Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 390: The Bigger Problem
The moment that thought entered my mind, I quickly killed it and pushed it out of my mind as if extinguishing a small flame before it would spread and engulf everything. I told myself that it wouldn’t have to come to that and that we could find another way to figure things out.
“Does it matter? Why does it have to matter?” Diana asked, and her tone was cold.
My sister’s response quickly snapped me out of my thoughts and back to reality. I narrowed my eyes at her as my irritation started to take over.
“It does matter! Have you completely lost your mind? He’s our teacher,” I reminded her as I started to truly lose my head over what my sister had confessed to me.
Had I known that the person she had been dating was one of our teachers, I would have definitely stopped her. That was probably the reason why Diana decided to keep it a secret, even from me. In reality, I had my own doubts about whether or not I could have persuaded my sister not to pursue her taboo relationship with Mr. Malton, but at least I could have tried. I glared at my sister, but she never provided me with any kind of explanation. For a moment, I wasn’t sure whether Diana even regretted her actions at all. If she ever regretted her decision, it was probably only because someone had found out about her secret—someone other than me.
“I thought there was a rule among the fan club members not to get involved with Mr. Malton...” I said, although it probably no longer mattered.
“Why does it matter? It’s not like I’m part of his fan club or anything. How ridiculous is that, anyway?” Diana asked before rolling her eyes skyward.
“I’m not sure what is more ridiculous at this point. Those girls going crazy over him, or you, who actually acted on your feelings,” I muttered darkly.
“At least I’m brave enough to go after what I want,” Diana quickly argued back.
“So, why are you here to ask for my help? Did those girls find out or something?” I asked as I tried my best to get to the point. It was apparent that blaming my sister wasn’t going to help solve her problems or get her out of the mess she was in—a mess that clearly involved me too, in some way or another. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Slowly but surely, my sister nodded her head to confirm my suspicion. Her secret was out, and it was just a matter of time before this scandalous news would spread like wildfire. I didn’t even want to imagine what would happen, and I was certain that Diana was having a hard time processing the true implications and cost of her actions.
“Why go through so much and take on so much risk just for one man?” I snapped at her before letting out a loud sigh.
Diana went silent again, and I knew that although she had many things she wanted to say, she had already decided to hold her tongue. I clicked my tongue as many thoughts raced through my mind, all of them one problem after another. Mr. Malton was definitely an attractive man, but the fact that he was our teacher wasn’t the only problem within this entire equation, because there was an even bigger problem.
“He’s married,” I blurted before I could stop myself. My voice ended up coming out much louder than I had initially intended. It was very much common knowledge that Mr. Malton was already married, so there was no way that my sister wasn’t aware of that fact.
“I know,” Diana replied with an unreadable look on her face. Whatever my sister was feeling wasn’t exactly guilt or remorse for the actions that she had taken.
“You should have never gotten involved with him,” I muttered darkly, but I knew that those weren’t the words my sister was looking forward to hearing from me. Diana stared at me silently, as if waiting for me to offer her a solution. I had to admit that she was partially right, that my words were not the ones that would save us from the problem that we were facing.
“What do you want me to do? Who else knows about this?” I asked as I tried my best to keep my voice from trembling.
“Some of the girls found out...they saw us together...” my sister replied without any further explanation. Perhaps it was because there was no need for any more in-depth details. It was already bad enough that someone else had found out about her secret, and I was certain that her secret lover wasn’t about to take responsibility or help her find a way out. Diana definitely had more to lose, and I was certain that everybody was ready to take the blame out on my sister when, in fact, the man was just as equally guilty, if not more so, given his age and maturity in the situation.
“What should we do?” I muttered the question more to myself than to my sister.
“If only no one found out. Graduation is just around the corner; if only we could have held on a little longer,” my sister mumbled before biting down on her lower lip.
“Someone is bound to find out. There are no secrets in this world—or at least, I don’t think so. No matter how hard you try to hide it, someone is going to find out sooner or later. He’s married, Diana. Even if no one finds out and even if you graduate, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s married. He has a wife,” I lectured her, trying my best not to raise my voice in fear that someone might overhear our conversation.
“He promised me that he would leave her,” my sister retorted, but I could feel that even she wasn’t entirely convinced that her lover would keep his word.
“Well, he’s definitely a liar. Have you told him that the girls found out?” I asked.
Instead of replying to me in words, my sister simply shook her head.
