Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire-Chapter 334: Who Invented Lies
Chapter 334: Who Invented Lies
Days passed as Rain observed Alexander steadily progress in his rehabilitation and therapy sessions. With a dedicated team of professionals overseeing his treatment, she no longer needed to be at his side throughout the day.
Realizing this, Rain decided it was time to return to work. While she cherished being near Alexander, she also understood the importance of giving him space to breathe and adjust without her constant presence. Her close friend Sanya had encouraged the idea, claiming it would be a good strategy to let Alexander miss her.
"You can’t always be clingy, Rain," Sanya had said with a smirk. "If you give him some room, it’ll make him realize how much he wants you around." free𝑤ebnovel.com
Rain chuckled at the memory, admitting to herself that Sanya might have a point. She smiled as she thought about it while getting ready for work. The balance between being supportive and giving Alexander space felt like the right approach. Besides, immersing herself in her own responsibilities would help her feel grounded while he continued his recovery journey.
Rain was almost out the door when she decided she couldn’t leave without seeing Alexander one more time. She peeked into the therapy room where he was busy with his rehabilitation team. A soft smile formed on her lips as she stepped inside.
"I’ll go ahead now," she said cheerfully, catching his attention. Then, without hesitation, she tiptoed and kissed him lightly on the lips. "I’ll see you later," she whispered before quickly turning away, her cheeks flushing with warmth.
She didn’t care that others were present to witness her affection; Alexander had always been openly affectionate with her in the past, and she enjoyed turning the tables on him now. She glanced back briefly as she exited and couldn’t help but grin at the sight of his startled expression and slightly reddened face.
Rain was settling back into her normal routine, though it came with an added layer of complexity. Rico, her trusted driver and bodyguard, had returned to his role. However, this time, William had insisted on enhancing her security despite her initial objections. Michael was already dead, his father was in prison, and Dina was also behind bars.
She had reluctantly agreed, especially after William brought up Tim Clayton. The mention of his name sent a chill through her. She hadn’t faced Tim yet, the man who invented lies about her past.
Rain gritted her teeth, her mind fixating on the DNA test results between her and Kaila Perez... 0 probability. The truth gnawed at her. Who were her real parents? Why had Tim lied to her for so long, keeping her in the dark?
She was determined to confront him, but not yet. For now, she chose to bide her time, carefully pretending she was still unaware of the full extent of his deceit. William was already conducting a discreet investigation, with Brandon’s help.
Still, the questions plagued her. Why would Tim go to such lengths to hide her identity? To make her suffer? There had to be a reason... something bigger, something she had yet to uncover.
The ride to the prosecution office was quiet, and Rain found herself staring out of the window, her thoughts swirling. Rico glanced at her through the rearview mirror but didn’t say anything.
’One step at a time,’ she reminded herself.
When Rain arrived at the prosecution office, her team greeted her with enthusiasm. It felt good to be back in the familiar environment, surrounded by her supportive colleagues.
Entering her private office, she paused when she noticed the small plant Alexander had gifted her sitting on her desk, still healthy and well-tended.
"I took care of it," a voice said from behind, and she turned to see Henry standing at the doorway.
"Sorry, the door was open, so I let myself in," he continued, placing a cup of her favorite coffee on her desk with a grin. "Figured you could use this."
Rain smiled and thanked him, sitting down at her freshly organized desk. Her surprise grew as she realized how much work had already been cleared. "Looks like you’ve been busy," she said.
Henry shrugged casually. "It wasn’t just me. The Chief redistributed some of your pending cases to other teams, so don’t stress about it. It’s your first day back, take it easy."
Rain sipped her coffee and nodded thoughtfully. "I owe everyone so much for stepping up while I was away. I’ll have to make it up to them."
Henry leaned back in the chair across from her and suggested, "How about treating everyone to dinner tonight? A nice meal, some drinks, and maybe karaoke. You know how easily people are won over with food and fun."
Rain chuckled. "That sounds perfect. Let’s do it. I’ll ask Jane to handle the arrangements."
"Great idea," Henry said, standing up. "I’ll drop off a few lighter cases for you to start with today. Tomorrow, you can cherry-pick whatever you like from my desk."
Rain smirked. "You mean your leftover pile?"
He winked playfully. "Call it what you want. I’m just glad to have you back." With that, he exited, leaving Rain smiling at his familiar humor as she prepared to dive into her work.
Soon, Marlon entered and let her review and check the cases, all of which she accepted. She discussed the details with him before calling Jane to inform her to make all the necessary arrangements for tonight’s dinner.
She then messaged Sanya to let her know she would be late for dinner and asked her friend to inform everyone about her dinner with the prosecution team.
She bit her lower lip, debating whether she should call or text Alexander as well. Maybe I should limit being too clingy for now so he can focus more on his recovery. He might get annoyed if I report my every move, she thought.
Ultimately, she decided not to contact him personally, figuring he would hear about it from Sanya later. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if Alexander would ask what time she’d be coming home.
