Superhumans of the Dome City-Chapter 1318 - 143: Boy Meets Girl_3
"No problem, I haven’t had a sandwich in a long time." Gongsun Ce shrugged, "Do you have any recommended shops?"
Alandia smiled in return, remembering a piece of news that would make her companion very happy.
"Back to Dawson Street."
The Sky Clear quickly returned to the familiar street, pausing briefly behind the place where they once lived. Gongsun Ce rubbed his eyes hard as he got out of the car; the little café they used to frequent was still there, now with a trendier makeover, brand new display windows, and the tables changed from old-fashioned elderwood to pretty oak, but the wind chime at the door was the same as before, jingling as the door opened.
He pushed the door open and saw a handwritten sign saying "Free for everyone today," with an unfamiliar middle-aged man busy at the counter.
"In the capital for a tour, young man?" The new owner was jubilant, "Feel free to pick out anything you like, take it and go!"
"Two ham sandwiches with hot coffee, no sugar." Gongsun Ce smiled at him, "What happy occasion are you celebrating?"
"The most tremendous news, as if the Holy King has appeared. My mother—the former owner of this place—came back to life from the crystal. Over the past few days, countless families have been celebrating similar fortunes, I assure you, there hasn’t been a better day in Supibia for four years!"
"That’s wonderful." Gongsun Ce nodded vigorously in agreement, "Nothing could be better."
He took the sandwiches the owner handed him back to the car and sang King Morton’s country anthem "God Bless Our Country" loudly. Alandia laughed, "You sound just like a countryman."
Gongsun Ce grinned widely, "No country gentleman would sing so carefreely, I’m a streetwise vagabond from Cangdu!"
After leaving the capital, Gongsun Ce began driving with telekinesis, making the car speed as if it were the wind, quickly leaving the riverside cities behind and heading into the quiet northern fields. Gongsun Ce deviated from the route to Kulin City, seemingly intending to drive all the way to the forest beneath Steel Sword Edge, which was sparsely populated due to occasional wild beasts.
Alandia felt a bit anxious again, worried he would stubbornly hold his course. At that moment, Gongsun Ce finished his sandwich, pointing at an oncoming car on the other side of the road, he mumbled, "Divorced and single, raising a son and a daughter, plans to remarry soon."
Alandia knew he was talking about the driver of that car and habitually tapped her hat, "Not detailed enough, he plans to remarry because the wedding ring box beside him looks slightly old, clearly wanting to win back an old love with gifts from the past."
"A cheapskate could also regift old presents to new partners." Gongsun Ce countered.
"You have a point." Alandia nodded, "But do you think he is?"
"Well... I would prefer the guy we passed on the roadside to be a generally ’good person’." Gongsun Ce shrugged, "The second car after the grey Buick, the green painted truck, he’s a fitness instructor with a record."
"Fraud or intentional harm."
"I bet a pound on the latter."
They tirelessly discussed the driver’s identities, the passengers’ family backgrounds, what they were doing, and where they were headed. The long-neglected observation training brought joy to the knight and the assistant. There are plenty of sharp and intelligent people in the world like them, but few who can enjoy this process. Perhaps that’s why a detective and his assistant always travel together; beneath seemingly different exteriors, they are so similar in essence that it’s hard to find another companion outside of each other.
As night fell, the Sky Clear entered a forest path, with no other cars in sight on the single lane. The night forest was moist and serene, and without objects to observe, the two still remained enthusiastic, turning their attention to each other.
"Your glasses were a birthday gift from your family." Alandia said. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Gongsun Ce pushed his glasses, "Why?"
"Living in the capital of Cangdu and knowing Miss Mapan, you couldn’t possibly not have treated your myopia." Alandia pointed out, "You deliberately pretend to have poor eyesight to use this gift reasonably; you don’t want their present to gather dust."
"Quite perceptive, madam detective, you saw right through my childish thoughts." Gongsun Ce pouted, "Your pocket watch was a gift from your father, congratulating you on joining the Knight Order, for the same reason."
"You’re right."
Gongsun Ce placed one hand on the steering wheel, animated, "But I bet your father said something else, like you could give the watch as a gift to someone you trust... Otherwise, Loneles wouldn’t have been so surprised when he saw me with the watch, right?"
"He advised me to give ’time’ to a loved one." Alandia removed her hat, "But you chose it as a gift before I could give it away, so it never came to fruition."
"I have great taste!"
Gongsun Ce wore a victorious expression, which piqued Alandia’s competitive spirit, prompting her to talk a bit more deeply for once.
"Your self-destructive impulse is deeply connected to your ability."
"Do tell."
"I think every highly dangerous superpower user understands the nature of their power at the moment of its awakening; that’s the ’instruction manual’ bestowed by the Kings. But your telekinesis sometimes exhibits strange properties, which clearly contradicts your public statements." Alandia looked into his eyes, "But I’m certain you haven’t lied, so you cleverly sidestepped the issue—playing a childish word game."
Gongsun Ce scratched his head vigorously, "I can’t take it, just how well do you understand me? Fine, I’ll admit it, the so-called ’telekinesis’ is actually an abbreviation, the true nature of my ability is..."
