It was another morning, and William joined the family for breakfast. He planned to share the DNA test results regarding his sister-in-law with everyone. Last night, he had thought about telling Sanya, but after several rounds of making love, she had fallen asleep, completely exhausted.
By the time he woke up, Sanya was already out of bed, managing the household as usual. She always woke early to oversee meal preparations, and with Chef Philip on vacation, she had taken full charge of the kitchen.
Sanya was also accompanying his father to chemotherapy sessions alongside Aunt Vernice, giving Uncle Ben some much-needed rest. Uncle Ben had been heavily involved with GIS recently, helping William with it while he handled the family business while also keeping an eye on his brother’s condition.
During breakfast, the conversation was light until Aunt Melanie finally broke the silence. "Is the DNA result ready?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and apprehension.
William nodded, feeling the weight of their expectant gazes. Taking a deep breath, he announced, "The result is in. Tim is not her father. The probability was zero."
Gasps echoed around the table. Aunt Melanie clutched her chest in shock, while Sanya exclaimed, "I knew it! I’ve always suspected he wasn’t her real father, especially with the way he, Sylvia, and Dina treated her!"
William nodded in agreement. "Exactly. Yesterday, I also requested a DNA test to verify her connection to Kaila Perez, her mother. I want to be thorough and make sure she has the full truth. We’ll know the results later today."
Aunt Melanie took a deep breath, her expression a mix of sadness and relief. "It’s heartbreaking to learn she’s not biologically ours, but honestly, I’m relieved too. She deserves better than the cruelty of Tim, Sylvia, and Dina. I love her like my own niece and always will, but she deserves to know where she truly comes from."
William’s face softened. "She has us... that will never change. But you’re right. She deserves to know the truth, no matter what it is." He paused, a flicker of suspicion crossing his face. "Still, I can’t shake the feeling that there’s more to this. Why would that asshole Tim even go to such lengths to fabricate lies?"
His words trailed off as Sanya gently elbowed him and subtly motioned toward Aunt Melanie, whose head was now lowered. Realizing his mistake, William immediately felt a pang of guilt. Tim Clayton was Aunt Melanie’s brother, after all.
"I’m sorry, Aunt Melanie," he said softly, his tone genuinely apologetic.
Aunt Melanie gave him a small, understanding smile. "It’s all right, William. I love my brother, but even I can’t excuse his actions. Whatever lies he’s told will come to light, and Rain deserves to have her questions answered."
"Make sure you handle everything discreetly, William," his father reminded him, his tone firm yet measured.
"Yes, Dad," William reassured him. He had already taken every precaution to ensure no one discovered his men’s activities at Kaila’s grave. They had obtained a sample from her remains for the DNA test, working under the radar.
According to the reports, no one except Rain ever visited that graveyard, which minimized the risk of exposure. Still, William left nothing to chance, ensuring every step of the process was carried out with absolute discretion.

Clifford stayed at a modest hotel he had booked, waiting for his operatives to confirm the location. He had everything he needed in the room, his computer and laptops used for hacking into the Cosmos Electronics system.
As soon as he learned Rain’s safe, he flew back to the capital, determined not to let Elysium Biotech Institute get involved, especially since Ivan’s research on Kelly’s health was showing promising progress.
"I didn’t get to properly say goodbye to her," he murmured with a sigh, though he knew it was for the best. Staying low was crucial.
Then, his eyes locked on the red signal flashing on his monitor. "They’re here late," he muttered to himself. Almost immediately, police operatives burst into the room.
"Hands up. You’re under arrest for unlawfully accessing the security systems of Cosmos Electronics," one of the officers stated, his tone firm but professional. Clifford raised his hands slowly, complying with their instructions.
The officer continued, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you."
Clifford cooperated fully as the officers escorted him to the car, allowing them to do their job. He kept his hands calmly at his sides, understanding that the situation was beyond his control. Soon, he found himself at the police station for questioning.
As he entered the interrogation room, Rain was already there, standing alongside Attorney Eric Crawford, who would be managing his case with her. The officers allowed them time to speak privately.
"Are you sure you’re okay? You really shouldn’t be here," Clifford said, his gaze sweeping over Rain as he checked if she had truly recovered. After all, she’d been shot, though it wasn’t as serious as Alexander’s injury.
"I’m fine, Clifford," Rain reassured him, her voice calm. "I just want to be here for the initial proceedings. Eric will take over from here. This involves both me and Alexander, and I’ll make sure you don’t see the inside of a prison. You’ll be out of this room soon enough."
With that, Rain took a step forward and enveloped him in a tight hug. "Thank you, Clifford... Thank you so much for not giving up on me and helping Alexander. I owe you everything."
Clifford exhaled deeply, his hand gently rubbing her back.
"No, Rain... This is nothing compared to everything you’ve done for me," Clifford replied, his voice steady but filled with sincerity. "Remember, I’ve always got your back, just like you’ve always had mine."
Rain smiled softly, gently pulling away from their hug. "Thank you, Clifford," she said, her tone warm yet determined. "Now, let’s get you out of this mess. I need to head back soon anyway to report to Alexander and reassure him. He’ll be relieved to know I kept my promise and got you out of here before you end up in prison."
