Chapter 1332: Chapter 1382: Affectionate Miao Girl

After leaving the gorge, Li Yifei did not loosen his grip on Na Yi. His nerves were still on high alert; the deadly ambush set here suggested that danger might still lie ahead.

Na Yi clung tightly to Li Yifei’s waist, her side profile constantly turned toward his face. Her eyes shone with a passionate gaze, and her face bore a sweet smile.

"Na Yi, where should we go?"

After walking for over ten minutes, Li Yifei had entered a forest. Although this made it easier for the enemy to hide, it also allowed him to remain concealed. Obviously, the environment favored him more. If the enemy knew who he was, they should have never set an ambush here—it would be futile against him.

During these ten minutes, Na Yi remained silent, leaving Li Yifei unsure if he was heading in the right direction. When he turned to look at her, he caught her gaze, brimming with affection. His heart skipped a beat; he was all too familiar with this look—it was the gaze of a girl falling in love.

Though Na Yi was undoubtedly beautiful, Li Yifei had no thoughts of romance toward her. At this moment in his life, no matter how stunning the woman, he had no intentions. Yet somehow, Na Yi seemed to be smitten with him. Could this be what people mean when they say Miao girls are deeply sentimental?

Li Yifei hastily released Na Yi, signaling at her to guide the way.

Na Yi giggled sweetly, glanced around, and pointed toward a certain direction before pulling Li Yifei’s hand and leading him forward.

Li Yifei felt somewhat uncomfortable as Na Yi held his hand. Her hand was soft and pleasant to the touch, but he was genuinely afraid she might start imagining even more. Yet since he needed her guidance and feared lurking enemies, he had no choice but to follow her lead.

They walked for about half an hour, crossing the forest and reaching a small valley. In the valley stood a cluster of over twenty stilted houses. Na Yi excitedly pointed at the area, chattering to Li Yifei.

Li Yifei realized this must be Na Yi’s home—the same general area Yao Lingfu mentioned, and possibly a place where some people knew the Worm Technique. He followed Na Yi downhill toward the valley.

When they reached the village entrance, two young men suddenly appeared, blocking Na Yi and Li Yifei’s path. Na Yi immediately started speaking excitedly, but the two men eyed Li Yifei with vigilant stares tinged with hostility.

Feeling the men’s animosity, Li Yifei grew intrigued. An ordinary village wouldn’t block outsiders, especially one surrounded by high bamboo fences with only a few guarded entry points. It was definitely no ordinary village—and potentially one with many skilled in the Worm Technique.

After Na Yi’s explanation, the two men finally nodded. Na Yi excitedly grabbed Li Yifei’s hand and led him into the village, virtually skipping with joy.

The village had few people, but the ones who saw Li Yifei and Na Yi looked at him curiously. Their gazes made him feel as though someone like him was a rare sight.

Eventually, they arrived at a bamboo house. Na Yi eagerly pointed at it before pulling Li Yifei into the courtyard.

A Miao man around fifty years old was in the yard. He frowned slightly when he saw Li Yifei and Na Yi together. Na Yi, however, joyfully ran up to the man and started talking to him.

The man said little, occasionally glancing at Li Yifei. When Na Yi finished speaking, the man walked up to Li Yifei and said, "Hello, my name is Bunong!"

"Hello! You actually speak Mandarin! That’s amazing!" Li Yifei exclaimed in surprise. Communication had been a concern for him in this area, but finding someone who spoke Mandarin was a great relief.

"I can speak a little, but not very well," Bunong said, his Mandarin unpolished and slow but still understandable.

Li Yifei nodded repeatedly and replied, "I can understand. Uncle, my name is Li Yifei."

"Thank you for saving my daughter, Na Yi."

Li Yifei quickly responded modestly, "It was nothing—I happened to be there."

"Then please come upstairs and take a seat," Bunong said with a smile, inviting him.

Li Yifei readily agreed. Even if Bunong hadn’t invited him, he still wanted to talk with Bunong—to gather information and, hopefully, enlist him as a guide. A local who could help him communicate in Miaojiang would be invaluable.

The three of them went upstairs to a second-floor room and sat on the floor. Bunong and Na Yi sat together, while Na Yi kept staring at Li Yifei with gentle, watery eyes that didn’t shift away for a moment. This made Li Yifei feel immensely uncomfortable, but Na Yi showed no intention of retreating and smiled even brighter. Bunong, meanwhile, didn’t seem bothered by his daughter displaying such affection for a man right in front of him.

"Li Yifei, what brought you here? This is already the deepest part of Miaojiang—common travelers rarely reach this place," Bunong asked.

Li Yifei had prepared his answer in advance. He smiled lightly and said, "I simply enjoy traveling. I’m especially fascinated by China’s ethnic minorities. I want to learn about their customs and traditions. Although some of this can be learned from books, I hope to experience the untainted cultural essence of these ethnic groups firsthand. That’s my dream."

Bunong nodded and replied, "Indeed, our village is disconnected from the outside world. We’ve grown used to this lifestyle; the outside world doesn’t interest us. Apart from my occasional trips to procure necessities, no one here leaves the village.

Curious, Li Yifei asked, "But I noticed your farmland is limited—how do you support yourselves?"

Bunong explained, "We rely primarily on hunting, as well as gathering fruits and other resources from the mountains. The abundance of Miaojiang ensures we don’t go hungry."

Li Yifei nodded repeatedly and said, "Such a natural way of life must be wonderful—I truly envy it."

Bunong chuckled and said, "Well, tonight you’ll share a meal with us. If the food isn’t to your taste, I hope you won’t mind."

Li Yifei quickly expressed his gratitude. "Thank you very much!"

"No need to thank me. You saved my daughter, so treating you to a meal is the least I can do," Bunong said warmly.

After some polite exchanges, Bunong continued, "Na Yi mentioned that along the way, you encountered armed attackers, and you managed to overpower them?"

Li Yifei nodded and replied, "Yes, but I’m not sure who they were. By the way, could they have been bandits?"

Bunong shook his head and said, "There are no bandits in this area. This is strange; I’ll have to investigate what they were up to."

Li Yifei promptly said, "Alright, Uncle Bunong, please take care."

Bunong quickly left to make arrangements. Li Yifei didn’t stop him—he knew that while the bodies were still there, the opposing group would likely have others come to deal with them to avoid detection. He was certain they wouldn’t leave any evidence behind.

The men had been killed with Flying Needles—a technique Na Yi didn’t understand. She only thought he had subdued them.

Once Bunong departed, Li Yifei began regretting not tagging along with him. Now faced with Na Yi alone, he really didn’t know how to handle the situation.

Na Yi gave Li Yifei an enchanting smile, then stood and ran out of the room. This allowed Li Yifei to breathe a sigh of relief—perhaps Na Yi, facing him alone, felt embarrassed too.

But within two minutes, Na Yi returned holding a tray of fruits, which she placed in front of Li Yifei.

Li Yifei quickly accepted the offering. The fresh mountain fruits looked appetizing, and he took one and started eating while responding to Na Yi with a courteous smile.

Na Yi sat in front of him, watching him eat. After Li Yifei finished one fruit, she immediately handed him another. He had no choice but to continue eating.

One fruit after another, Li Yifei ate six or seven pieces while Na Yi continued gazing at him with a joyous expression, as though merely watching him eat brought her happiness and satisfaction.

Though the fruits were small and didn’t leave him overly full, being stared at by Na Yi made him increasingly uncomfortable. Spending the entire day with her meant he hadn’t had any private time, and now the number of fruits was exacerbating his urge to relieve himself. At first, he managed to hold back, but her relentless gaze only heightened his discomfort and urgency.

"Na Yi... where’s the restroom?" Li Yifei asked hesitantly.

Na Yi responded with a sweet smile and offered him another fruit. Li Yifei quickly waved his hand. "No, not that. I mean the restroom... oh, you don’t understand—where I can pee..." He tried miming and making sounds to clarify, but Na Yi still looked puzzled.

Left with no alternatives, Li Yifei pointed helplessly at his crotch, wearing a bitter smile.

Na Yi froze for a moment before her face suddenly turned bright red. She grabbed Li Yifei’s hand and led him into a room. Relieved, Li Yifei exhaled—finally, it seemed she understood. However, upon entering the room, he was stunned. Was this supposed to be a restroom? This was clearly a bedroom!
