Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 479 - 252: Playing the Fool to Outsmart the Enemy (Part 4)
Howard Geoffrey arrived shortly after and went to the surgeon’s office with Skyler Jones.
Rebecca Quentin held Andrew and entered the ward with Mrs. Geoffrey to see Marilyn Quinn.
Marilyn Quinn looked much weaker than yesterday, her face completely devoid of color.
Christine Quinn sat at the bedside, trying not to show any unusual expression in front of the child, but the slight swelling around her eyes revealed her worries.
Mrs. Geoffrey lovingly asked Marilyn Quinn, "My dear granddaughter, you have a good sleep later, and you won’t feel uncomfortable when you wake up..."
Eleven and a half years old, Marilyn Quinn was no longer a child. She knew she was about to enter the operating room but didn’t want everyone to worry about her. So she tried her best to show a smile on her weak face and instead comforted the adults, "Grandma, mommy, aunt, don’t worry about me, I will stay strong."
Christine Quinn couldn’t stop her tears upon hearing these words...
Marilyn Quinn raised her hand with the IV drip to hold Christine Quinn’s hand. "Mommy..."
Christine Quinn quickly wiped away her tears and wrapped Marilyn Quinn’s hand, "Mommy is here..."
With an oxygen tube in her nose, Marilyn Quinn’s voice sounded even weaker, "If I say something now, will you all agree to it?"
Christine Quinn, Rebecca Quentin, and Mrs. Geoffrey all nodded simultaneously.
Marilyn Quinn smiled happily, "I want to wait until daddy and Uncle Geoffrey arrive to say it together."
Christine Quinn was already sobbing uncontrollably, "Okay..."
Not long after, Skyler Jones and Howard Geoffrey entered the ward with several doctors.
After a simple examination, the doctors informed them that the surgery would begin soon. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Before the doctors and nurses pushed Marilyn Quinn into the operating room, Marilyn Quinn brought up the matter they had just agreed to.
Naturally, everyone nodded in agreement.
Marilyn Quinn, seeing everyone nod in agreement, finally shared her wish, "Daddy, mommy, Uncle Geoffrey, aunt... can you come over here."
The four adults naturally stood beside Marilyn Quinn.
Marilyn Quinn spoke slowly, "Daddy, you hold mommy’s hand, and Uncle Geoffrey, you hold aunt’s hand..."
Marilyn Quinn’s sudden request made the four adults slightly startled.
Mrs. Geoffrey urged, "Do as she says..."
So, amid Marilyn Quinn’s earnest request, Skyler Jones held Christine Quinn’s hand, and Howard Geoffrey held Rebecca Quentin’s hand as well.
Marilyn Quinn looked at them holding hands contentedly and, filled with hope, said, "I hope when I am discharged, daddy can be with mommy, and Uncle Geoffrey can be with aunt... Can you promise me that?"
Who would have thought Marilyn Quinn would make such a wish...
Christine Quinn wanted to explain the situation to Marilyn Quinn, but Mrs. Geoffrey shook her head at Christine Quinn.
"You always taught me to fulfill the promises we make to others, so you can’t go back on your promise to Marilyn."
The faces of all four showed different expressions, yet they were equally heavy.
"Marilyn, daddy promises you, when you’re discharged, daddy and mommy will be together."
No one expected Skyler Jones to be the first to speak at this time.
The adults present understood that Skyler Jones’ words were meant to reassure Marilyn Quinn so she could go into surgery peacefully, but his willingness to say it proved the greatness of fatherly love.
"And what about Uncle Geoffrey?"
Besides Rebecca Quentin, everyone else looked toward Howard Geoffrey.
When everyone thought they were facing a difficult situation, Howard Geoffrey’s magnetic, deep voice calmly responded, "Uncle Geoffrey also promises you to be with your aunt for life."
Rebecca Quentin looked up at Howard Geoffrey in surprise.
At that moment, Howard Geoffrey seemed to cooperate by holding Rebecca Quentin’s hand tightly...
Marilyn Quinn finally smiled contentedly.
After Marilyn Quinn was pushed into the operating room, everyone began a long wait.
Andrew, needing to cooperate for Marilyn Quinn’s surgery, was taken by a nurse to the blood draw room next to the operating room after Marilyn Quinn entered the ward.
Mrs. Geoffrey avoided witnessing Andrew cry during the blood draw and did not follow into the blood draw room.
At this moment, Rebecca Quentin held Andrew while sitting on a chair waiting for the nurse to draw blood.
Since entering the blood draw room, Andrew had been restless, constantly struggling in Rebecca Quentin’s arms, calling out to "Daddy," seemingly aware that this was a frightening place.
Rebecca Quentin finally understood why Howard Geoffrey comforted Andrew in the hotel earlier; he already knew about Andrew’s fear of needles.
Sure enough, as soon as the nurse approached with the needle, Andrew started crying loudly...
Howard Geoffrey crouched beside Rebecca Quentin, comforting Andrew, "Don’t be afraid, daddy is here..."
Andrew reached out to Howard Geoffrey, asking for a hug, pitifully calling out, "Daddy..."
Howard Geoffrey shook his head.
Seeing how heartbroken Andrew was, Rebecca Quentin couldn’t bear it either and couldn’t resist asking the nurse, "Will it be quick, right?"
The nurse replied, "The child’s veins are small; if the needle is inserted smoothly, it will be quick; otherwise, it will be slower."
Rebecca Quentin furrowed her brows, "Does ’not inserted smoothly’ mean it needs to be done again?"
The nurse nodded, "Yes."
Rebecca Quentin felt frustrated.
Oh dear...
She herself was afraid of needles, let alone a child.
Howard Geoffrey sternly told the nurse, "It’s just inserting a needle; if you’re not confident of doing it right, find someone who can do it with one stick."
Knowing Howard Geoffrey’s status, the nurse nodded warily, "Okay."
Under the comfort of Howard Geoffrey and Rebecca Quentin, Andrew gradually quieted down...
Finally, it was the head nurse who came to administer the injection to Andrew. With her experience, the needle was inserted accurately, so the blood draw was smooth.
Yet, during the blood draw, Andrew wailed loudly in Rebecca Quentin’s arms...
Due to the child’s thin veins, drawing thirty milliliters took one or two minutes, during which Andrew cried out of breath while the needle was inserted...
Seeing this, Rebecca Quentin felt heartbroken, her eyes reddened...
Andrew kept twisting in Rebecca Quentin’s arms, writhing constantly despite several nurses helping to hold him, as they dared not press too hard, making Andrew struggle fiercely...
No wonder Mrs. Geoffrey wasn’t willing to come in; such a scene was indeed unbearable...
Tears streamed down Rebecca Quentin’s face...
Just as Rebecca Quentin felt she could no longer bear it, she was suddenly embraced by someone.
