Chapter 173: Chapter 110: Strange World_3

Yan Fei entered the room and discovered that it was indeed Wen Rou’s room, with some of her personal items still in place, but Wen Rou had disappeared without a trace. Yan Fei sat down on the chair with a surge of fear in his heart.

Ever since he had acquired the Drone Avatar, Yan Fei had faced innumerable challenges and overcome countless painful ordeals, but he had never encountered such a bizarre situation. Between heaven and earth, it seemed he was the only one left. The surrounding silence was maddening, Wen Rou’s whereabouts unknown. He had walked around outside, only to return to the same place, and even his Drone Avatar could not be sensed. The situation he was facing had become insurmountably difficult.

Yan Fei sat in a daze for a while before a determined look appeared on his face. Although he was facing an exceedingly strange situation, he was far from surrendering. He had to find Wen Rou and leave this place safely together with her. He walked out of the room once more, headed for the temporary parking lot, and moved toward the highway leading to the outside world.

This time, Yan Fei was especially careful. He carefully observed the direction in which he was heading to avoid unwittingly circling back due to the dense fog. As he walked, he marked the highway with stones to prevent himself from retracing his steps. This time, he indeed managed to travel a greater distance. More than an hour later, he again saw the indistinct shape of buildings through the fog up ahead.

A chill ran through Yan Fei’s heart. He couldn’t clearly discern what these buildings were, but he was certain he had returned to the original Dai Ethnic Village. Because when he arrived at the village yesterday, the minibus had travelled on the highway for over two hours, especially during the last hour which was all within the mountains, and he had not come across any inhabited structures. He had walked for just over an hour, and because of his precautionary measures to avoid going in circles, his pace was very slow. As a result, he had not gone far, certainly not more than the first attempt. Seeing the buildings faintly visible through the fog once more, he immediately knew he had returned to the starting point.

Yan Fei looked down at the highway and did not find any marks he had left. How had he come back here then?

Unable to find an answer, Yan Fei dragged his weary body forward, only to come across the temporary parking lot and the tour bus he had damaged. His strength vanished all at once, and he couldn’t help but collapse to the ground. He had been cautious, even leaving marks on the road, and yet he had still ended up backtracking to the original place, filling him with immense despair.

Yan Fei sat on the ground for a while before getting up. More than three hours had passed since he woke up, but the white mist still filled the surroundings without any sign of dissipating. The sky was still dimly lit, with the sun nowhere to be seen, casting doubt on whether his sense of time was accurate.

By this time, Yan Fei harbored deep suspicions about the fog. The situation he was facing could not be naturally occurring because a naturally forming fog couldn’t shroud such a vast area for so long, make every person and animal disappear, and prevent him from leaving the mountain stronghold regardless of where he went. There must be some reason he couldn’t understand at the moment.

But Yan Fei did not know how to break out of this unfavorable situation, as this was also the first time he had encountered such circumstances. He was definitely in danger, so he had to get out of this predicament. And he needed to find Wen Rou, too. He couldn’t bear to imagine her getting hurt…

Unable to resolve this peculiar situation, Yan Fei could only continue searching within the village, hoping to find some useful information to break out of this unfavorable circumstance. To his disappointment, none of the items in the village could help him leave.

With no other choice, Yan Fei continued towards the highway leading to the outside world, hoping for a miracle. But reality disappointed him once again, and two hours later, he found himself returning to the same spot through the fog, and everything was back at square one.

The spirit Yan Fei had forced up suddenly relaxed, and he fell into deep fatigue. Lying on the ground, he stared blankly at the vault of heaven enshrouded in fog above, but the sky was a blanket of white, with nothing visible.

Yan Fei felt a sense of despair. If he were facing a formidable enemy, he could fight head-on. Even if he were no match, he could still escape. Never had he felt like he did now, facing an unseen foe, unable to even find a direction to exert his strength against.

And just when Yan Fei was engulfed in despair, from within the fog came a faint singing. He was startled, and he quickly sat up, his face showing a focused listening expression. The previously silent world was suddenly filled with a singing voice, not particularly melodious, but to Yan Fei at that moment, it sounded heavenly. When he first heard the singing, he thought he might be hallucinating, as he hadn’t heard any sound other than his own for hours. Now suddenly hearing another voice, he doubted his own senses.

The singing from the fog was soft, but to Yan Fei, who hadn’t heard another sound in a long time, it was incredibly loud. He rapidly stood up and followed the sound. As he moved forward, the singing grew louder and clearer.

When Yan Fei broke through the fog to arrive at the large stone at the top of the village, he finally saw a small figure amidst the fog. This small figure appeared to be a child, with their back to Yan Fei, squatting on the ground, fiddling with something on the ground while swaying back and forth, humming an unknown tune.
