Surgery Godfather-Chapter 356 - 0338: The Final Judgment_2
Chapter 356: Chapter 0338: The Final Judgment_2
“Court is adjourned!” Along with the sound of the gavel, the three judges and the clerk all stood up and left the courtroom one after the other.
The five-year trial had finally concluded with Zhu Cheng’s victory. The law had defended justice and fairness for Zhu Cheng, but the price he had already paid could not be recovered.
Everyone began to leave the courtroom. Director Tian and Yang Ping accompanied Director Zhu. Director Zhu’s mood was very stable, and Wang Ge was wheeled out in a wheelchair.
The one pushing him was a young man in his twenties, bearing a strong resemblance to Wang Ge. He may be his younger brother, cousin or some other relative.
Director Zhu and Wang Ge encountered each other at the court entrance, stopping three meters apart from each other. Director Zhu smiled at him, then walked over briskly.
One hand grabbed the back handle of Wang Ge’s wheelchair. Wang Ge instinctively avoided his grasp, “What are you trying to do, this is the entrance of the court!”
“No need to panic, Mr. Wang the reporter, I just want to have a few words with you and thank you in person.” Director Zhu moved the young man aiding Wang Ge’s wheelchair to the side.
Wang Ge said to the young man, “Go wait over there, I’m fine.”
Director Zhu held the handles of the wheelchair with both hands and kept pushing Wang Ge along a considerable distance till they reached a secluded area fifty meters away.
“Honestly, I really wanted to thank you. As you may know, I’m now a vice president of a company, with an annual salary of five million. I enjoy paid leave of more than a month a year, work five days a week, only six hours a day. Both I and my family enjoy generous medical insurance, plus at least two public-funded trips lasting up to fifteen days each year. If it weren’t for you, I could never have dreamed of having such a life. Don’t you think I should be thankful for you?”
Wang Ge turned his head to look at Director Zhu, and Director Zhu instantly rotated the wheelchair so that they could face each other, “Don’t look at me like that. I am genuinely thankful. You are the one who step by step brought me to where I am today. You should be my benefactor. Over there, see that Audi A8? It was here to pick me up. For today’s trial, my secretary and driver have been waiting by the door the whole time. Without your help, how could I be here today?”
“You—”
The muscles on Wang Ge’s face twitched, crowding together and creating a grotesque twist. He wanted to say something, but couldn’t squeeze out a single word.
“I really want to know, how can your heart be so dark that you could write such an article, and even when I warned you multiple times that it was false and it was infringing on my reputation, you acted as though you heard nothing. You were prepared to do anything to achieve fame, even destroy others and ignore their pain and survival? Is this your life philosophy?”
“Enough! So what if it is? Look at yourself; have you ever suffered hardship in your life? Have you ever had to study while working labor jobs? Have you ever had to only sleep four hours a day in order to attend university? Have you ever been mocked at university for not being able to afford a good set of clothes? Have you watched the woman you loved go into another man’s arms? I worked hard to get into university, and after graduation I managed to settle in a big city, but what then? Even the woman I love looked down on me. I want to prove myself, want to show that I’m no less than anyone else. Is that wrong? Don’t I have the right to be famous?” Wang Ge was extremely agitated, trying to stand from the wheelchair several times, but his paralysis made it impossible.
Director Zhu was not as agitated as Wang Ge. He remained very calm, “I also come from poverty, even poorer than you. I have always been grateful in my heart. Grateful for the college entrance exam that gave me the opportunity to realize my dreams, grateful for the student loan that allowed me to complete my studies, grateful for the help I’ve received from teachers, classmates, relatives, and friends along the way. What’s wrong with coming from poverty? Many industry leaders come from humble beginnings, they have never had such extreme views like you. They work hard, step by step approaching the peak of their careers. But you, your eyes are always filled with grievances, as if the world owes you. Look at yourself? You’re filled with hostility.”
Wang Ge fell silent, breathing heavily.
Director Zhu’s voice also became quieter, “There’s one more thing I want to tell you, do you know who donated blood to save your life when you had a car accident in Shipo?”
“I don’t care who it was. Donating blood is a civic duty, there’s no need to be grateful.” Wang Ge said coldly.
“You’re wrong, donating blood is a voluntary action, not a civic duty. Let me tell you, I was the one who donated blood to save you. If I hadn’t, you might already be dead.” Director Zhu corrected Wang Ge.
Wang Ge was startled for a moment, then turned to look at Director Zhu. As their eyes met, he immediately looked away, “What a joke, you’re saying all this to get me to thank you? So that I will apologize to you? That’s impossible. Even without your blood donation, I could have lived on because I have a strong will to live.” Wang Ge said scornfully.
Director Zhu shook his head, “No, I’ve never thought of getting you to thank me. Do you know why I saved you?”
“You’re just being hypocritical—” Wang Ge said scornfully.
“Actually, I hesitated at that time, wondering whether I should save you or not. But then I thought, no matter from which angle, I should save you. If you realized your mistakes, repented and started anew, started to do something meaningful for society, I should save you. If you were obstinate, continuing to harm others, I should also save you. You should live and accept punishment step by step!”
“You?—” Wang Ge pointed at Director Zhu.
“Alright, don’t always be so agitated, like the whole society owes you something. Go rest well when you get home, life is still long. Next, your press card should be revoked, and you’re likely to lose your job. Soon, like me, you will face the difficult problem of changing jobs. Think well about what you should do next.”
“Lastly, I’ll leave you with this: don’t bully honest people—goodbye!”
Director Zhu walked away quickly, said his goodbyes to Yang Ping, Director Tian, and thanked everyone for their help.
The Audi A8 was parked not far away, the assistant opened the door and waited by the side. Director Zhu got into the car and made a goodbye gesture to Wang Ge.
Wang Ge sat in his wheelchair, his hands furiously hitting the armrests. As his whole body twitched uncontrollably due to rage, the wheelchair toppled over.
