Surgery Godfather-Chapter 1959 - 1338: The Scientific Community Is Not Pure
One week later, Lele’s body seemed to be going through a silent and complex system reconstruction. Daily analyses of blood, urine, and metabolites showed the immune system was slowly and steadily relearning balance. Those overly active inflammatory pathways were gently inhibited, dormant regulatory pathways cautiously awakened, and metabolic disorders precisely corrected.
This indicated the regulation scheme was effective and marked a successful attempt of system regulation theory in non-tumor fields.
"It’s like repairing... a ... highly precise instrument." Xu Zhiliang described, "every... minor adjustment... affects the entire system."
In fact, the treatment process was far more complex than repairing an instrument. Every morning, Yang Ping, Xu Zhiliang, and the entire medical team spent three hours analyzing the complete data from the previous day, then adjusted the day’s plan based on Lele’s real-time body responses.
"This is the essence of system regulation," Yang Ping said at the symposium, "it’s not about ’administer the drug and wait for results’, but a dynamic process of ’intervene-observe-adjust-reobserve’. Every patient is a unique complex system, and there is no one-size-fits-all plan."
On the morning of the seventh day, when Yang Ping was conducting a routine examination on Lele, the child asked a question, "Doctor Yang, once I’m better, will I not need to draw blood every day?"
"It will be much reduced," Yang Ping said gently, "but you may still need periodic check-ups."
"Will I be able to go to school then?"
"Once this treatment is completed and the indicators stabilize, you can go to school."
Lele’s eyes lit up, for a child long hospitalized, the word "school" represented anything possible about returning to the normal world.
At eight in the morning, Tang Shun came to the head office of the ward with the latest developments in the case involving three countries.
"Progress is fastest on the American side," Tang Shun said very excitedly, "The California prosecutor has officially charged the head of that comprehensive medical center, Dr. Smith, with major medical negligence, fraud, and patent infringement." Tang Shun opened the tablet computer, "During the search of his office, the police found a detailed ’customer relationship management manual’, which recorded how to screen ’vulnerable wealthy patients’, how to package the treatment with the ’Nobel Prize halo’, and how to guide patients to blame ’the theory itself’ when they experience adverse reactions."
Yang Ping’s expression turned cold: "So, our complaint was part of his plan?"
"Correct, there’s even a Chapter in the manual called ’crisis transfer strategy’, which describes in detail how to shift blame to the original theory team if the treatment fails." Tang Shun turned to a page of a screenshot, "Look here—’when patients experience adverse reactions, emphasize that this is an inevitable risk of cutting-edge science, imply that the Yang Ping team has concealed these risks’." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Song Zimo also entered, bringing news from the United Kingdom: "London police transmitted the latest situation. The head of the ’alternative medicine center’, Catherine Weber, used to be a student of Hans Berg. Police found encrypted email exchanges with Berg on her computer, timing right after our award was announced."
Hansberg? This isn’t an ordinary person, a well-known German medical professor.
"Email content?" Yang Ping asked.
"Some have been decrypted, Berg provided a detailed interpretation of our early papers in the emails, pointed out ’which parts could be simplified, which risks could be hidden’, and suggested that she ’target wealthy chronic disease patient groups who are disappointed with traditional medicine and easily accept new concepts’." Song Zimo had a grave expression, "Worse still, Berg also provided a ’simplified treatment plan’ he had edited, removing all content about monitoring, adjustment, and risk disclosure."
Yang Ping closed his eyes, academic controversy escalated into commercial conspiracy, a renowned scholar became an accomplice in medical fraud, this fact is more distressing than any attack from competitors.
"What about Japan?" he asked.
Zhang Lin happened to come in: "There was a breakthrough in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s interrogation. The president of that biotechnology company, Yamada, admitted their concept of ’system regulation biological agent’ was generated after attending Professor Berg’s lecture at an international conference. Berg told them in private exchanges after the lecture, ’It’s a commercial blue ocean’, and provided a ’simplified theoretical framework’ for them to package the product."
The clues from the three countries all point to the same name—Hans Berg.
"Professor, should we make these public?" Tang Shun asked.
"No," Yang Ping said after contemplating, "these are police investigation evidence, not to be disclosed before formal charges. Besides..." he paused, "Berg is an internationally renowned scholar, publicizing now may be seen as revenge, let the legal process complete."
"But he’s clearly been manipulating all this behind the scenes!" Zhang Lin said angrily.
"Then prove it in court," Yang Ping said calmly, "with solid evidence, not a trial by media."
At ten in the morning, Lele began the final stage of the regulatory treatment. This phase’s focus was not on inhibiting or activating a particular pathway, but on stabilizing the entire system at the current equilibrium point.
Yang Ping explained to Lele’s parents, "It’s like learning to ride a bike, initially you need training wheels, then slowly remove them to let the child find their own balance point. What we’re doing now is the process of removing the training wheels."
The treatment was very gentle, simply halving the drug dosage from the previous phase again.
