Superhumans of the Dome City-Chapter 1378 - 4: White Moon, Black Palace
The walls and floor were covered with a layer of displaced edges, and in the dim candlelight, two flames clung together. Gongsun Ce, without taking off his glasses, experienced the world of those with visual impairments as everything before him became a blurry double image. That indescribable sense of distortion was almost nauseating, as if another identical world had overlapped with reality, indistinguishable from truth and lies.
Gongsun Ce immediately looked around him and found that the people around him had no strange "double image" phenomenon. However, he saw non-existent phantom figures, wandering inside and outside the stone room like transparent phantoms, talking and laughing or quietly meditating. He quickly stepped out of the stone room and looked outside, finding the Qin residence unusually crowded. Phantom figures, both old and young, roamed throughout the vast mansion, and cultivators and supervisors were seen conversing everywhere. Sometimes, real members of the Qin clan would find themselves aligned with these figures, and at those moments, their outlines would overlap like lifeless objects.
Forcing himself to regain his true vision, Gongsun Ce’s Netherworld Eye within him began to stir violently. This normally introverted and timid giant dragon component was unusually active, its frantic vibrations resembling an avenger facing its lifelong arch-enemy, trembling and screaming to tear the foe apart.
Killing intent indeed appeared in reality. Black and red flames flashed, and the Silent King emerged from the fire. She looked down at the sleeping Yan Qi, seemingly troubled yet disdainful.
"It is the only history of the Fan Ding Realm," she said. "His past has been entangled."
"What do you mean?" Gongsun Ce frowned. "Isn’t it the King Pingdeng’s doing?"
"Hasn’t that onlooker already told you? He did nothing, merely chose the best timing to descend." The Silent King sneered, "Hurry up. If the Order King’s invasion isn’t resolved, all of you will perish." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Gongsun Ce felt that she spoke more than before and appeared more "human-like" as she interacted with and understood the current world. The Silent King seemed to be becoming more like a human rather than a king. After giving her evaluation, she was about to turn and leave as she had done several times before, but Gongsun Ce hurriedly called out to her.
"Wait a moment, Miss Silence! For the sake of our long collaboration, could you help resolve a doubt?"
"What doubt?" She stopped.
Gongsun Ce spoke solemnly, "Between the Order King and King Pingdeng, which do you think is a greater threat?"
"Threat? To this precarious world you live in? If you insist on preserving this false peace, then the greatest threat to you..."
The Silent King slowly turned her head, a hint of mockery in her flaming eyes.
"...is me."
She turned and disappeared into the Tribulation Flame, not looking back. The longsword in Gongsun Ce’s heart trembled for a long time, emitting a shrill cry. His gaze followed the dispersing black-red flame, feeling a heavy weight on his shoulders.
This time was different from before; the Silent King was no longer a reliable ally. The deaths of the four monarch giant dragons severely impacted the real world. King Pingdeng could already descend with an avatar, and the Silent King’s freedom would only increase. Her body, still present, was sealed in the form of the Final Sword within his heart. On the day she truly descends, the world will be consumed in flames.
Gongsun Ce sighed heavily, "Don’t be like this, Miss... at least we could join forces to take down the last two dragons before a final showdown..."
He knew his clumsy words were useless; the Silent King was not someone who could be swayed by words. Yet he habitually made small talk, hoping the woman in the fire would turn back.
The silent perspective shared by the two faded away, revealing the real world where Shiyu Ling was waving at him with a shocked expression: "Hey, what was the deal with you talking to yourself in the corner? You look like a high schooler who had a crush on the class belle for three years only to be heartlessly dumped!"
"You’re mistaken. I saw a tsundere villainess who fought alongside the hero through hardships, always saying, ’Hmph! Next time I won’t help you!’ But this time, she left a farewell note and really plans to go back to the Demon King City to play her role as the apocalyptic demon king." Gongsun Ce said with a deep expression.
"That sounds more painful than unrequited love," Qiluo remarked.
"Who says it’s not?" Gongsun Ce shrugged. He turned to Liu Zhongwu and said, "I think I understand the situation, is it the erosion of the Fan Ding Realm? Just like the United Sealing conceals a world of secrets, the Empire seals a world of kings?"
"Correct, and unlike the sealing relying on the power of all beings by the Legendary Saint, the Empire’s sealing responsibility rests on the emperors’ shoulders through generations." Liu Zhongwu said with a serious face, "The central sealing of the Time-Space Dragon · Fan Ding Realm is in the Divine Capital Taiqing Palace, below the reigning emperor’s seat."
Gongsun Ce frowned, "But I felt the erosion coming from the moon..."
"Your perception is not wrong." Liu Zhongwu smiled slightly, "The Divine Capital’s palace is just a facade. The true palace of the Yong Guang Empire is inside the moon, overhead of you and me."
·
Moon, Taiqing Palace.
Chi Zijing stepped over the white jade stairs and walked into the pitch-black clusters of palaces.
The ink-black structures inside offered no glimpse of natural light, the empire’s true palace, cold and desolate. Even though incense burned day and night, and the surrounding lamps shone bright, they could not conceal the eerie feeling brought by emptiness. Since childhood, Chi Zijing always thought Taiqing Palace had been named wrongly; it should have been called Guanghan Palace as in mythology, vast and frigid like a magnificent mausoleum. In an emperor’s life, they spent most of their time in this tomb until they abdicated or died, returning to the ground to age and silently pass away like a fallen leaf returning to its roots.
