Chapter 37: What’s This Scent?

Swoosh!

An hour later, the sky was darkening, and Eric could be seen rushing toward his house.

’I shouldn’t have let my emotions control me.’ He thought, but there was a smile on his face. Clearly, despite his worry of being late and making Elena and little Riya worry, he had thoroughly enjoyed himself in this last hour.

As he had expected, after becoming a cultivator, his stamina had increased, and he no longer needed to constantly worry about finishing early. In fact, he had freely tried different positions with Rosalie, and when he left, she wasn’t able to properly walk, and her face was like a freshly watered flower.

Just remembering it ignited a fire in his loins.

As he ran toward his house, he looked at his status screen.

[Name: Eric Valtharion]

[Age: 18]

[Race: Half Devil]

[Bloodline: **** (Dormant)]

[Cultivation: Novice Warrior (Grade One)]

[Refined Energy: 3→6]

[Physical Attributes]

>Strength: 9→21

>Agility: 12→19

>Defense: 6→13

>Vitality: 7→17

>Dexterity: 7→13

>Stamina: 9→20

{Skills: Essence Harmonizations Technique (Basic), Inspect (Basic)}

Seeing his increased, almost doubled, physical attributes, he nodded in satisfaction and then asked,

’System, how strong am I compared to normal grade one Novice Warriors?’

[Compared to normal Grade Novice Cultivators, the host is slightly stronger.] The system responded, and almost simultaneously, another piece of information appeared in his mind, which made him sigh.

It turned out, if a person was physically stronger before becoming a cultivator, when they became one, their physical attributes would increase even more as the Novice Warrior realm was focused on the body.

For this reason, most people would start training physically a few years before they started cultivation so they could reap more benefits and create a better foundation for the future cultivation.

Normally, if a cultivator was as weak as Eric was before becoming a cultivator, the maximum enhancement he would receive in his physical attributes wouldn’t be more than fifty percent, and they would be amongst the weakest grade one Novice Cultivators.

Fortunately, Eric had the system’s Refined Energy, which was superior to normal Spirit Energy. It nourished his body better and made it possible for one fold enhancement, placing him firmly amongst the realm of average grade one Novice Cultivators.

[The host doesn’t need to worry. Although having a better physique before one becomes a cultivator certainly helps, it doesn’t mean if one was weaker, he wouldn’t be able to improve as much. With the system’s refined energy and a good Physique Refinement Technique, the host would be able to eliminate his disadvantage.]

Eric nodded before asking, ’So when are you going to give it to me, the Physique Refinement Technique?’

"..."

The system didn’t respond. He tried asking for a few times more, but the system remained unresponsive, making him smile wryly.

With his increased speed, he took less than ten minutes to reach his home and immediately saw Liam and Riya pacing about in front of the house.

He sighed seeing this and approached them.

As soon as they saw him, both visibly relaxed before the became angry.

"Why did you return so late?!" Both shouted, making him recoil.

"I..." He began to speak, but Liam coldly interrupted him, "You weren’t at my house because I know my mother and Elsa wouldn’t have kept you there until so late."

Eric sighed, "Yeah. I wasn’t there."

"Then where were you?" Riya asked, her eyes misty. "Didn’t you know we’d be worried if you stayed out for such a long time, especially with Luke acting up?"

Seeing she was about to cry, he took a step forward and hugged her. Riya tried to push him away but couldn’t, which surprised her. Although she wasn’t as strong as him, when she tried, she could push him away, albeit a little. Now, however, she couldn’t move him even a bit, and she felt as though she was trying to push a wall.

"I’m sorry. I wanted to return earlier but had no choice." Eric said, gently caressing her back.

Riya immediately calmed down and snuggled into his chest. Just as she was about to ask what did he mean by not having a choice, she wrinkled her tiny nose and mumbled, "What’s this scent?"

Eric immediately froze and cursed in his mind, ’Fuck!’

He wanted to take a bath before returning, but there was no water left in Rosalie’s house. He had thought he would stay away from Elena and Riya before quickly taking a bath, but seeing she was about to cry, he hugged her without thinking.

He then felt her hand rubbing his shirt, "Hm? These are not your clothes either..."

Swoosh!

He immediately pushed her away, and before she could ask anything, he spoke up, "Has El—Mom woken up?"

Hearing this, Riya immediately forgot about the scent and his clothes and hurriedly told him what Elena wanted to do, which made him frown.

"I’ll go talk to her." He said and entered the house.

Riya followed him in, and Liam, after narrowing his eyes, sighed and also went in.

-

Elena was looking at him when Eric entered and was about to speak when he walked toward the bathroom, "I’ll be with you in a minute, Mom."

Unlike Riya, he knew Elena would immediately know what he had been doing. So, he had to wash Rosalie’s scent away before going near her.

Unfortunately for him, Elena had heard Riya’s voice earlier. Now, seeing his clothes and slightly messy hair, she had already guessed something, and that made her frown.

A while later, he returned, wearing a fresh pair of his clothes.

Seeing Elena’s gaze, he knew she had noticed and blushed slightly before putting on a serious expression as he sat beside her. After asking about her injury, he asked, "Who’s this uncle?"

"He is... your father’s best friend. He didn’t know we were still living here; otherwise he would’ve—" Elena started trying to convince him, but Eric interrupted her, "He is not a good man, right? Tell me the truth."

Elena averted her gaze before saying in a low voice, "Not really. But if we go to him, he will take us in."

Eric frowned, not liking it. Riya looked at him with a hopeful gaze.

"Mom—" Eric began to say when Elena looked at him sternly and said, "We are going. That’s final."
