Chapter 1122: Chapter 1121: Murphy’s Law

There’s a law in this world called Murphy’s Law: Whatever you dread most is most likely to happen.

Watching the silhouette outside being withdrawn, Lin Yiran’s heart involuntarily sank.

At this rate, they really might end up as scapegoats.

As for her, if something really happened here, the reputation the Lin family painstakingly built would be ruined.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but feel anxious, tugging vigorously at Xu Ke’s arm and whispering, "Isn’t there anything you can do?"

"Do? What can I do? Even a powerful dragon struggles against local snakes. In their eyes, at most, we’re just inconsequential bugs!"

"But, but..."

"What? You’re scared!" Xu Ke looked at her with disdain, provoking her.

Unexpectedly, Lin Yiran did not retort sharply, leaving him somewhat unprepared.

"Yes, I’m scared! I was wrong before. If you still have a way, tell me, as long as we can get through this, I, I..."

"What about you?"

"I’ll treat you better in the future! Give you a raise, buy you a car, or..."

Lin Yiran racked her brains trying to think of ways to improve Xu Ke’s conditions, but hearing her words, the interest Xu Ke had just piqued vanished completely.

This woman ultimately hadn’t changed; she never cared about what he wanted, and what she could offer was never what he desired.

Just like before, she gave him that cup of latte.

Having said so much without receiving any response from the person beside her, Lin Yiran couldn’t help but frown, poking Xu Ke’s arm forcefully.

"Say something!"

"What do you think there is left to say between us?" Xu Ke shifted his body away from her a little, sounding impatient.

"Then what do you want? As long as we return safely, I’ll agree to anything you say!"

"Are you sure?" Xu Ke squinted his eyes, his gaze fixed on her.

The seriousness of his expression made Lin Yiran’s heart skip a beat, but she forced herself to muster the courage, gritting her teeth, "I’m sure! But you can’t go too far, or else I..."

"Alright, remember what you said today!" Xu Ke stopped talking, stood up from the chair, and hooked a finger at the surveillance camera in the corner of the wall, "I know you’re watching us. I’m giving you three minutes. If you don’t want to lose more face, get over here. Of course, you can choose not to come, but I hope you’re prepared for the consequences!"

Xu Ke said no more, pacing around the room with his arms crossed while time ticked away.

When the three minutes were up, Xu Ke immediately flung open the door, and a group of bodyguards rushed in, engulfing Xu Ke in an instant.

Inside, Lin Yiran’s mouth gaped open, and she covered her eyes with her hands, unable to bear watching.

A series of crisp sounds ensued, and the piled up figures kept falling, gradually thinning out.

When the fighting figures slowly faded away, Lin Yiran cautiously peeked outside, her heart pounding wildly as she saw the distorted figures.

The blood spilled on the ground tightened her chest painfully, and for some reason, her first instinct wasn’t to run but to find Xu Ke’s figure.

"Where is he? Was he taken away? It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t forced him to find a solution, none of this, none of this would have happened..."

Not finishing her thought, she immediately dashed down the corridor, only to be stopped by two figures.

Her face went pale, and she stumbled, turning only to find her way blocked from behind too.

"What... What do you want? Stay away, don’t come near..."

With frantic, flailing arms, she finally noticed that the four security guards weren’t advancing, merely blocking her path.

Meanwhile, several figures appeared in front of Xu Ke, clad uniformly in black suits and dark sunglasses, making Xu Ke curl his lips disdainfully.

"Just a few guys think they can stop me?" He sneered coldly and charged forward.

Admittedly, these guys were a lot stronger than the previous security guards, but only on par with the two assassins he had subdued before, perhaps even weaker.

Previously, he could easily overpower those two thugs with a burst of power, and now, even with a few more, it was no problem at all.

Still fuming inside, he showed no mercy and with just a few moves, knocked them to the ground, standing proudly in the middle, not bothering to glance at the fallen figures. Just then, a streak of light flashed, darting to his face in an instant.

A palm shot up at that very moment, moving so quickly it blurred the eye. Xu Ke snorted coldly, stepped forward, not dodging, and swung a punch in response.

Several cracking sounds echoed, and both of them staggered back. The other man’s steps danced, and after five paces, he stabilized himself.

Xu Ke slid back a few steps, his body vibrating as he halted his retreat, casting a casual glance at the man, only now seeing that he was a man in his thirties.

Compared to the muscular builds of the other bodyguards, this man was leaner and taller. The originally handsome face bore a hint of ruthlessness and grimness, shadowed by the scar at his brow.

When Xu Ke looked at him, the man was also sizing up Xu Ke.

His flickering gaze shot out a sharp presence, like weapons slicing through the air.

A glance was enough for Xu Ke to know this guy wasn’t an ordinary fighter, the pervasive scent of blood so intense it made him unconsciously twitch his nose.

"You’re quite good, I haven’t come across anyone who could take a punch from me in a long time! Again!"

Parting his lips, revealing rows of sharp white teeth, the man shouted and charged again.

It had been a while since Xu Ke encountered a true master, and his interest was piqued, his feet moving to meet the challenge.

"Stop!" Suddenly, a voice rang out from the side, carrying an aged tone yet laced with undeniable authority.

Hearing the voice, the man immediately withdrew his punch and stood still. Xu Ke didn’t expect him to actually hold back, hurriedly twisting his body to redirect his punch into the air.

"The explosive power of this guy, even in the past, was rarely seen, his control effortless; this punch technique, he must have practiced to perfection!"

Xu Ke murmured to himself, then turned towards the side.

An elderly man with graying hair strolled over, his cane striking the ground, the sound crisp yet slightly jarring.

Despite his appearance of benevolence and kindness, his face wore a light smile as he walked.

Reaching the side of the man who was stopped, he lifted his cane and tapped the man’s shoulder, chiding, "How many times have I told you, but you just won’t listen! Before you act, think it over; if matters can be resolved with words, don’t resort to fists! Isn’t that right, Mr. Zhou?"

"Peace brings prosperity, the old man’s words are indeed true!"

Xu Ke straightened his attire, displaying a calm demeanor.
