Supreme Devil Lord: I Can Refine All Energy-Chapter 65: Ba-Dum!
Middle City, Paul’s house...
Elena was anxiously pacing about in the courtyard while Riya, equally anxious, was sitting in a chair beside Hannah, who was trying to calm her down.
"It’s night already. Why hasn’t Big Brother returned yet?" Riya looked toward the door, chewing her soft, pink lips in worry.
She and Elena had come out of their rooms in the afternoon when Vivian told them Eric had left in a hurry a few hours earlier and had said he would be back soon.
They waited and waited, but he didn’t return, which worried them, but when he didn’t return even when night had fallen, they started panicking.
Vivian and Hannah had been trying to calm them down, but to no success.
A short while ago, Vivian tried dragging them inside the house, saying she needed their help to prepare dinner, but they refused to leave. So, Vivian had no choice but to leave Hannah to look after them while she went in. Though she wanted to stay with them, she needed to prepare dinner soon because Frank and Hannah needed to eat early so they could go to bed on time.
"Something might have come up. Don’t worry too much, Riya. He will be alright. He is a Warrior, after all." Hannah said, her eyes glowing.
No one had specifically told her that Eric was a warrior, but she had heard it from her mother when she was trying to console Elena. She couldn’t believe it for a moment, thinking she might have misheard.
Although her father himself was a Grade Three Warrior, and her teacher and quite a few of her classmates from rich or noble families were also Warriors even though they were younger than her, the fact Eric was a Warrior had really surprised her because he was from the slums and didn’t have the same resources as them.
She knew becoming a warrior wasn’t easy, even if one had resources. Her younger brother, Frank, was an example because even with the teacher’s guidance and resources their father had given him, he still hadn’t become a warrior. So, it was a little difficult for her to believe Eric was a warrior.
There were two things one needed to successfully become a warrior: talent and resources. Though some would argue one was more important than the other, in her opinion, both were equally important. However, she also knew one could compensate for the other to some extent.
For example, if someone had a low talent for cultivation, he could compensate for it with more resources and become a warrior, though it would be a little difficult because, from what she had learned from the academy, those who had a low talent found it more difficult to open their spirit veins and sense the spirit energy.
She knew if Frank, who just had One Star talent, could get more or better resources than what her father was able to provide him, he could become a warrior sooner.
’Sigh, he is still better than me, who has no talent whatsoever.’ She sighed in her heart, suddenly feeling down. Then she wondered, ’I wonder what Eric’s talent level is for him to be able to become a warrior with meager resources and probably little to no guidance?’
Riya calmed down a little upon hearing her words but then became worried again. "But he just recently became a warrior and isn’t strong enough yet. If he encountered some problem, he would have a hard time coming out of it without being harmed."
Though she didn’t know much about cultivation in general, she knew the warriors had different grades from one to five, one being the weakest and five being the strongest. Her big brother was just a Grade One Warrior and therefore shouldn’t be too much stronger than an ordinary healthy person from what she knew. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"This..." Hannah was tongue-tied, not knowing what to say. However, just then,
Knock!
She heard someone knock on the door, and her eyes lit up. "It must be Eric." She said, standing up, but before she could move to open the door, Elena had already rushed over and had opened the door.
"Big brother!" Riya cried out in relief and excitement as she jumped out of the chair and rushed over.
...
A while ago, Eric brought Liam’s trio and Rosalie to the middle city checkpoint, paid for three days’ stay for them, and extended Elena, Riya, and his stay for three days too. For seven of them, it cost him a little less than 600 credits, leaving him with just a little over 100 credits.
After that he brought them to an inn not too far away from Paul’s house and rented two rooms for them to stay for 24 hours, using up those credits too. Fortunately, the rent included breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so he didn’t have to worry about spending extra on their meals.
By the time they settled in their rooms, the night had already fallen. Knowing Elena and Riya would have already found out that he wasn’t at home by now and must be really worried, he rushed toward Paul’s house at his fastest speed.
’I should have asked Vivian to not tell them that I had gone out.’ On the way, he couldn’t help but scold himself.
Upon arriving, he knocked on the door before taking a deep breath and wiping his sweat, readying himself for some scolding.
Creak~
Shua!
A few moments later, the door swung open, and he was only able to see that it was Elena who had opened it when he found himself in a tight embrace.
"Big brother!"
Then he heard Riya’s cry and saw her rushing over with tears falling down her cute face. Arriving near them, she also hugged him tightly. Though he felt good being embraced by these two beauties, the fact that they were crying because of him made him sigh.
For a while, he didn’t say anything and embraced them, gently patting their backs before he said in a soft voice, "I’m sorry that I couldn’t return sooner and caused you to worry. Now, will you two stop crying and let me tell you why?"
While Elena pulled away after a moment and looked at him with a look that told him if his reason wasn’t good enough, he would be in for a lot of scolding, Riya did not move away from him and instead tightened her hold around him.
Eric smiled wryly before bending down a little and putting his hand under her thighs and lifting her up in a princess carry.
"Ah~"
Riya let out a cute, surprised squeal before throwing her arms around his neck for support and burying her face in his chest to hide her blushing face.
Eric brought her inside the courtyard, and after arriving next to the stone chairs, he asked, "Will you get down now?"
"...No." Riya muttered, which made him heave a deep breath. Then, as his heart rate increased slightly, he sat down on the chair and made her sit in his lap, facing him, her legs going around his waist and out of the gap below the armrests.
Ba-Dum! Ba-Dum!
He could feel Riya’s heart beating rapidly against his chest and her body shivering in his lap as she held her breath and lay against his chest.
His heart was also beating like drums, and he could tell she could also feel it, which made him nervous.
Then when he saw Elena come over after locking the door and look at him with a peculiar look in her eyes, he tensed up, thinking she was going to get angry at him before pulling Riya away from, but to his surprise, she didn’t say anything and instead calmly sat down on the chair next to his before asking,
"Tell me..."
