Supreme Devil Lord: I Can Refine All Energy-Chapter 43: Uneasy
The girl flinched at his harsh tone before lowering her head and saying in an aggrieved tone, "I was sleeping. I woke up when Mom barged into my room. She then told me to come here and tell you that she is preparing dinner for our guests and you should let him wash up and change his clothes."
Paul raised his brows before nodding, "Alright. Go, take him to the guest room next to Frankie’s room and show him how to warm the water in the bath. I’ll bring him a set of my clothes to wear."
After instructing her, he glanced at Eric, "Go, boy. Wash up and return for the dinner."
Eric inwardly sighed in relief and nodded before sitting up and walking over to his daughter, who was clearly not happy with the task given to her but had no choice but to obey him.
As Paul watched Eric walk out of the living room, a trace of anger and disdain flashed in his eyes, ’Worms, indeed! Can’t appreciate my good intentions.’
Then, he shook his head and sighed, ’Why am I even trying to be a gentleman? Since I will be providing for them now, I can just take what I need, and Elena wouldn’t resist since she came to me herself.’
He licked his lips as he thought this, a lustful, predatory gleam flashing in his eyes.
’I can finally taste her.’
...
Eric silently followed her, his brows furrowed. He was regretting agreeing to Elena’s decision to come here. Even more, he regretted the fact that he didn’t turn around when Elena told him Paul was about to become a grade two Novice Warrior almost a decade ago, which meant he even if he was just a grade two novice warrior, he wouldn’t have been able to handle him, let alone now as he turned out to be a grade three.
After talking to him, or rather hearing him talk, and seeing how his wife and daughter seemed to be scared of him, he could discern what type of man Paul was and knew he would make his moves on Elena and probably even on Riya, given how he had looked at her, soon.
"Um, hey, what’s your name?"
"Huh?" The sudden voice startled him out of his thoughts. Only then did he notice the girl was no longer walking in front of him but beside him, and was looking at him with a curious look on her face.
"Let’s introduce ourselves since it seems we’ll be living together now, for some time at least." She said before doing an awkward bow, "I’m Hannah. Nice to meet you."
Seeing she was trying to greet him formally, Eric also did the same. After she stood up, he bent down slightly, grabbed her free hand, and gently placed his lips on the back of it before saying, "I’m Eric, my lady. Nice to meet you, too."
He was also awkward like her, as people in the slums didn’t greet each other like this.
As he released her hand and looked at her, he noticed her eyes had widened and her adorable face had turned red.
"Cough! It was my first time greeting someone like this. So, forgive me if I did something wrong and made you uncomfortable, Miss Hannah." He said, trying to calm her down.
"N-No. You... didn’t do a-anything wrong." Hannah said, hiding her face behind the pillow. She then took a deep breath and added, "I was just caught off guard."
"Good." Eric smiled, sighing in relief.
She then led him toward the guest room.
While walking, Eric realized the house was bigger than it seemed from outside. ’A grade three Novice Warrior earns good money, huh.’ He thought.
Just then, Hannah asked, "That little girl, Riya, she is your sister?"
"Little?" Eric looked her up and down with interest.
The look on his face made her blush in embarrassment, and she chided, "What’s with that look?"
"It’s funny to hear you call her little when you both are around the same age." Eric said with a light chuckle.
"Hmph! I’m taller than her. Also, how old is she right now?" Hannah hurrumphed.
"..."
Eric was speechless and couldn’t smile at the irony of it all.
’Younger people like to act or make themselves look old while the older people do the opposite.’
Normally, he would have stopped speaking, but her angry and naive reactions were adorable, so he decided to humor her, "She will be 17 in the next month."
Hannah’s eyes lit up, and she said with a smug look on her face, "I can call her little because I’m already 17 years old and in just a few months will turn 18."
Eric took another good look at her and sighed. ’If Riya had proper nutrition growing up, she would also look younger than her age.’
Seeing Eric become silent and a little sad, Hannah said, "Hey, I mean, Sir Eric. I don’t know what happened or what kind of lives you have lived until now, but everything will be alright. So, don’t be sad, alright?"
Eric couldn’t help but look at her in surprise, hearing her comforting words.
Hannah thought her words had moved him and felt good in her heart, but then she heard him say...
"You rarely go out of this house, don’t you?"
Immediately, her expression fell, becoming downcast before she glared at him, "What do you mean by that?"
Seeing her reaction, he knew he was right. She was a sheltered girl and hadn’t seen the world much.
’No wonder she still has a kind heart.’ He thought. Though there were people who still had kind hearts despite experiencing the treacherousness of the world, they numbered very few.
Seeing she was still glaring at him, he smiled lightly and said, "I meant that because you don’t meet bad people outside, you are still a pure lady."
Hannah continued looking at him for a few moments, her eyes narrowed in suspicion before she nodded, "Of course, I am. Now, let’s go."
They soon arrived in front of the guest room.
Eric glanced at the room beside it and asked, "Frankie is your brother?"
"Yes. My younger brother." She replied as she opened the door and pointed at the attached bathroom, "You’ll see white powder on a stand beside the bathtub. Put some of it in the hole at the top of the bathtub after filling it with water. The inbuilt water heating formation will activate and heat the water in a few minutes."
Eric nodded. "Thank you for the help, Miss Hannah."
Hannah nodded, turned around, and walked away. However, after taking a few steps, she stopped and turned around.
However, seeing Eric had already entered the room and had closed the door behind him, she pouted her lips, "He didn’t answer my question."
...
Inside the room, Eric swept his gaze across the large bed, plush sofa, tiled floor, etc., his eyes shining.
’It won’t be long before we have our own house and things like these, or maybe even better than these.’ He thought, his fists clenched.
Then, he proceeded to ignore everything and walked toward the bathroom.
...
Vivian was in the kitchen, preparing dinner while occasionally sighing.
Since Paul and Elena’s husband were best friends, she had met Elena several times.
She remembered Elena looking like the most blessed woman in the world. She had a vibrant personality and always had a smile on her face, which put everyone else at ease.
Now, however, she was nothing like her past self.
"What are you sighing for?" She suddenly heard Paul’s gruff voice behind her and was startled out of her thoughts.
"You startled me." She said, patting her chest.
Paul narrowed his eyes. "You?"
Vivian’s face fell, and she lowered her head as she said, "I’m sorry. I meant to say, lord husband, you startled me."
"So, what were you thinking? About Elena’s situation?" Paul asked,
"Yes. It’s very pitiable. She was so happy back then, and now... sigh. She didn’t deserve this." She sighed.
"You are right." Paul nodded, "That’s why I’m going to turn her into a happy woman again."
Vivian’s eyes widened when she heard this, "You don’t mean..."
"I mean just that. And I don’t want to hear any complaint from you. In fact, I want you to do your best to convince her." Saying this, he turned around and walked away, leaving Vivian staring dazedly in front of her.
A moment later, tears dripped down her eyes.
...
Half an hour later, Eric walked into the dining room and immediately felt the tension in the air.
Paul, Elena and Riya were sitting around the dining table in the dining room, and Vivian was serving them food, an expressionless look on her face.
’What’s going on?’ He thought when he saw her expression before looking at Elena and Riya, who looked uneasy.
"Come, boy, sit and eat." Paul ordered, gesturing to the chair beside Riya.
Eric came over and looked at Elena and Riya with a questioning look, ’did he say something?’
In response, Elena shook her head and that only puzzled him more.
