her cry. "We’ll get through this together," she assured the older woman.
Gathering the children in the common area, Rain offered comforting words. "Miss Summer is one of the strongest people I know. She’s always taken care of us, and now it’s our turn to pray for her and send her all our strength."
Mia tugged at Rain’s sleeve. "Pretty Sis, will she be okay?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Rain knelt to meet Mia’s worried gaze. "She’s in the best hands, Mia. All we can do now is hope and believe that she’ll recover soon."
The staff began organizing a group prayer, and Rain stayed with them. Holding hands with the children and staff. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Afterward, Manager Wilma pulled Rain aside, her expression filled with concern. "Rain, with Rosa still out of town, I can’t leave the orphanage, especially now. I’ve been in contact with our other branches, and everyone is desperate for updates. Arlan has shut off his phone, and I heard the hospital is restricting visitors. Do you think it’s possible to get any information through your connections? I heard Arlan is a close friend of your father-in-law."
Rain could see the worry in Manager Wilma’s eyes and nodded reassuringly. "I’ll do my best to get an update. As soon as I hear anything, I’ll let you know. But I’m sure Mr. Cartier will also reach out as soon as he’s able."
She paused, considering her words carefully before adding, "Right now, I think he needs some time. This situation must be overwhelming for him, especially with the recent update that the doctors still can’t determine why Miss Summer suddenly fell into a coma. He’s likely trying to process everything and figure out the next steps."
Wilma sighed deeply, the tension in her shoulders evident. "You’re right. I just wish there was more we could do."
"Let’s continue to pray for her recovery," Rain replied with a reassuring nod. She believed deeply in the power of prayer above all else. Prayer, after all, had the strength to move mountains, Alexander was living proof of that. Through her earnest prayers and heartfelt pleas, she felt God had returned Alexander to her.
Now, she held onto that same faith, hoping it would work wonders once again.
