Supreme Devil Lord: I Can Refine All Energy-Chapter 47: System Shop
Ten minutes later, Eric was sitting on the floor in his room, looking at the container of spirit stone powder placed in front of him with an excited look on his face.
Taking a deep breath, he placed his hand on it and ordered, ’Refine it!’
[It’ll cost the host 3 units. Do you—]
’Yes, refine it.’ He said before the system could finish its routine question.
Weng~
A white halo enveloped the powder, and just a moment later...
[It’s done, host.]
"That was quick." He muttered, slightly surprised. It had taken the same amount of time to refine this little less than half a kilogram spirit stone powder that it took to refine that handful earlier.
He then looked at his status screen. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
[Refined Energy: 45]
"Nice!" He couldn’t help but exclaim in excitement.
’I can easily become a grade two Novice Cultivator with this much refined energy, but I think I should first strengthen my physique. But to do that, I need a...’ His gaze flickered as he asked the system, ’System, when are you going to give me the physique refinement technique?’
[Host, it can only be given in quest rewards, or you can buy it with Refined Energy.]
Eric acted as though he hadn’t read the latter part and said, ’Give me a quest then.’
[Host, the quests can’t be generated whenever.] Was the system’s curt reply, and it made him furrow his brows.
’If I had chosen to take control, I would’ve gotten everything, right?’ He asked, feeling he had made a wrong choice, but the system’s answer reminded him he had not.
[That’s correct, host. However, at that time, you would’ve been overwhelmed and wouldn’t have known what you were supposed to do. And most likely, it would have led you to your death in the near future.]
He sighed. Though he wasn’t sure that it would kill him, he agreed with the first part.
’Alright. Tell me how much refined energy I would need to buy it.’ He asked.
[Once the host has 100 units of refined energy, the system’s trading function—shop—will be available to the host. The host can buy the physique refinement technique and anything else available in the shop at that time.]
’So, now I need to gather 55 more units before I can buy it?’ He asked, his face drooping.
[That’s correct, host.]
Eric took a deep breath, shook his frustration away, and asked, ’What happens to the 100 units of refined energy then? Will I still have them, or will they be used to unlock this shop?’
If it was the latter, he would rather try his luck in the middle city’s market; maybe he could find a physique refinement technique there? Though he knew the chances of it happening were low to the point they were negligible.
Why?
It wasn’t because there weren’t any such techniques in the market, but because he had heard everything cultivation-related, except the spirit stone powder, was regulated by the Kroft family. Even if you had enough credits to buy them, you couldn’t without having the Kroft family’s permission.
Then he remembered Andrew Kroft, and his expression fell further because, as he couldn’t show his face to the people of the Kroft family, at least not until he was strong enough to face them, the chances of him trying his luck to get the permission to buy the technique fell to zero.
A moment later, he smiled bitterly, ’It’s not like I could buy it with just five thousand credits even if I got the permission.’
...
Soon morning arrived and Eric woke up.
Last night, he wanted to go to Vivian, take the credits, and go buy more spirit stone powder, but since it wasn’t safe to walk around with something so precious, even in the middle city, he decided to, reluctantly, postpone it to the next morning.
And because he was quite tired from running around and exerting himself several times, he quickly fell asleep.
After he quickly freshened up, he walked out of his room.
Creak!
Almost at the same time, the door to the room beside his opened, and a young, healthy-looking boy walked out.
Though Eric could tell this boy, Frankie, was even younger than Hannah and Riya, he was almost as tall as him, 5’8’’.
He also noticed him and was about to ask something when he noticed that Eric was wearing his clothes and raised his brows in question, "You are father’s guest?"
Eric nodded and asked, "Yes. You must be Frankie, right?"
"My name is Frank, not Frankie." Frank said in a complaining tone.
Eric nodded, "My bad, Frank."
"It’s fine." Frank nodded before saying with an awkward look on his face, "You are going for breakfast, too, right? Let me show you the way."
Saying this, he started walking in front, clearly not wanting to talk to him. Eric didn’t mind it. If he were in his place, he would be uncomfortable talking to a stranger too.
They soon arrived in the dining hall and saw Hannah and Riya talking cheerfully to each other, sitting on the dining chairs while Vivian and Elena were in the kitchen, preparing the breakfast while occasionally talking to each other.
Eric was relieved to see they weren’t tense like yesterday.
In front of him, Frank, after looking at Riya and Elena, looked at his sister and mother, who both were smiling, and muttered, "It seems father is not home."
Eric heard him and then saw his uptight figure relax.
Right then, Frank seemed to remember Eric was right behind him and stiffened. Seeing this, Eric sighed. As he walked by him, he patted his shoulder and said, "Don’t worry. I didn’t hear anything."
Frank heaved a sigh of relief hearing this and shot him a grateful look.
Riya and Hannah noticed them and greeted them with a smile on their beautiful faces, "Good morning, brother Eric, brother Frank."
"Good morning!" The duo greeted them back before taking a seat at the table. A short while later, Vivian and Elena arrived with food.
Elena wanted to help serve, but Vivian glared at her, "You already helped me more than enough. Now, sit down and eat."
"You didn’t let me do anything." Elena responded, shaking her head.
"How could I? You are injured and shouldn’t move too much. Alright, now sit down." Vivian said and served everyone food.
A while later, everyone was done eating. Riya and Hannah help Vivian take the dirty dishes to the kitchen. After which, Hannah and Frank, after saying bye to Vivian and them, left the house for the Kroft Academy, where they studied.
Eric could see a longing look in Riya’s eyes as she watched them leave.
He then went to Vivian. He didn’t need to say anything as Vivian took out a light blue crystal card similar to his and gave it to him. "Here, it’s not bound to me."
Eric nodded, thanked her, and under Elena and Riya’s questioning gazes, left the house, but not before saying, "I’ll explain it to you two after returning."
Over half an hour later, he arrived in the bustling middle city market and swept his gaze across various stalls and shops selling different things before walking deeper into the market.
