“The air there is better and especially in the evening, Ye Chen goes there to read.”

“No, they bump into each other.”

“Bumping into each other, every evening? That’s more like dating!”

Luo Rui hastily replied, “Certainly not.”

“You don’t even know what your mistress is thinking about.” Jiang Shizi continued, “If Zhan Ze bumps into them, it’s sure to be a misunderstanding. This foolish girl, isn’t afraid at all, still going to the pear blossom woods for romance.”

“Has it really become so serious?”

Shizi was startled. Finding her bearings quickly, she sensed trouble. Rushing over to the pear blossom forest, sure enough, she found the two culprits there, proclaiming, “You two are really here, entangled in romance.”

“What romance? We just ran into each other,” Ye Chen turned around and looked at Shizi.

“I witnessed a man from Dongfang Tang pass the message to another from Yingyun Pavilion. I suspect that news will soon reach Zhan Ze.”

Ye Chen hurriedly got up, exclaiming, “Damn it! They’re making it seem like I’m sneaking off to be unfaithful.” He promptly left.

Shizi glanced at Guo Yuqing; though surprised, Qing’er didn’t get up. Instead, she seemed lost in thought.

“Aren’t you going to leave?” Shizi asked.

“I want to see if Zhan Ze will show up.”

“You’re waiting for him to come?”

“I’m not a rat. Why should I run?” Yu Qing lay back down.

Seeing that Ye Chen had left, Shizi let out a sigh of relief.

When Zhan Ze heard someone mention that Qing’er and Ye Chen were found in the pear blossom forest and had been there every evening, he found it hard to believe. However, he felt the need to confirm it for himself.

As he approached the rockery, he was hesitating. He couldn’t bear the thought that something might be going on between the two of them. Despite his reluctance to believe the news, he had to see it for himself. He was filled with unease at the thought of how quickly things seemed to have progressed between them.

Damn Ye Chen! Wasn’t he done with Qing’er? How could he be meeting her privately at the rockery?

As he strode up the rockery, unsure how to face the truth, his inner turmoil was evident. If the hearsay was true, how should he react? Would he lose his temper?

After climbing over, he found two people on the rockery. However, to his surprise, it wasn’t Ye Chen and Qing’er but Yu Qing and Shizi.

As Shizi was scanning her surroundings, she noticed Zhan Ze emerging from the rockery.

Upon catching Shizi’s gaze, Yu Qing turned her head to look; she actually saw Zhan Ze. He had spotted them at that point and didn’t try to leave. Instead, he walked towards them with a smile.

Yet, there was no change in Qing’er’s expression. She looked rather angry and serious as she lay back down, feigning sleep.

Shizi greeted Zhan Ze first. He responded with a smile and a jovial tease, “What are you two doing here?”

“Oh, just enjoying the sun.” Shizi responded, then asked, “And you?”

“Just finished dinner, thought I would take a walk.”

“That’s good. It’s always healthy to move around after a meal.”

“Is it just you two here?”

Nodding, Shizi replied, “Yeah, just us. Who else did you expect?”

“No one, I was just asking.”

Yu Qing, still lying on the ground, seemed listless. She wasn’t particularly pleased to see Zhan Ze. His arrival confirmed Shizi’s information; they were merely enjoying the sun. But they felt like they had been caught in an embarrassing situation. She felt rather upset.

It was only after a nudge from Shizi that Yu Qing greeted Zhan Ze. However, she would have preferred not to. She felt a little suffocated and pretended to go back to sleep.

Shizi started the conversation. “Brother Zhan Ze, I heard you’ve been training hard for the martial arts competition.”

“Yes, it’s fast approaching. Might as well fine-tune my skills,” Zhan Ze responded, sitting down on a piece of grassland nearby.

“You’re very good, surely you’ll perform better than me.”

“And you? How’s your training? ”

Upon hearing this, Zhan Ze chuckled.
