Chapter 976: Chapter 976 : Unmistakable Sound

*Bianca*

I lowered my phone from my ear once Leo hung up, biting my bottom lip fretfully. Leo was so good at keeping me calm but I couldn’t help but feel like this was way more dangerous than he was letting on.

I knew that he was trying to get me not to worry but his casual tone and the quick change of plans just made my nerves skyrocket. I had already been worrying about Amara spending the night at the party with Darion. Now I had two people to worry about.

My heart was pounding and I closed my eyes, breathing deeply and trying to calm myself. I grabbed one of my favorite books to try and distract myself but every few minutes, I found myself checking my phone to see if either Leo or Amara messaged me.

I jumped and my phone tumbled out of my hands when the front door opened. Taylor raised an eyebrow at me as he strode in with a couple of pizza boxes. “You alright?” he asked.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, bending down from the couch to snatch my phone off of the floor.

Taylor casually came over to set the boxes on the coffee table in front of me. “I texted and said we should have a movie night tonight to take your mind off things,” he said, showing me his phone.

I looked at the screen and I had indeed agreed to the suggestion. I even texted back “okay” when he said he was on the way with pizza. I only had a vague memory of answering it. I must be more worried than I thought.

My heart warmed as I looked at one of my best friend’s faces and at the food he brought. “Thanks,” I told him. “I really appreciate you trying to make me feel better.”

Taylor grinned. “Don’t get all mushy on me,” he teased. “It is also my job to protect you and that includes from yourself. Now, let’s just relax and have some fun, alright? I need a break too from watching out for your reckless ass.”

I laughed and nodded my head. Taylor really was a good friend.

I nibbled on a slice of pizza before setting my plate down and reaching for my phone again. Taylor was quick and grabbed my wrist before I could snatch the little device.

I glared at him and pulled my hand out of his. “What the hell Taylor!” I snapped.

Taylor wasn’t affected at all. He just narrowed his eyes at me like a strict school teacher. “You need to stop obsessing over Leo and Amara. They are going to be perfectly fine.”

I clenched my jaw. “How do you know that?” I demanded. “You didn’t hear Leo on the phone. He was trying to be calm for me but I could tell that this was pretty major.”

“He’s your fiance,” Taylor pointed out simply. “You should know better than anyone that he is extremely strong and capable. Have some faith in him.”

I wanted to snap at him that I had more faith in Leo than anyone else but closed my jaw and bent my head. It was true. I needed to be strong and just trust Leo to come home to me.

“Thanks,” I told Taylor. I smirked at him then. “When did you become so wise anyway?”

Taylor just rolled his eyes in answer. “And as for Amara,” he said before shaking his head. “I’ll admit that I’m a little worried about her too but as her friends, we need to let her make her own mistakes and just be there when she reaches out to us.”

I gave him an odd look. “Okay, now the infinite wisdom is getting a little creepy,” I told him teasingly. “Are you going to tell me you actually spent the last few years as a monk?”

Taylor just shook his head, looking like he was resisting another eye roll.

I did my best to just take Taylor’s advice and to my shock, I actually felt my body relax as I sank into the plush couch. We were watching an old action movie and I munched on my pizza happily as I snuggled into the soft blanket covering me.

Almost as soon as I was comfortable and actually had my mind on the movie, my phone vibrated. I blinked when I saw Amara’s name flash onto the screen and then immediately snatched it up to answer it.

“Bianca?” Amara slurred as soon as I answered the phone.

“Amara, are you alright?” I demanded quickly. “Where are you?”

Amara giggled. “I don’t know where I am,” she said but I could hear the party music in the back. “I feel funny...”

My heart dropped. She didn’t sound good.

“Hey, beautiful. Who are you talking to?”

I grinded my teeth together. That was Darion’s voice. It got louder and I heard Amara protest when the phone was taken from her. That was when the call dropped.

I looked down at the phone in dismay.

Taylor shot up straight and looked at me in concern. “What’s going on?” he asked urgently.

I felt anger and worry swirling inside of me and I jumped to my feet and grabbed my purse off of the coffee table. “We need to get to the party. Now.”

Taylor drove like a maniac to get to the party and for once, I didn’t tell him to slow down. The whole fifteen minute drive, I was mentally kicking myself for letting this happen. I just prayed that my best friend would be alright.

I looked up at the large mansion where the party was undoubtedly taking place. It looked like something out of a cliche college romance movie. The front yard was littered with beer cans and plastic cups. Music was blaring from the open door and windows, neon lights flashing out of the openings.

Taylor and I hurried into the house, dodging a couple of drunk guys who were stumbling out of the house laughing loudly.

Almost as soon as we stepped into the crazy house, Isabella came rushing toward us, her eyes wide with worry. “Bianca, thank goodness you’re here!”

I rushed to her and put my hands on her shoulders, squeezing comfortingly. “What’s wrong?” I asked, having a sinking feeling. “Where’s Amara?”

To my horror, Isabella’s eyes filled with tears. “I don’t know,” she choked out. “I lost sight of her after a huge crowd formed when Darion was passing out drinks and little pills to everyone.”

“Pills?” I echoed.

Isabella nodded and suddenly looked a little sick. I wondered if she had taken one of the pills too. I tugged on her arm gently and passed her to Taylor. “Take her outside so she can get some air,” I ordered. I turned toward the stairs. “I’m going to find Amara.”

Taylor nodded seriously and we split up. I practically sprinted up the stairs and started pushing bedroom doors open in search of Amara. I slammed the door shut on some couple making out heavily.

I got to the last door at the end of the hall and threw it open.

My heart nearly flew into my throat when I recognized Amara, half-passed out with her head hanging over the side of the large bed. Some random guy was on top of her, his hand down the front of Amara’s dress.

“Get off of her!” I screamed, stomping over and shoving the guy as hard as I could. I pushed him so firmly that he fell off of the other side of the bed. He must have been really drunk as well.

“Bianca!” Amara said in surprise, lifting her head slightly and looking at me through half-glazed eyes.

I rushed over to her, my eyes raking over her. “I’m so sorry,” I murmured to her. “Let’s get you out of here.”

“You fucking bitch!”

I froze and turned to find the guy glaring at me, his fists clenched and his dark brown eyes flashing with rage. My temper flared. “Can’t you see that you were taking advantage of her?” I demanded.

“It is none of your business you little slut!” he roared, marching around the bed and getting in my face. “I’ll make you pay for getting in my way.”

“Hey, this is a party. Let’s try to get along.”

I turned my furious gaze on Darion, who was standing in the room with a little baggie full of pills. He held it up toward us. “This will take the edge off. You guys are sounding way too serious for this kind of setting.”

My temper flared and I stomped over to him. “What the fuck did you give her?” I screamed.

The bastard actually had the audacity to roll his eyes like I was being completely ridiculous. “You need to chill,” he said. He dangled the bag in front of me, shaking it a bit as if it was a bag full of coins and he was trying to entice me with them. “And I have just the thing to help a little stick in the mud like you do just that.”

I stared at him in disbelief at his callous behavior and before I could even process what my mind was planning to do, I raised my hand and smacked it hard against Darion’s cheek. There was a loud, satisfying slap that rang through the room and my eyes widened at what I had just done.

Darion’s head jerked to the side at the impact and then he went still, his hair covering his eyes. After a long second, he lifted a hand and wiped at the corner of his lip, checking for blood. There was none but he still looked absolutely livid when his eyes met mine, his jaw clenched hard. He stalked toward me and he looked so frightening that instead of holding my ground, I stumbled backwards several steps until my back hit the wall.

“You fucking prude,” he growled, towering over me and trapping me as he approached. “You’re going to regret that. All I was doing was trying to have a little fun.” He raised his hand to slap me and I squeezed my eyes shut, preparing for the pain.

Instead, a loud bang had both me and Darion jumping. He snapped our heads around to see Taylor standing in the doorway. His wide eyes took in the scene and then they narrowed murderously.

“Get away from her!” Taylor ordered, stepping more fully into the room.

Darion gave Taylor a look up and down. “I am so sick of everyone getting all up in my business,” he snapped. He gestured at me. “She disrespected me so she is going to pay dearly. Stay out of my way if you know what’s good for you.”

Taylor’s eyes blazed with fury and before I could even blink he was in front of Darion and threw a fist into his face. I winced at the unmistakable sound of Darion’s nose breaking.
